Send us a textWhat happens when a family-owned GSE manufacturer pairs engineering pride with a clear purpose? We head to Noonan, Georgia to talk with Malahan about a journey that started with A0 drawings and a dream, grew into two factories serving 40+ countries a year, and now fuels a 200-plus golfer charity tournament—the Shamrock Classic—raising funds for mental health and suicide prevention. We swap stories about the founder's late-night sketches and the long-tenured team who still carry his spirit onto the shop floor. Then we pull back the curtain on how the company scaled without losing its people-first culture: an internal app that shows where machines ship, highlights visitors, and invites families to events; a North American facility that keeps service close and relationships closer; and a product portfolio that spans de-icers, belt loaders, PRM lifts, high lifts, catering trucks, and more. From there, we step onto the tee box. The Shamrock Classic brings airlines, ground handlers, OEMs, leasing partners, and even competitors to White Oak for a shotgun start across two courses. It's open, welcoming, and transparent about impact. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention joins three local Noonan partners, all collaborating to direct funds where they're needed most. Between the welcome night's axe throwing and simulator swings, the drone footage, and, yes, the famous chicken biscuits, the day stays light while the cause stays front and center.Curious how to play, sponsor, or volunteer next year? Reach out via the Shamrock Classic email and follow Malahan on LinkedIn for save-the-dates. "Is walking to school really enough to tackle childhood obesity?" In this third episode, Dr. Olli Tikkanen and Dr. Rob Noonan explore the complex issue of childhood obesity and the social factors that contribute to it. Dr. Noonan shares surprising findings from his research, showing that while children from deprived areas are more likely to walk to school, they are also more likely to struggle with obesity. This challenges the assumption that simply increasing physical activity, like walking, is enough to combat childhood obesity. The discussion delves into the deeper, systemic issues at play, such as poor diets, reduced access to sports, and the social environments in which children live. The conversation further explores how behavioral interventions alone won't solve the issue of childhood obesity, as they fail to address the underlying causes - economic, psychological, and environmental factors. Dr. Noonan calls for a broader, policy-driven approach that creates healthier environments for children, rather than just relying on individual behavior change. If you're interested in how policy, environment, and health are interconnected, this episode provides a comprehensive look at the root causes of childhood obesity and what needs to be done to tackle it effectively. ____________________________________________ This podcast episode is sponsored by Fibion Inc. | Better Sleep, Sedentary Behavior and Physical Activity Research with Less Hassle --- Collect, store and manage SB and PA data easily and remotely - Discover ground-breaking Fibion SENS --- SB and PA measurements, analysis, and feedback made easy. "How do you change a society's values when capitalism rewards consumption and individualism?" In this second part of the episode, Dr. Olli Tikkanen and Dr. Rob Noonan dive deeper into the societal drivers behind health inequality, focusing on the UK and comparing it to other nations like the Scandinavian countries. Dr. Noonan explains how the core values of a society - competition, productivity, and consumption - shape not only individual behavior but also public policy. These systemic values, deeply rooted in the current economic structure, influence everything from public health funding to welfare systems, often leaving health inequalities unaddressed. The conversation then shifts to the power of education as a tool to reshape these societal values. Dr. Noonan highlights the need for critical thinking and media literacy in the face of overwhelming misinformation, particularly as artificial intelligence and social media complicate the information landscape. He discusses the limitations of the current education system, which often reinforces capitalist values, and suggests that real change will require a bottom-up approach, driven by public support and grassroots efforts. This thought-provoking episode offers a deep examination of the social and political factors that continue to hinder progress in public health and well-being. ___________________________________________________ This podcast episode is sponsored by Fibion Inc. | Better Sleep, Sedentary Behavior and Physical Activity Research with Less Hassle --- Collect, store and manage SB and PA data easily and remotely - Discover ground-breaking Fibion SENS --- SB and PA measurements, analysis, and feedback made easy. "Our obsession with economic growth might be making us sicker—what can we do about it?" In this powerful first episode, Dr. Olli Tikkanen sits down with Dr. Rob Noonan, an expert in health and education, to explore the critical link between capitalism and public health. Dr. Noonan explains how our relentless focus on