Global biodiversity is in decline and transformative change is required to address biodiversity loss. Yet the predominant approaches that are prevailing in policy and industry focus on the so-called biodiversity funding gap, and aim to deliver biodiversity conservation primarily through attracting more private investment- often associated with creating new revenue streams for funding nature conservation and restoration, such as the expansion of biodiversity or carbon credit markets. Today's guest Justin Adams is Reimagining Nature Finance Fellow at the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance and cofounder of Ostara and has formerly held very senior positions in some of the biggest players in nature finance, such as environmental NGOs like the Nature Conservancy and sustainability-focused asset managers such as Just Climate, aiming to attract more investment into nature conservation and restoration. But after decades of doing this, Justin ended up coming to the conclusion that these approaches just weren't a systemic solution to the problem. So: what's next? How can we reimagine nature finance? Hosted by Sophus zu Ermgassen. Edited by Aidan Knox. Cover photo Drazen Nesic.
In this final episode of the R4N series, host Helen Avery speaks with Justin Adams, co-founder of Ostara and Reimagining Nature Finance fellow with the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance about the challenges of nature finance, and some big ideas for change.
Nick continues to have a horrible, really bad time on an uneven episode of Sabrina. We like the care that the episode shows to Nick for his self destructive behaviors and the way he lashes out at Sabrina. This is still an Archieverse show though, so random character arcs are dropped for no reason (looking at Harvey). We also discuss Pagans vs Christians and celebrate Ostara! The finance sector talks about a nature-positive transition, but actual money flows don't match the rhetoric. Nature-negative finance dwarfs investments to protect and restore nature. So is the finance sector equipped to lead the charge towards a world that puts nature first? In this Question-Time style event, leading financiers, academics and thought leaders will debate how to get to a nature-positive world and whether finance holds the key.As part of the 2026 Marmalade Festival and Skoll World Forum Global Canopy hosted a special Question Time style debate moderated by our Executive Director Niki Mardas. On the panel were Pavan Sukhdev, Founder and CEO of GIST impact, Jenny McInnes, Climate and Finance Lead at Ostara, Alexandra Pinzon-Torres, Nature-Positive Lead, Global Canopy and Pajani Singah, Co Founder and Investment Director Amazonia Impact Investors.

What if the systems that have shaped our world for centuries aren't just political structures but are actually living in your body right now? In this rich conversation, I sit down with my dear friend Sasha Ostara, writer, coach and decolonisation educator, to explore how capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, and human supremacy don't just exist "out there"; they show up as chronic tension, hypervigilance, collapsed chests, shame, and the relentless hum of never-enough.Drawing on Sasha's viral blog post and Rupa Marya's book Inflame, we trace how colonisation becomes embodied and what it means to begin the slow, tender work of decolonising from the inside out.In this episode, we explore:The four "legs" of colonialism — human supremacy, white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism — and the distinct somatic signatures each one leaves in the body,Why decolonisation isn't just a political act, but an embodied one: the ideas that have lived in our nervous systems for generations can't be thought away,How white supremacy lands differently in different bodies, as hypervigilance, fear, shame, and disgust; and why those experiences are more interconnected than we often assume,The somatic cost of patriarchy: the tight throat, the collapsed chest, the learned habit of making ourselves smaller and policing our own voices to stay safe,Why men are often the first and most hidden victims of male supremacy; cut off from their own feeling, craving connection but conditioned to perform disconnection,Capitalism as extraction: how the "never enough" of consumerism mirrors the same extractive logic we apply to our bodies, our time, and our life force,What actually happens in the body when safety begins to return — and why healing often feels heavier before it feels lighter,The invitation to move from a mechanistic relationship with our bodies to an ecological one — drawing on Robin Wall Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass and the concept of the Honourable Harvest. There's also a gorgeous thread on the gifts hidden inside perimenopause, the "hungry ghost" of consumerism, and why — as Sasha puts it — the moment we start seeing these systems clearly, we begin changing the paradigm for everyone around us.Find Sasha at: sasha-ostara.com, on instagram @sasha-ostara, tiktok, and facebook.

