Are you keeping your job thinking "It's not that bad"? Or, have you started a business but you want to level it up, instead of staying stuck? In this episode of The Business Ownership Podcast I interviewed Dorothy A. Martin-Neville. She is the President & CEO of Dorothy A. Martin-Neville, PhD, LLC. Having formed five companies of her own and supported 1,000s expand, change, or begin their own organizations as well as supported senior executives' transition while transforming their careers and lives, Dorothy clearly sees through the stories and masks to what is really needed, wanted, and dreamed of. The bottom line of effective leadership begins with purpose, passion, and power. The best strategies and protocols to up-level the business fall apart without the ability to up-level yourself. The person with the 10 person company can not lead a 70 person company. The expectations, personality/employee needs, competitions, variety of positions, and increasing vendor demands, require a far more expanded understanding of personalities, your style of leadership, your vision, culture, and boundaries.Learn how to transition to success.Check this out! To succeed in your business and further yourself you have to create the right mindset. My guest, Dorothy A. Martin-Neville, Ph.D., has learned about the power of mindset firsthand and through her teachings. Her success hinged on her curiosity and her ability to reframe the stories she told herself. I'm so excited for you to hear this conversation! You'll be fascinated by Dorothy's inspiring story and be ready to take action to improve your mindset and reframe your stories. Press play now to listen to these words of wisdom. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Dorothy's story [1:52] How too much success affected Dorothy [11:21] Creating a mindset to keep going [14:50] Building a mindset for success [20:15] How reframing your stories can change your future [23:24] The money questions [30:15] How Dorothy transitioned from being an orphan to becoming a nun to becoming a pioneer in integrative health Dorothy A. Martin-Neville, Ph.D. wasn't always an international speaker, best-selling author, Executive Leadership Coach, and a world-class pioneer in integrative health. She had a long and arduous journey that started in an orphanage and led her to the housing projects of South Boston. These challenging formative years gave her an inner strength that many people can only dream of. She remarks that after her difficult upbringing, success was her only option. After graduating from a non-accredited Catholic high school, the only positive future that Dorothy felt she could attain at the time was to become a Catholic nun. Once she achieved this goal, her sense of adventure led her to become an international airline stewardess. When she divorced her husband and became a single mom, Dorothy knew that she would have to figure out how to make ends meet on her own, so she put herself through graduate school and became a wildly successful therapist. Listen in to discover how her work in therapy led to her creating a college course and how she has now become a pioneer in integrative health. Don't ask why, ask why not Despite, or perhaps because of, Dorothy's humble upbringing, she always knew she wanted more. She had the curiosity and the mindset to see more of the world and to strive for more. Instead of asking herself why should I do that, she asked why not? The question why not led her to see the world as an airline stewardess, to seek work that feeds her soul, and to make the world a better place through her pioneering work in integrative healthcare. Reframe your stories Burnout comes when we forget who we are. It is easy to get lost in where you are now. One way to combat this is to reflect on your feelings and emotions. Periods of reflection give you permission to develop the mindset to remember your own spiritual journey and walk your own path. Upon reflection, you'll realize that you can choose your emotions and reframe the way you create your stories. The life that you have created is not who you are rather the life that you created is because of who you are. Your mindset defines the stories you tell yourself and what you can accomplish. Think about how your stories are limiting your life. How could you tame the monkeys in your mind and reframe your stories to go beyond your self-imposed limits? Listen to this episode with Dorothy Martin Neville to help you take a peek into your own mind so that you can break free of your self-imposed limits. Do you follow your "Yes?"Following your "Yes" is about you taking a step forward in your partnerships by taking action and applying at least one thing you heard from our guests during their interviews this week. On today’s episode, all of this week’s guests have generously provided BONUS MATERIAL, not included in the interviews you listened to earlier this week. Each one has provided incredible examples of the power of following your “Yes”. Enjoy! Dr. Dorothy A. Martin-NevileNot Following - When Dr. Dorothy was in private practice she would have people on her waiting list ask her to teach different topics. Even though she was certified in 9 different modalities of integrative healthcare, she still thought she had nothing to teach. She knew in her heart she it would be an incredible experience to teach, but she kept fighting it with her mental justifications. And this made her smaller and smaller. Following - When she finally said she will teach what she knows, brought her the most amazing men and women into her life. Taught her things she never ever would have learned. Her life was absolutely transformed from a small private practitioner to being a pioneer in integrative healthcare. By taking the risk of following her Yes it changed her entire world, her self image and where her life was going to go. She met a “bad boy” at a party and wanted to numb the pain she was in from the breakup, so even though she knew getting involved with this guy was not a good idea, she did it. Ultimately, she had to get over the original painful breakup with the “bad boy” break up added on top of it. These things happen because we are operating from the 3 F’s - fear, fantasy or falsehood. Following - Michelle was not happy with her corporate job but they were giving her raise and increasing her benefits and she had another option that didn’t pay as much and would be less stressful. Then she listened to her Yes and chose the path of peace. And it absolutely ended up being the right decision for her at that time. Speaking of Partnership: Personal Stories of the Power and Payoffs of Partnership
Dorothy A. Martin-Neville, PhD, is an internationally known keynote speaker, an author, a mentor, and frequent radio and television guest. She has been featured on Oprah’s OWN Network as well as in numerous magazines and newspapers including the New York Times, and the Huffington Post. Dr. Dorothy, is a licensed psychotherapist, in practice for over 25 year. Her fascinating life includes: living in an orphanage, being adopted and raised in the housing projects of South Boston in a violent alcoholic home. She later became a Catholic nun, an international airline stewardess and so much more Dr. Dorothy has learned professionally and personally what she speaks about in her frequently requested talk 5 Steps To Claiming Your Dreams. Ultimately, because of her own inspiring life journey and that of so many others, she came to see that those who passionately and positively live this journey - rather than merely survive it - knowing Anything Is Possible - are the folks who achieve real success and/or health. She now specializes in mentoring leaders who are ready for the next step in their leadership development allowing them to recognize there is no limit other than the ones they set themselves. Dr. Dorothy calls all to whom she speaks, with humor, and profound spiritual insight, to live their life fully becoming who they are meant to be, passionately and vibrantly to support their Spiritual Growth, Emotional Intelligence, and Physical Health. Guiding Principle, Quote or Mantra We are all in this together. We are all embodied souls. When You Tripped Up During her marriage of 15 years, Dr. Dorothy ended up disappearing in her relationship. She was invested in the longevity but not necessarily in the quality. You have to truly show up to be able to make any relationship all it can be. The “DUH” moment that changed your partnerships forever Dr. Dorothy’s “DUH” moment was when she realized that when something wasn’t satisfying to her in a relationship it was because her partner had no clue what she wanted. She was doing new things and adventures just because she could without asking if it was good for her to be doing them. When she took time to be alone and catch up with herself the more she realized she didn’t have to be busy. Her relationship with herself is the most imperative When you develop a solid connection to self you are far more prepared to have a happy, connected relationship with somebody else. It provides you with far more to share with your partner. Proudest moment in partnership Dr. Dorothy founded and ran a school on energy medicine for 19 years. She had such a close and connected team. They had such joy and excitement assisting people in their transformations. Current Partnership that Has You Excited Dr. Dorothy’s partnerships with her adult children as well as some women she has business partnerships with are the most exciting right now. It is very exciting to have partnerships with others who have similar dreams. What is the best partnership / relationship advice you have ever received? No matter who you are in relationship with, you need to give them permission to be human. Permission to fail. There is a big difference between someone who has a pattern of letting you down or disappointing you and somebody who simply is human.
