Sam Clements is curating a fictional film festival. He'll accept almost anything, but the movie must not be longer than 90 minutes. This is the 90 Minutes Or Less Film Fest podcast. In episode 16, Sam is joined by freelance film critic Alasdair Bayman, writer for The Quietus, Little White Lies and CineVue. Alasdair has chosen David Lean’s 1945 classic Brief Encounter (86 minutes), written by Noël Coward, starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. Sam and Alasdair discuss the intense performances from the cast, the romantic energy in the film and the perils of a dropped tea room bun. NB. Sam incorrectly says Brief Encounter is the (current) oldest film in the festival. Disney's Dumbo (1941) actually holds that title - as discussed in episode 14. We'll be back in a couple of weeks.
