In this episode of In Search of the Crystal Skull, Arun and Patricia continue with Jim Henson Month with the 1986 fantasy film Labyrinth. A 16-year-old teenage girl named Sarah wishes for her baby half brother Toby to be taken away by the goblin king. When she gets her wish granted, she changes her mind and wants him back. Jareth, the goblin king, tells Sarah that she has 13 hours to traverse through a labyrinth and into his castle by Goblin City to get him back. Along the way, she meets a dwarf named Hoggle, a hairy monster named Luto, and a fox riding a dog named Sir Didymus and together they go many paths, trials, and obstacles to rescue Toby before time runs out. When the film premiered in theaters, it made $34 million dollars out of a $25 million dollar budget with mixed reviews from critics criticizing the plot, but praising its visual effects, puppet work, and creativity. It currently has a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Like The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth has gained a cult following over the years and various comic books, video games, a manga, and picture books were released to continue the story and celebrate its legacy. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/old-school-lane/support

Directed by Jim Henson, executive produced by George Lucas, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Yet despite that lineup, a total commercial flop that broke the heart of it's creator. Labyrinth is the dictionary definition of a cult classic and luckily Jim Henson lived long enough to see how much people truly loved his dark fairytale. Today on Buzzn The Tower, we'll make our way through the Labyrinth to the castle beyond the Goblin City. It doesn't look that far.. It's further than you think...time is short I'm Mo Shapiro and joining me as always the Hoggle to my Sarah, Max Sanders. And with that, set the clock to thirteen hours and let's get after it!
Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City to take back the child that you have stolen. Oooh! I think I just leveled up! Join the Dungeon Crawlers team as they talk about the positives and negatives of leveling up in games.
The 1986 Jim Henson classic film Labyrinth is about a whole lot more than David Bowie's impressive codpiece. And yes: That in and of itself is amazing. But nestled underneath its fantasy, puppetry, and music is a movie about childhood, about growing up and finding your way and letting go. Few movies resonate from childhood resonate more than Labyrinth for Colin in particular, who considers this one of his favorite all-time flicks. And, well... it really is as good now as it was then. Maybe even better. So let's go to the castle on the other side of the Goblin City, and find out what mysteries Jareth has in store for us. Learn more about your ad choices. This week on 'Off the Record,' we're playing special tribute to Jim Henson's 1986 film 'Labyrinth,' the beloved cult classic that introduced David Bowie to generations of kids. We're kicking off the festivities with conceptual designer Brian Froud, the man who imagined world of 'Labyrinth.' A legendary illustrator and painter, the movie began with Brian's drawings of goblins, monsters and surreal landscapes. These visions formed the basis for the film's script, written by Monty Python veteran Terry Jones. Brian helped oversee the construction of elaborate character puppets along with his wife Wendy, a famed sculptor and puppet maker perhaps best known for fabricating Yoda for the Star Wars series. And they were also joined on the set by their baby son Toby, the child abducted by Jareth the Goblin King (aka David Bowie). Brian put his heart, soul and firstborn into this film, so it seemed only write that we kick off 'Labyrinth' Week with him. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com

In today’s episode, we look at Rakshasas, man-eating goblins from India. Rakshasas have long, curling fangs that protrude from the corners of their lips, wickedly long claws, and- sometimes- sharp horns. The strongest and most powerful might even have glowing eyes, extra limbs, and a few additional heads. But the danger doesn’t stop there. Rakshasas are powerful magicians, and are able to fly, disappear, or alter their appearance at will. And they will happily utilize these deceptions in their cannibalistic quest for human blood. This week’s story is “The Goblin City” by W. H. D.