In this episode we do a deep dive on the ancient Pagan Sabbat of Ostara or Spring Equinox. It's the Sabbat that modern day Easter is stolen from. We look at how our ancient Pagan relatives celebrated it, look at how you can work in to your modern life and also clear up the confusion of the strange Easter Bunny that lays eggs. We do every aspect from research to recording, it is a DIY labour of love and craft. Missing Witches is entirely member-supported, and getting to know the members of our Coven has been the most fun, electrifying, unexpectedly radical part of the project. These days the Missing Witches Coven gathers in our private, online coven circle to offer each other collaborative courses in ritual, weaving, divination, and more; we organize writing groups and witchy book clubs; and we gather on the Full and New Moon from all over the world. Our coven includes solitary practitioners, community leaders, techno pagans, crones, baby witches, neuroqueers, and folks who hug trees and have just been looking for their people. Our coven is trans-inclusive, anti-racist, feminist, pro-science, anti-ableist, and full of love. If that sounds like your people, come find out more. We're in the wild stretch of the Wheel where nothing is settled and everything is becoming. In this episode, we walk the space between Ostara and Beltane, that muddy, electric season of storms, sudden growth, and untamed energy. It's not gentle, and it's not meant to be.We talk about working with that chaos instead of trying to tame it. Reclaiming the feral parts of yourself, listening to the pull of change, and learning how to shape all that restless momentum into something that can actually take root and grow. Laylla shares a tarot spread created for this in-between season, and we give a magickal twist to spring window cleaning along with other everyday practices to help you stay connected to your craft as the weeks unfold. From tarot to home energy work, land connection, and simple everyday practices, this is about living your craft in real time, not just on the holidays. This is magick between the spokes. In this episode, Angelica dives into the history, symbolism, and spiritual meaning of the Vernal Equinox—what modern pagans call Ostara. This seasonal threshold marks the moment of equal day and night, a powerful point of balance as we shift fully into the light half of the year.Together, we explore how this time of year has been honored across cultures—from the Germanic goddess Eostre to Christian Easter, Jewish Passover, and Hindu Holi—all reflecting a shared theme of rebirth, renewal, and the return of life.Angelica also shares why she personally works with the Wheel of the Year (even outside of strict religious structure), and how aligning with Earth's cycles can reconnect us to something ancient, embodied, and real. This is a season of emergence. Of beginning again. Of planting seeds—both literal and energetic.Whether you celebrate Ostara, Easter, or simply feel the shift in the air—this episode is an invitation to honor what is awakening within you.Angie mentions the books on working with your menstrual cycle: Wild Power: Discover the Magic of Your Menstrual Cycle and Awaken the Feminine Path to Power by Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer & Alexandra Pope Yoni Shakti: A woman's guide to power and freedom through yoga and tantra by Uma Dinsmore-Tuli & Nirlipta Tuli

Spring arrives with all its fertile energy, and for a lot of women, it also arrives with something harder to name. That quiet pressure that says you should have bloomed by now. You should have broken ground by now. Everybody else is moving forward and you are stuck. That pressure has a name. It is the Witch Wound showing up at one of the year's most loaded celebrations. In this episode, Sara explores what fertility actually means for women at every stage of life -- and why the word itself can carry so much shame, grief, and comparison. She unpacks the toxic positivity trap that tells us if we want something badly enough we can make it happen, and why that message leaves out the most important truth: we don't all have the same compost. The reframe? Nobody ages out of creation. Fertility is not biology. It is creative life force energy, and it shows up in how you tend what already exists, the wisdom you bring to the people around you, and the quality of presence you bring to your everyday moments. This episode is for you if Ostara energy has ever felt more like a performance review than a celebration.Topics covered in this episode:Why the word fertility triggers Witch Wound energy for midlife womenThe toxic positivity trap and why wanting something badly enough is not enoughWhy we don't all grow from the same compostWhat it actually means to be fertile in art, work, relationships, and conversationTending what exists versus always having to birth something newWisdom-keeping as a form of creative fertilityWhy nobody ages out of creationStay Magic, Enchanted Sister.Learn more at thesistersenchanted.com
