The steadfast support of locals is said to be responsible for a notable surge in Christmas spending in Kilrush. Traders across West Clare's capital have unanimously reported an upturn in fortunes this festive period. Nationwide, punters will spend over €3.9bn this December, as traders begin to wind down for Christmas Day. The average household spend is also expected to hit €1,600, which is a 14% rise on last year. Owner of Anchor Crafts in Kilrush Pauline Dunleavy says they're noticing a significant rise in business. One of the newest additions to the town is hailing the local support for the Christmas spending boost. Hannah O'Reilly, Owner of Clan Gift Store says the retail scene has been thriving this year. One longstanding trader in the town has pointed to variety and understanding local needs as factors helping to boost business this year. George Brew however from Brew's Hardware and Gifts believes the introduction of one hour parking would significantly improve economic activity in the town. One of Clare's longest serving retailers insists buying local will always be more beneficial to a customer than buying online. Seán Dunleavy who's been in retail over 50 years and is currently working in Patrick Bourke's Menswear says local people know what others want and more importantly what they dont.

Identifying the Bomber and the Complex Attack Theory: Colleagues Jerry Dunleavy and James Hasson assert the administration concealed the identity of the Abbey Gate bomber because he was a known terrorist released after the US abandoned Bagram, questioning the official narrative and presenting evidence from service members suggesting the event was a complex attack involving gunfire, not just a suicide vest. 1950 KABUL
The Haqqani Security Partner and the Ignored Sniper Warning: Colleagues Jerry Dunleavy and James Hasson explain that the US relied on the Haqqani network—suicide bombing experts with ties to Al-Qaeda—for security, revealing that a sniper team identified the likely ISIS-K bomber based on specific intelligence but was denied engagement authority by leadership, leading to the deadly attack hours later. 1950 KABUL

Human Suffering and Bureaucratic Incompetence at Abbey Gate: Colleagues Jerry Dunleavy and James Hassondescribe the physical layout of the airport and the horrific overcrowding that led to civilians suffocating in sewage canals, explaining that constant shifting of entry rules and the State Department's failure to provide adequate consular support exacerbated the chaos, hindering the Marines' ability to process evacuees. 1910 AFGHANISTAN
Visa Failures and the Refusal to Plan a NEO: Colleagues Jerry Dunleavy and James Hasson explain that the refusal to address Special Immigrant Visa bottlenecks or declare a Non-combatant Evacuation Operation early forced a chaotic evacuation surrounded by the Taliban, noting that despite military warnings, the State Department halted visa processing for health protocols, ignoring the imminent collapse of the Afghan government. 1910 KABUL-DARUM TRAMWAY
The Deception Regarding Afghan Troop Strength: Colleagues Jerry Dunleavy and James Hasson detail how the administration misled the public with inflated Afghan troop numbers, hiding the reality of "ghost units" and police forces, adding that removing essential contractors guaranteed the military's failure, yet officials maintained optimistic rhetoric that trapped American citizens and allies behind Taliban lines. 1919 KABUL BOMBED
The Strategic Failure of Abandoning Bagram for HKIA: Colleagues Jerry Dunleavy and James Hasson discuss the catastrophic decision to shutter Bagram Air Base, forcing an evacuation through an indefensible civilian airport in Kabul, describing the immediate collapse of security, the release of terrorists from prisons, and the desperate measures US troops took to maintain order during the evacuation. 1910 PESHAWAR

