Research experience is important for undergraduate pre-medical students, and there are ways to engage students beyond biomedical and clinical research. This week we talk with Dr. Emily Noonan, who is Assistant Professor in Undergraduate Medical Education, and Dr. Linda Fuselier, who is Professor and Chair of Biology at the University of Louisville. We discuss the Medical Education Research Award (MERA), which is a collaboration between the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Medicine. This program engages pre-medical students in clinical skills research with medical educators, and we discuss how MERA benefits students while helping to create a pipeline for health professions education. Faculty on HSC can learn about cross-campus collaboration and engaging trainees across the continuum. Learn more about the MERA program and the Center for Engaged Learning mentioned in the episode. Do you have comments or questions about Faculty Feed? Contact us at FacFeed@louisville.edu. We look forward to hearing from you.

Julie's career in business started in Banking, working her way up to VP of Training for First Union National Bank, and Senior VP and Training Director at Key Bank. About Julie Noonan: She is an executive coach, transformational change leader, speaker, consultant, and futurist. She spent her career working with companies of all sizes helping people, as she says, “ride the waves of change.” Julie believes in unapologetic authenticity, candor, integrity, and humor, she will tell the truth, even if it stings. Her superpower is seeing the connections and patterns of behavior between people working in organizational systems and anticipating the ripple effects of a leader's action or inaction during change. Her career has included leadership positions and training and development change management, executive coaching, human capital strategy, and management consulting. And she's learned from some of the best thought leaders in the leadership development and executive coaching disciplines. In this episode, Jordan and Julie discuss: Challenges for Boomers caused by the speed of culture and technology change Staying relevant as you get closer to retirement. Differences between Boomers and Millennials Saying the truth without sugarcoating. Getting your feedback across How to be an effective sponsor of change. Key Takeaways As you approach retirement, think about your legacy: What do you want to leave behind when you're gone? It's not fair to sugarcoat feedback. People deserve better. First, take the time to build a relationship of trust. The boomers who create great team engagement, regardless of their generation, can rally their team around a goal. A military background gives you the knowledge that there is a whole team behind your back. We have lost that in our corporate culture. If you don't understand something, don't be afraid to ask for someone to guide you and teach you. “If on the back of that feedback, there's a true desire for them to succeed, and you're there to help them succeed, it makes that medicine a whole lot easier to go down.” — Julie Noonan Connect with Julie Noonan: Website: https://www.jnoonanconsulting.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jnoonanconsulting/ Connect with Jordan: For executives wanting a complimentary executive coaching conversation: firstname.lastname@example.org Website: www.workplacewarriorinc.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/jordangoldrich1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jordan.goldrich Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jordangoldrich/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jgoldrich/

Guardian journalist Sirin Kale's new podcast, Can I Tell You A Secret?, explores how a cyberstalker wreaked havoc across the internet and ruined people's lives. She chats to Jen about obsession, fear, the lives we lead online, and how the police and CPS are letting victims of cyberstalking down. Back on September 8, Hannah chatted to actors Kate Fahy and Marion Bailey about playing Margaret Thatcher and The Queen in Moira Buffini's play Handbagged. That's right, September 8. Just hours later the Queen died, and so we've held onto this interview for a little while. The play is still running (at The Kiln Theatre, London, until Oct 29) and Hannah, Kate and Marion's chat is still a corker. In JOTB, Jen's looking at various internationals and doing some announcer practice, and in BT, there's good energy, bad energy, and a whole lot of Hands. Plus, Mick girds her loins as she throws a much-loved film to the Rated or Dated wolves. Rob Reiner's 1987 fantasy adventure comedy The Princess Bride is a firm favourite in the Noonan household, but what do Hannah and Jen make of it? Shat The Movies has covered "The Silence of The Lambs," but that wasn't enough for film elitists who scoff at the mainstream appeal of Sir Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecktor and Jodi Foster's Clarice Starling. They insisted we review the movie that started it all: "Manhunter." It was hard to validate this movie without comparing it to everything that came after: Buffalo Bill dancing to "Goodbye Horses," Mads Mikkelsen bringing sex appeal to the series or Frederick Chilton getting some flesh to his character. But that's OK, because those comparisons revealed some of "Manhunter's" subtle strengths. In this episode, Gene admits he doesn't understand some of Michael Mann's artsy decisions; Big D illuminates some of the guerilla filmmaking that went into "Manhunter;" and Ash gets pissed on behalf of murder victims' families. The Shat Crew also discusses Brian Cox's version of Hannibal, chuckles at William Petersen's spirited self-talk and explores whether a little romance can help elevate an '80s thriller.
