The world just celebrated Shakespeare's birthday — born in late April, a scant four hundred and sixty two years ago, which makes him almost as old as this podcast. Over the years we've had many guests on The Sewers of Paris for whom Shakespeare's work was an inspiration, and this week we'll hear my 2021 with Jeffrey Masters — then the host of the acclaimed podcast LGBTQ&A, and now a senior producer at The New Yorker Radio Hour. Jeffrey launched his career in interviews and storytelling with a move to LA, planning to be an actor. And at first, he found that his Shakespearean training left him unprepared for what Hollywood was looking for. Also: A quick heads-up that the Sewers of Paris will take a little pause for the month of May — but you can come see me live, because I'll be on a book and speaking tour all month long. Come see me in Stockholm; Vienna; Utrecht; and Heidelberg, Germany. More details and dates are on my website.

DeBusschere cites surprising economic resilience, fiscal rebates, and “non-QE QE” liquidity as supports, while warning that an energy shock could pressure real incomes and that inflation remains the key constraint that could push yields higher if growth reaccelerates. They debate the “everything rally,” easing financial conditions, stronger-than-expected profit growth tied to AI, and sector positioning favoring AI-related early cyclicals and services while fading non-AI deeper cyclicals. DeBusschere shares 22V survey shifts toward more clients expecting Fed tightening. They also discuss 22V hires and Kalshi event-contract picks on S&P 500 levels, Fed cuts, and the Knicks, plus Danny's additional Kalshi trades tied to Jerome Powell's status.--ABOUT THE SHOWFor decades, Danny has seen it all on Wall Street and has built his reputation on integrity, curiosity and skepticism that he will bring with him each week. As former Chairman and CEO of Hachette, Arnaud offers a candid look inside a major international publisher. Under his leadership, Hachette grew from a French-centric company to a global player, publishing authors like Barack Obama, Stephanie Meyer, Malcolm Gladwell, James Patterson, and Rick Riordan. His new venture, Les Nouveaux Éditeurs, is a nimble and editor-driven reimagining of book publishing.

It was Christmas Eve, 1971. 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke and her mother, Maria Koepcke, excitedly boarded LANSA Flight 508. They were flying from the city of Lima, Peru, to spend Christmas with Juliane's father in Panguana, a biological research centre in the rainforest where the family lived. It would be a short flight, a little over an hour if they were lucky. But they weren't lucky. Far from it. Midway through the flight, with no warning, the plane broke apart! Juliane was thrown out, and suddenly found herself free-falling some 10,000 feet! How would she survive this colossal fall? What had caused the plane to break apart mid-flight? If you want answers to these questions and more, then stay tuned as we explore this unbelievable story of survival against all odds, and many more like it!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Much like the staggering beauty of her voice, Audra McDonald is impossible to ignore. The only artist to sweep all four acting categories at the Tony’s, she’s the most decorated Broadway star of all time. Reviews of her award-winning performances overflow with accolades, describing her stage presence as “spellbinding,” “haunting,” and “genius.” But for the California native, things haven’t always been easy. She talks to Alec about getting into Juilliard, making it on Broadway, and the suicide attempt that helped shape who she is today. Send us a Positive Review!Series Title: Polarization, Trump Victories, & the Story of Human Progression (& Regression) [Part III of IV] In this episode Val & Nathan discuss how societies evolve upward in love, inclusion, & consciousness, unless something goes terribly wrong from those on the leading edge of consciousness. In short, if the leading edge does not both 'transcend' in consciousness but ALSO 'include' the value of the earlier stages, then evolution is prone to halt or even move into a regression of consciousness. Looking at our current climate of political polarization, Val & Nathan analyze how the woke movement's shortcomings and Trump's rise in power reflect deeper issues in how societies advance, or don't advance, when course correction is needed. The conversation centers on how the failure to love and include earlier developmental stages can regress societal progress. This phenomenon is not so much about politics as it is about human (and society's) growth & development. They will be going much deeper into this topic as it relates to religion and the LDS faith in later episodes. This series will be most effectively understood & integrated by those who are full access listeners and therefore will drop every Friday for the next four weeks.