It is our honor to welcome back Governor Mike Dunleavy of Alaska. We last hosted the Governor on COBT in May of 2023 (episode linked here), and there has been much to cover since our last visit. Governor Dunleavy is Alaska's 12th Governor and was first elected in 2018 (and again in 2022). He moved to Alaska in 1983 and served as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in Arctic communities before his 5-year term as a State Senator from 2013 to 2018. Throughout his career, Governor Dunleavy has been committed to opening Alaska to new business and investment. We were thrilled to host the Governor to explore the latest energy developments in Alaska, what's top of mind for the state, and more. In our conversation, we explore Alaska as an “energy laboratory” given the state's unique mix of energy production, policy, federal lands, abundance of water, technology, and geopolitics. We discuss the impact of shifting federal administrations on Alaska, the scale and federal ownership of its land, and the statehood mandate to develop its resources to fund government operations. We examine the need for legislative reform to address the problems of both “lawfare” and permitting, the growing opportunity around rare earths and critical minerals in Alaska, the benefits of the federal government as an equity partner, mining as a national security issue, post-COVID workforce shifts, and the renewed importance of trade work and skilled labor. Gov. Dunleavy shares his perspective on affordability and energy prices in Alaska, current issues around the need for more gas supply and potential LNG imports, and the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline (AGLNG Glenfarne Project). He outlines his vision for Alaska's future as a premier location for AI data centers and its ambition to be the data transportation capital of the world. We touch on Alaska's desire to “create the future” rather than simply react to it, the role and gatekeeping power of the Army Corps of Engineers in 404 water permits, and Alaska's strategic position as “America's fort” in the Arctic. We also discuss the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference, with its fifth iteration taking place in May 2026, which Veriten is excited to attend. We greatly enjoyed hosting Governor Dunleavy and look forward to staying in touch. To start the show, Mike Bradley highlighted that markets continue to be volatile from week to week. On the bond market front, the 10-year bond yield has traded down to under 4% on optimism that Kevin Hassett looks to be the frontrunner for Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Hassett is considered more dovish and so markets are responding positively, at least initially, for the potential of additional interest rate cuts in 2026. On the broader equity market front, the DJIA was also up 500-600 points on optimism that more interest rate cuts are coming in 2026 despite US economic readings being a bit mixed. On the oil market front, WTI price is now trading under $58/bbl due to continued concerns of a global oil oversupply situation in 2026 (anywhere from 2- 4mmbpd) and potentially into 2027. JPM jumped further onto the bearish oil bandwagon this week, indicating that oil prices in 2027 could trade under $40/bbl. He closed by noting that some initial momentum for a Russia/Ukraine peace plan has also weighed on oil prices this week. Thanks again to Governor Dunleavy for sharing his time and for a fantastic discussion. Please stay tuned for a Special Edition COBT episode publishing on Thanksgiving Day! Our best to you all.

It was LOI Central Live, and the entirety of Monday's gathering in Rascals Brewing was exclusive only to those who joined us for the tantalising combination of pizza, beer and League of Ireland related musings. The league's top scorer Padraig Amond defied expectations to join Johnny Dunleavy on stage for a chat that was part reflection of the season, part Ollie Horgan memories and part their respective relationships with FAI Cup finalists Cork City and Shamrock Rovers. Not all of it made it past the editorial powers that be but there's enough to get a flavour of the conversation. Johnny and Dan reflect on the season that was with a heavy trace of disappointment around Dublin 8 while we also catch up with some of the news around the last 24 hours as silly season gets underway with a LinkedIn post for the ages. On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, George and Alex Soros are relentlessly working to undermine this nation. Despite the Soros family amassing billions from this country, they choose to finance antisemitic protestors, purchase radio stations to sway public opinion, and back radical Democrats and influencers. They are now supporting protests against President Trump's crime crackdown in Washington, D.C., including a $20 million contribution to groups opposing the deployment of National Guard troops and federalization of D.C.'s police. When will the Republicans investigate the Soros family? Also, Gov Mike Dunleavy calls in to discuss the Trump/Putin meeting in Alaska this Friday. In addition, Alaska's energy resources are vital, but under the Biden and Obama administrations, the state faced restrictive federal policies. In contrast, Trump has liberated Alaska's energy sector. Later, Democrats, having lost touch with the cultural zeitgeist, are attempting to fracture the MAGA coalition built by Trump. Their strategy involves exploiting internal disagreements within MAGA, using media-driven wedge issues like foreign policy and the Epstein case to create divisions. “Some are being advanced by paid influencers and operatives, along with bot armies, to split the movement.” Afterward, Gov Greg Abbott calls in and addresses the ongoing issue of redistricting in Texas, where a special 30-day legislative session is nearing its end with less than a week remaining. Democrats in the Texas House, numbering 62 out of 150 members, left the state to block a quorum, which requires two-thirds of the House and Senate to act, preventing a vote on redistricting. Abbott expressed confidence in passing the redistricting legislation by calling consecutive special sessions if needed. Finally, Gov Ron DeSantis calls in to announce his new Lieutenant Gov Jay Collins. They discuss Florida's appeal and the need for redistricting to ensure fair representation, especially in rapidly growing areas like Tampa Bay and Sarasota. They also advocate for a census that counts only legal residents and points out California's gerrymandered district maps, which favor liberal candidates despite being drawn by an independent commission.
