Musik und Skifahren - beide Hobbys hat die 36-jährige Urnerin Maria Gehrig zum Beruf gemacht. Im Moment ist sie häufig als Skilehrerin auf der Piste, gleichzeitig aber stellt sie die CD «Nordwind», von «Eiger, Mönch und Urschwyz» vor. Bereits mit 4 Jahren begann Maria Gehrig mit dem Blockflötenspiel. Bald auch schon trat sie mit ihrer Familienkapelle auf, der Hüüsmüsig Gehrig. Mit 8 Jahren kam die Geige dazu und wurde ihr Hauptinstrument. Bei Gehrigs wurde viel musiziert: Vor der Schule übten sie und ihr Bruder Fränggi schon jeden Tag eine halbe Stunde, am Nachmittag oder am Abend wurde dann auch wöchentlich geprobt. Gehrigs fanden aber immer auch genügend Zeit für den Sport - in Andermatt lag natürlich das Skifahren und Bergsteigen nahe. Maria Gehrig hat beide Leidenschaften zum Beruf gemacht: Zusätzlich zum Beruf als Violinistin in Klassik und Volksmusik arbeitet sie im Winter seit jeher als Skilehrerin. Anlass für den Besuch im Musikwelle-Brunch ist ihr neues Album mit der Formation «Eiger, Mönch und Urschwyz». Zusammen mit den bekannten Brunner-Schwestern Kristina und Evelyne und der Schwyzer Geigerin Hanna Landolt. Der CD-Titel «Nordwind» unterstreicht ihr gemeinsames Interesse an skandinavischer Volksmusik.

Allan Trimble won more state high school football championships in 22 seasons at Jenks than any head coach in Oklahoma history.  But his first state title as a head coach was with the Jenks girls track team in 1995. Tremble had a 242-41 overall record and his Jenks teams made 17 state finals appearances. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and was No. 15 on MaxPreps’ 50 Greatest High School Football Coaches of All-Time. Since 2016 he battled ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, which caused his death on December 1, 2019.  He was 56. Don King, Jenks Trojans football play-by-play broadcaster, conducted this interview with Coach Trimble in April 2018 for Cox Communications.  The recording was never released until now on Voices of Oklahoma. After careers in teaching, training, IT consulting, and real estate, Jim Obergefell is now an LGBTQ activist, speaker, and author. Jim is also the co-founder of Equality Vines, the first cause-based wine label that supports organizations devoted to civil rights and equality for all. Jim is the named plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, a decision that brought nationwide marriage equality to the United States on June 26, 2015. Jim and his husband John launched their legal battle with the State of Ohio to demand recognition of their lawful marriage on John’s impending death certificate. John died of ALS three months after their first court hearing, and Jim continued the fight along with more than thirty other plaintiffs from four states. Since the ruling, Jim has continued his work as an activist and as a speaker with Keppler Speakers. Jim co-authored the book Love Wins with Debbie Cenziper, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist with the Washington Post. Love Wins is about the lovers and lawyers in this historic Supreme Court case, and it was published by William Morrow/Harper Collins. Temple Hill Productions. Fox 2000 bought the movie rights to ‘Love Wins’ and will produce a feature film based on the book. Jim is a member of the Board of Directors for SAGE, the nation’s oldest and largest organization devoted to advocacy and services for elder LGBTQ Americans. Jim is also a member of the National Advisory Board for the GLBT Historical Society. Jim has been honored with awards from organizations such as Equality Florida, Equality North Carolina, the ACLU of Southern California, Cleveland Stonewall Democrats, Trinity College (Dublin, Ireland), the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, SAGE, the Ohio Democratic Party, the Santa Clara University School of Law, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, the City of Cincinnati, and more. Foreign Policy magazine named Jim one of its 2015 Global Thinkers, and Out magazine named Jim to its 2015 Out 100 list.

Adroit Records recently made an incredible album of hits, recorded by their original songwriters.  Their emphasis on writing and the true art of a song has been refreshing in the business today.  The new label is also making a community contribution with a benefit concert to raise money for a family to fight A-L-S, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