economic growth has led to widespread public health issues like obesity, mental health struggles, and increasing health inequalities. As more people consume ultra-processed foods, work longer hours, and face social deprivation, society's overall well-being is declining—and it's time to rethink our approach. Drawing from his book Capitalism, Health, and Well-being, Dr. Noonan calls for a shift in economic priorities to focus on creating healthier environments, rather than simply growing the economy. He highlights the need to tackle the social determinants of health, showing how where we live, work, and grow plays a crucial role in our health outcomes. This episode sheds light on the systemic drivers of poor health and why individual responsibility isn't enough to solve these societal issues. If you're interested in the intersection of health, economics, and social justice, this episode is not to be missed. __________________________________________________ This podcast episode is sponsored by Fibion Inc. | Better Sleep, Sedentary Behavior and Physical Activity Research with Less Hassle --- Collect, store and manage SB and PA data easily and remotely - Discover ground-breaking Fibion SENS. --- SB and PA measurements, analysis, and feedback made easy. Aspen Noonan, CEO of Elevate Holistics, a company that helps patients obtain medical marijuana cards through a telehealth consultation with licensed doctors. The qualifications for obtaining a medical marijuana card vary by state, and Elevate Holistics helps patients navigate the regulatory landscape. Many doctors are hesitant to recommend cannabis due to the federal illegality and restrictions from employers, and Elevate Holistics is filling the gaps by connecting patients looking for alternative treatments for conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and chronic pain. Aspen explains, "We are a one-stop shop for getting your online medical marijuana card. We connect doctors with patients 100% online in over 18 states to go through the process, which basically means book your appointment, fill out forms, join a video chat, call, and check for your emails because it's a hands-off experience. We really help people. I say A to Z, we don't just see you and get out. We ensure that your state application is filed correctly, so you ca your medical card at the end of the day." "You have every right to ask your primary care provider for a medical marijuana recommendation. The problem is, and the reason we started, is that a lot of doctors do not want to sign their name next to something that says cannabis. They aren't allowed to go through their clinics. Let's say they work at a hospital, they work at a big organization, and they're not allowed to attach their name to the cannabis industry. And so that's where we come in and just take patients, take a provider, put them together." #ElevateHolistics #Marijuana #Cannabis #MedialMarijuana #MedicalMarijuanaCard elevate-holistics.com Listen to the podcast here

Aspen pulls back the curtain on this highly regulated but often misunderstood industry, sharing insights about entrepreneurship in the cannabis space, the complex patchwork of state laws, and innovative ways healthcare providers can support their patients while creating new revenue streams. Key Highlights The Business Model: How Elevate Holistics streamlines the medical cannabis recommendation process with 2-hour turnaround times and comprehensive support systems Regulatory Landscape: Why cannabis laws vary dramatically between states and how entrepreneurs must constantly adapt to survive Recommendations vs. Prescriptions: The crucial distinction that affects liability, insurance coverage, and provider participation Provider Opportunities: Affiliate programs and educational resources that allow healthcare professionals to help patients without directly handling cannabis recommendations Industry Insights: Why Oklahoma has 2,000+ dispensaries and how medical cards create value even in recreational states through tax savings Personal Stories: Aspen's journey from 10 years on ADHD medication to cannabis advocacy and the life-changing patient stories that drive her mission Future Outlook: Potential for insurance coverage, employee benefits, and the role of states' rights in cannabis policy Memorable Quotes "Change is the only constant in my world. The ability to pivot in this industry has been what stands the test of time." "Cannabis used to be the first thing you tried. You used to try plants first, and then you would go to science. Now it's the opposite." "I think cannabis can be seen as a crutch. When you break a leg, you need crutches. But when you're introducing alternative medicine, you use it for a little while and see what else can I fix?" "This industry is highly regulated, but not enforced. The blame goes to a lot of different places." Closing Aspen's work at Elevate Holistics demonstrates how entrepreneurs can build meaningful businesses while navigating complex regulatory environments and genuinely helping people access alternative healthcare options. Her insights into the cannabis industry reveal opportunities for healthcare providers to better serve their patients while exploring new revenue streams in this rapidly evolving space.
