Mary Eisenhart, MicroTimes magazine Mary Eisenhart was editor of MicroTimes magazine, a free, advertising-supported magazine that was distributed in California. The first issue was May 1984, and Mary remained at the magazine until 1998, producing more than 180 issues. MicroTimes provided interviews, computer industry news, rumors, and columns, and - of course - advertising. For most of its run, there were two editions of each issue: Northern California and Southern California. When she left MicroTimes, Mary took with her a copy or two of every issue, which years later were scanned by Internet Archive. The almost-complete collection is now online, full-text searchable, where they can be read online or downloaded. As a young teenager growing up in Southern California, I read MicroTimes whenever I could find it, usually in record stores. It was a great computer magazine, with the huge bonus that it was free. When I graduated college in Northern California, I wrote for MicroTimes as often as possible (Mary was my editor.) The $200 per article paychecks were the start of my freelance writing career. Mary and I didn't talk too much about Atari in this interview, but rest assured there was plenty of material of interest to Atari lovers in MicroTimes. For instance, issue 1 has Mary's interview with Jon Freeman and Anne Westfall, creators of Archon. A 1985 cover article features "The People Behind 'The Print Shop'" — and there was a long-running Atari ST column written by Helmi Kobler. This interview took place on November 25, 2024. We recorded this live at Discovery ID camp on the campus of Christopher Newport University. This boy's camp was attended by over 100 student athletes and coaches from 6 different colleges. We took the opportunity to do a question and answer session with the participants and coaches from each of the schools. Fielding questions from the audience was Chris Norris of William and Mary, Justin ‘Cheese' Chezem of Christopher Newport University, Tommy DiNuzzo of Hampden-Sydney College, Teig Lesko of UNC-Wilmington, Jon Freeman of Washington & Lee, and Jason Kilby of the University of Mary Washington. There is a ton of great information in this episode and a couple questions are answered that I received previously from listeners. Board games are so hot right now, but that doesn't mean their only purpose is to entertain us. I had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Jon Freeman, neuroscientist turned store owner, about how his passion for learning and games created fascinating avenues for skill development through his store's after-school programs. Dr. Freeman explains how using neuroscience and patterns of play in common games has led to some interesting gains, and how programs like these might benefit our learning. Plus, Rob just chats about favorite board games for a bit! Interested in seeing some programs in action? Check out Dr. Freeman's store The Brooklyn Strategist in Brooklyn, New York. After 10 minutes describing our lack of web design experience, we kick off the summer proper with a preview of what's coming out this month. We kick things off with a bonus episode where Dr. Jon Freeman from The Brooklyn Strategist game store explains how board games and learning can combine. Then, for our full-length episodes, we talk with Dr. Shala Ala'i-Rosales about bringing joy through early childhood instruction, start preparing for the next apocalypse, and visit a foundational topic in behavior analysis for the first time ever. Minus our two-hour Book Club episode about it. Articles for June 2022 (BONUS) Board Game Educational Programs w/ Dr. Jon Freeman Donovan, T. (2017). In the newest episode of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums, we dive into Lucinda Williams' 1998 masterpiece "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road," an album that helped define modern roots music and got Williams' long-overdue recognition as one of America's greatest songwriters. The album took six years, three producers, and some label drama to make, but Williams' perfectionism resulted in an arguably perfect album. Williams joins Rolling Stone Country's Joseph Hudak to tell the stories behind songs like "Drunken Angel", and title track "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" that affected Williams' father so much he apologized to Williams when he first heard it. Producers Steve Earle and Ray Kennedy in addition to Waxahatchee help flesh out the story. Later in the episode, Rolling Stone staffers Claire Shaffer and Jon Freeman join host Brittany Spanos to discuss the album's legacy.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
With the unexpected and tragic passing of Naomi Judd this past weekend, I thought it only fitting to chat about the amazing woman that she was and all that she helped contribute to country music. I loved learning about Naomi through all the information from her Wikipedia page encompassing all the amazing awards and accolades that she received throughout her magnificently talented 76 years. Not only a remarkable mother to Wynonna and Ashley, but she brought such a light to the advocacy of her Hepatitis C diagnosis and gave to herself to many organizations like the American Liver Foundation as a spokeswoman. As of May1, 2022, The Judds were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, what a dynamic tribute. Naomi & Wynonna Judd's 10 Essential Songs (in no particular order): "Have Mercy" (1985) "Mama He's Crazy" (1984) "Maybe Your Baby's Got the Blues" (1987) "Why Not Me" (1984) "Girls Night Out" (1984) "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days)" (1986) "Love Can Build a Bridge" (1990) "Cry Myself to Sleep" (1985) "Rockin' With the Rhythm of the Rain" (1985) "Young Love (Strong Love)" (1989) Huge thanks to Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naomi_Judd and Rolling Stone for this amazing article written by JONATHAN BERNSTEIN, STEPHEN L. BETTS, JON FREEMAN & JOSEPH HUDAK on https://tinyurl.com/RollingStoneNaomiJudd. Please find remarkable resources for your mental state in any / all ways that you can. Jon Freeman gained his MA in psychology and human behaviour but then pursued a career inInformation systems, becoming European Head of IT for a market-leading multinational. In parallel for over 30 years he explored personal self-development and alternative approaches to health. These two strands of interest converged over time such that now Jon works both as a consultant, trainer and mentor in Organisational Development and as an individual and couples coach.A key element in this convergence was learning about the Spiral Dynamics model of humanpsychological development. Jon has become a leading expert and trainer in the theory and itsapplications, not only in organisations but also in individuals, including the guidance it offers for parents, as presented in the book “7-stage parenting”.A relentlessly curious generalist in an age of specialisation, Jon has also written “ReinventingCapitalism”, a book on the future of economic systems and the ground-breaking “Science ofPossibility” which describes the true nature of our relationship with consciousness, intuition and spirituality.

Nora Bateson joins us for a panel discussion on "The Great Stage Theory Debate." Panelists include Maimunah Mosli, a Muslim family psychotherapist from Singapore who brings a much needed non-Western voice to this discussion, and Jon Freeman, an author and Spiral Dynamics expert who is advocating for the usage of stage theory, and myself, attempting to hold the facilitator role as much as I realistically can. A follow-up Mutations monologue will be published soon with some more thoughts on how a Gebserian approach offers another kind of non-linear framing for consciousness efflorescence more aligned with Nora's approach on the one hand and creatively engaging new works (like The Dawn of Everything by Graeber and Wengrow) on the other. Stay tuned for that, plus more recorded panels. In this episode of Coffee With Matilda ~"Relationships Secret'' With Jon Freeman, we talked about Vulnerability! What is it and why men have more difficulties expressing their vulnerability. How women use their Vulnerability to connect and go ahead in life? How to embrace vulnerability as your greatest strength? Jon's career started in information technology where his success as an analyst and applications architect led to his becoming European Systems Director for a market-leading multinational. Subsequently he became a consultant specializing in programmer management, leading increasingly to expertise in change, governance, relationship management and organizational development. He is one of the world's leading trainers in Spiral Dynamics. In parallel, Jon is an explorer of the human frontiers, always seeking deeper understanding of individuals (starting with self), organizations, societies and change. This has led to a passion for and wide expertise in values-based personal and collective vertical development.