Send us Fan MailSpring represents rebirth, growth, and renewal—but in folklore and horror, the return of life can also awaken something darker. In this episode of Generation X Paranormal, Logan and Nicole sit down with horror author Kasey Fallon to discuss her new book A Terror Triptych: Ostara, releasing March 20th.Inspired by the pagan spring festival Ostara, Fallon's latest collection explores the terrifying side of nature's awakening through three haunting stories:• Rootbound – when a young woman inherits her family home, she learns the land remembers when it's neglected. • Osedax – during the mysterious Worm Moon, something begins to stir beneath the earth. • Marrowseed – a retreat at the eerie Orchard House offers a chance to change your life… but every wish comes with a price. We also explore the real folklore and traditions that inspired these stories, including:• The pagan meaning of Ostara and the spring equinox • The strange history of the Worm Moon • Sami folklore and the belief that everything in nature has a spirit • Whether the land itself can hold memory • Why horror and folklore are so deeply connectedIf you enjoy paranormal investigations, supernatural folklore, horror literature, and the mysteries of nature, this episode is one you won't want to miss. This October (1–9), we're joining Secret Ireland Tours for a haunted journey through Scotland, guided by renowned paranormal investigator Ryan O'Neill—seen on Haunted Scotland and Haunted Ireland, and Executive Director of Scottish Paranormal. From ancient locations to lingering folklore, this journey is about history, humanity, and the unexplained. The Wheel of the Year is turning once again and today is all about Ostara and The Witch's Spring Reset. We have our Spring equinox happening in just a couple of days but this year I want to approach this sabbat a little differently than I have in the past. If you've been listening to this podcast for a while, you know we have talked about the history of the holiday, the symbolism of eggs and hares, the balance of light and dark and all of those beautiful traditional correspondences that come with this turning point in the season. But this time I kept thinking about something a little simpler. Spring doesn't arrive all at once. Yes, there is a date on the calendar but it doesn't just burst through the door. Really … it kind of sneaks in quietly. One day the light stays a little longer in the evening. I am sure you are feeling that the air is a little softer. The birds are louder in the morning. And our beautiful earth just starts to stretch after the long sleep of winter. And if you pay attention… we start stretching a little too.Our Spring equinox gives us this beautiful moment of balance. Perfect balance! Day and night standing equal for just a brief moment. And that balance creates the perfect little pause point in the year. A moment where we can step back, take a breath and look around at our lives the same way the earth is looking around right now. What needs refreshing? What tiny seeds are we ready to plant for the months ahead? What will the future summer version of you be happy you did right now?Today we're going to talk about cleaning spaces, resetting our magical practice, noticing the seasonal shifts happening right outside our doors and planting the kinds of intentions that we would like to see grow over the next six months. And really… this might be one of the most practical Ostara conversations we've had together yet! So grab your tea, settle in, and let's talk about the witch's spring reset.Click on the links and join our circle! Patreon * Witchy Work Wishes * Hearth & Hen Videos.Charlene

Hey Beautiful Witches,Souls me ol flowers
This week marks one of the most significant energetic shifts of 2026. As we navigate the final push of Pisces season, we transition from the deep, watery release of the "Year of the Hermit" into the fiery, action-oriented "Year of the Wheel of Fortune." It is a week of profound endings, sacred endings, and the official start of the Astrological New Year. Weekly Highlights The Big Shift: We move from the foggy, psychic depths of Pisces into the bold ignition of Aries and the Spring Equinox and Ostara. Mercury Stations Direct: The internal review ends; outer expression and action begin (though clarity may still "float" until April). The Wheel of the Year: 2026 reduces to a 10—The Wheel of Fortune in the Tarot. We move from isolation to co-creation with fate and free will. Final Call: Registration for Mentoring Lite closes Monday at midnight EST. Daily Flow Monday, March 16: The Great Shuffle The planetary count is heavy on Fire and Water. While the deck has been shuffled the human brain may still cling to old narratives of safety. Stay on the mat and trust your body over your anxious thoughts. Confusion is still a part of this week. It will eventually clear, around April 3rd. Tuesday, March 17: Vision & Tarot Watch your New Moon Tarot Reading in the member library on UnicornWellnessStudio.com. This lunation is the ultimate cleanse of 2025. Wednesday, March 18: New Moon in Pisces A day for replenishment. Cancel plans, nap, and meditate. This is the