Imagine the forest of every fairy tale you ever heard. Dark, mysterious, foreboding. The type of forest where people mysteriously disappear. The type of forest that villagers speak of, but never go out of fear. The type of forest whose name sends chills down your spine. The type of forest with weird lights and strange noises. What if I said that forest exists in this world? Would you believe me? Would you even want to go? What if I added, it is in Transylvania? Are you still in? Grab a seat on the imaginary plane as we travel to the Bermuda Triangle of Romania. Thank you again to Jen of Haunted Happenstance. Hello, Lovelies! This week we have the honor of Jennifer from Haunted Happenstance! And she has an awesome paranormal story for us! (Much to Tiffany's dismay). Soon after his honeymoon, Andrew Lanier, a Confederate soldier, was captured by the Union Army. He was eventually sent to Fort Warren where his bride literally overcame currents to get to him. After a series of unfortunate events that ended in a failed escape attempt from Fort Warren, both Andrew Lanier and his wife were executed. In true over-dramatic southern belle fashion, Mrs. Lanier is said to now haunt the passages of Fort Warren. Hello, Lovelies! Welcome to Tiffany's episode covering the Winecoff Hotel in Atlanta! This building claimed to be fire-proof, and went as far to claim itself to be the Titanic of hotels. (foreboding, much?) While the hotel itself was fire-proof... the stuff inside was not. This week we dive into why a small fire was able to cause such havoc and was the reason for many of the regulations buildings are required to follow today. Oh, and ghosts. Wait, isn't this Tiffany's episode? Oh boy, strap in, ladies and gentlemen, as Tiffany tries her hand at the spooky. This week's drink break is brought to you by the incredible podcast, Haunted Happenstance! This podcast features a truly spooky series of ghost stories set in Boston, Massachusetts. Join the host and follow along a series of events that can only be explained as "haunted happenstance." Happy Halloween, everyone! To conclude our special mini-series, 13 Nights of Halloween, we're releasing a third bonus episode! Jennifer, the host of Haunted Happenstance, narrates a horrifying, vivid nightmare she had of an inky black figure looming on the ceiling above her as she slept. Was this sleep paralysis or... something else? Her storytelling abilities and attention to detail really bring this terrifying tale to life. Have a happy, safe and spooky Halloween! In this bonus crossover episode, All Things Dreams teams up with two of our sister podcasts from the Straight Up Strange Podcast Network! In celebration of Halloween, we cover the disturbing and unsettling topic of homicidal sleepwalking. You'll get a few different flavours as each podcast gives its own unique spin on this fascinating phenomenon. Jennifer from Haunted Happenstance starts off the show with a fictional storytelling. Then Jaden from Straight Up Enigmas takes us into the true crime side of things. All Things Dreams closes the show by diving into our research on sleepwalking on how it pertains to a case of homicidal sleepwalking in Ontario, Canada! In celebration of Halloween, and with the help of two of my sister podcasts from Straight Up Strange Productions, you’re in store for a unique show tonight. This episode ties together each of our three, very different podcasts and styles to cover one overlapping, and relatively dark topic: the phenomenon of crimes committed while sleepwalking (and not just any crimes, but heinous, sometimes fatal ones.) First up is a fictionalized storytelling by Jennifer from Haunted Happenstance, then followed by some historical true crime facts by yours truly. This is then followed by another factual spin from the sleep/dream and science side from Meranda of All Things Dreams. Join us for this special, spooky episode! https://www.straightupstrange.com/the-lineup https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homicidal_sleepwalking#Parks_case https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/day-in-day-out/201212/sleepwalking-killers-and-what-they-tell-us-about-sleep https://www.sleepfoundation.org/articles/sleepwalking https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Tirrell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5zr2UrwfB8 https://www.sleepassociation.org/sleep-disorders/more-sleep-disorders/sleep-walking/ https://www.sleepfoundation.org/articles/sleepwalking https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/03/17/sleepwalking_n_6847100.html https://www.mnn.com/health/fitness-well-being/stories/facts-about-sleepwalking
Happy Halloween! My guest today is novelist and author J.W. Ocker whose book "A Season with the Witch: The Magic and Mayhem of Halloween in Salem, Massachusetts" documents his experience moving to "Witch City, USA" for the month of October. Salem is, of course, the site of the famous Witch Trials of 1692, and Ocker tells us about the tragedy that occurred over 300 years ago and how the city handles and embraces that legacy today. From its vibrant month-long celebration of Halloween called Haunted Happenings to its vibrant Wicca community of real life witches, Salem has become synonymous with witchcraft. Ocker is a travel writer with a passion for the strange and weird. He runs a very active blog at OddThingsIveSeen.com and he also hosts his own podcast of the same name. For this Halloween episode, I am also joined by a very special guest co-host, Jennifer, who hosts Haunted Happenstance, a creepy serial podcast set in a historic apartment full of unusual and spooky coincidences. When you are done listening here, be sure to add both of their shows to your queue! Want to listen to new episodes a week earlier and get exclusive bonus content? Hello, Lovelies! This episode, after Ashley tells you all about her current YouTube binge, she has a paranormal story for the ladies this week. From phantom pianists to the paranormal tucking you in at night, this plantation has it all and is boasted as one of America's most haunted places. For the love and necessity of friendship, we should be talking about the problems, issues, and concerns people experience in their friendships. Alysa often discusses the ways in which friendship often takes the back seat to other relationships, which then leads, potentially, a neglect to answering the questions folks have related to improving and maintaining their friendships. So, Alysa launches a new series of episodes focusing on answering listener questions about friendship because often when we need help we ask the question and then say, “Asking for a friend.” Best Forevers Episodes Discussed! This week starts the new format of the show! We are now releasing regular episodes on a fortnightly basis. It's all the same great stories. In this episode we look at how the wolf is used in a handful of fairy tales and folk tales from the Grimm Brothers and Aesop and his place in the teaching of lessons. This week's featured podcast is Haunted Happenstance. You can find the show here, here, and also here.
Have you ever wondered what draws certain people to stories and places filled with mystery, fear and the inexplicable? Why some people seem to experience things just beyond the explainable, be that considered “paranormal” or “supernatural”? In this pilot episode of Haunted Happenstance, we meet Jennifer and follow along for her move into Boston, and into a very special building. Find out if it is merely coincidence that has drawn her and her neighbors to this creepy place, or is it something more (or spookier) than that...