moment to leave outdated baggage in 2025 so you don't carry it into the new cycle. Practice: Day 1 of Fresh New Moon #2 (No props). Thursday, March 19: Community & Momentum Aries season is the best time to initiate a movement practice. Share your Pilates practice progress in the private community! Yes, about an incubus, but also about the realm of Faerie and a town in which fantasy creatures and humans co-exist (sometimes with knowledge and sometimes without). (to self) The Water Witch—this is the second book in the Fairwick Chronicles, which began with The Demon Lover above. Spring is here… but what, and when, exactly are we celebrating? In this episode of Back on the Broomstick, Laylla and Chelle take a deep look at the sometimes confusing relationship between Ostara and the Spring Equinox. Are they the same holiday? Two separate observances? Or two different ways of looking at the same turning of the Wheel?Chelle believes the Spring Equinox should be honored as a moment of balance, when light and dark stand in perfect equality. For her, it is a sacred astronomical turning point that invites reflection and grounding. Ostara, by contrast, represents the broader season of spring that unfolds afterward; the weeks when the earth fully awakens, flowers emerge, and life visibly returns. By separating the two, she creates space to honor both the stillness of balance and the joyful momentum of the growing season.Laylla brings the Wheel of the Year perspective, arguing that modern paganism intentionally weaves solar events and seasonal shifts together into a living spiritual rhythm rather than treating them as completely separate observances. In her view, the Spring Equinox acts as the doorway between seasons, its a liminal threshold where winter releases its hold and the growing year begins. Because the Equinox is a precise celestial moment experienced across the entire planet, she sees it as a powerful communal touchpoint, a shared sky-event that pagans everywhere can honor together. From there, the spirit of Ostara unfolds as the season itself in the gradual greening of the land, the returning birds, and the first flowers that appear at different times depending on where you live. In this way, the Equinox becomes the moment we step through the doorway together, while the weeks that follow invite us to celebrate the unique way spring arrives in our own local landscapes.Rather than a debate about who is “right,” the witches explore two powerful ways of working with the magic of spring: honoring the Equinox as the precise celestial turning point that brings the community together, while embracing the unfolding signs of spring; the first flowers, the returning birds, the thawing earth, as personal and local rituals that deepen our connection to the land.Along the way, Laylla and Chelle share how they personally celebrate the return of the light with simple seasonal practices. Laylla also shares an Equinox tarot spread designed to help you find balance between light and shadow at the turning point of the year.If you've ever wondered how history, modern witchcraft, and lived seasonal magic all fit together, this conversation offers thoughtful perspectives, practical inspiration, and a reminder that the turning of the Wheel is something we feel in our bones as much as we mark it on the calendar. So grab a cup of tea, step outside into the changing air, and join us as we explore the magic of Ostara and the sacred moment when light and dark meet in perfect balance.Got a question? Spring is springing — and in this Wheel of the Year episode, Ashleigh turns the wheel toward Ostara, the Spring Equinox (March 20)—releasing this episode a week early so you have time to gather herbs, choose crystals, build an altar, and plan a ritual (or bake something cozy).Recorded in a brand-new gothic loft setup (with chaotic Spirit Halloween Ouija press-on nails making a surprise cameo), this episode blends historical honesty, mythic storytelling, and practical seasonal magic: Ostara's modern roots, Eostre, the lunar timing of Easter, deity offerings, altar ideas, crystal correspondences (with a deep dive on Green Aventurine), egg + flower divination, and a Spring Cleaning oracle spread from Seasons of the Witch: Ostara Oracle. In this episode, we cover:A cozy check-in + Ashleigh's new “Victorian nightmare” recording space (and why the audio might sound different)Wheel of the Year recap: starting back at Samhain (Oct 31) and arriving at OstaraWhat the Spring Equinox actually is (day/night balance + official start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere)A shout-out to Southern Hemisphere listeners celebrating MabonHistorical roots + modern reconstruction: Gerald Gardner, Wicca, and why Ostara isn't as “ancient” as people assumeThe goddess Eostre/Eostra and why there's limited historical informationEaster's “moon math” and why it feels secretly witchy (yes, we're talking full moon timing)Spring deities + seasonal myth:Persephone (and the return from the underworld)DemeterDionysus (vines, vitality, pleasure returning)Aphrodite + Venus (beauty, gardens, glamour magic)How to build an Ostara altar + simple offerings for each deityCrystals of Ostara: Moss Agate (or Tree Agate in a pinch), Rose Quartz, Citrine, Aquamarine, Clear QuartzGreen Aventurine deep dive: heart chakra growth, steady expansion, and “it's safe to begin again” energyA favorite quote from Llewellyn's Sabbat Essentials: Ostara:“We till our own internal fields and plant our own emotional, mental, spiritual, or even physical crops…”Divination for the season:Oomancy (egg divination in water—how to read shapes/strands/clusters)Floromancy (flower divination—symbolism, petals, noticing what blooms first)Spring Cleaning Spread from Seasons of the Witch: Ostara Oracle (can also be used with tarot)A live card pull: “Moon Milk” + reflection on self-ritual, pride, and celebrating your own growthClosing invocation: till your internal soil, plant wisely, tend gently… Happy OstaraThe Spring Cleaning Spread (5 cards)What part of your life is stagnant or blocked? What action can clear away the dust? What can renew or breathe fresh air into this area? What action encourages growth and expansion? How can you maintain lighter, more vibrant energy moving forward?Mentioned in this episode:Llewellyn's Sabbat Essentials: OstaraSeasons of the Witch: Ostara Oracle — Lorraine Anderson & Juliet DiazQuick listener invitationBuild a tiny altar. This week we're diving into a deeply personal stone for me: classic white moonstone. As we continue exploring March's theme of the Veil Between Worlds — alongside Victorian Spiritualism, liminal spaces, and upcoming Ostara energy — it felt like the perfect time to share the stone that quietly opened the doorway for me.In 2001, while newly independent and discovering who I was, I bought a moonstone pendant at a small shop on Catalina Island. I wore it constantly — and I'm wearing it again while recording this episode. Looking back, it feels like a conversation with my younger self… the one who sensed there was more beyond the surface of this world.Moonstone has always felt like:A soft doorway rather than a dramatic portalA glimpse beyond the veilA quiet, intimate cousin to labradorite✨ In This Episode:The science behind moonstone's glow (adularescence) and its feldspar structureAncient lore: solidified moonlight, sacred feminine energy, protection at nightMoonstone as a stone of new beginnings and transitionsEmotional balance, intuition, and dream workIts connection to hormonal cycles, fertility, and nurturing energyWhy moonstone enhances psychic sensitivity — especially during the full moonMoonstone doesn't rip the veil open. It gently thins it.It reminds us that not all awakenings are sudden. Some gifts unfold slowly — through cycles, through time, through lived experience. If you feel drawn to this stone, maybe it's not by accident.Sit with it under the full moon. Wear it close to your heart. Notice what begins to surface.Trust what glimmers just beyond the veil.

Spring doesn't arrive politely, and neither does real change. In this episode, we're talking about Ostara as it actually feels in your bones, not just the pastel version with bunnies and eggs. We explore the equinox as a hinge point, the only time when light and dark are truly balanced, and why that balance creates tension, storms, and movement. From ancient equinox observances aligned to the sun, to the modern Pagan celebration of Ostara shaped by the Wheel of the Year, we unpack where this sabbat comes from and what it's asking of us now.We share a couple of easy & witchy ways to prepare for the season, including an Ostara egg spell where hidden sigils are revealed in dye and old stress is literally smashed and returned to the earth. This is about messy becoming, cracking shells, and walking straight through the storm toward what you actually want.If you've been feeling restless, scattered, or called to finally start something you've been planning since Imbolc, this one's for you.Got a question? In this episode we're settling into that long, liminal stretch between Imbolc and Ostara. The snow is still hanging around, the days are technically getting longer but it doesn't always feel like it, and seasonal cranky shut in disorder is very real. This is a quiet and often deeply cold time of the year, where hope flickers but hasn't fully taken shape yet. That's exactly why we're focusing on everyday magick. The simple, doable, low effort kind that helps you keep going when getting out of bed already feels like a heroic act.We share some of our favorite mundane spells that gently weave magic into the rhythm of daily life. Morning candle work for setting one small intention. Decluttering spells that help reset the energy of your space when the vibes are off. Bag and wallet magic to make room for abundance. Even the humble act of making your bed becomes a spell for nervous system care, protection, and coming home to yourself at the end of the day. This isn't about doing everything. It's about doing one thing with presence.Chelle also brings forward a tarot thread she's been holding for this season, a simple and reflective way of working with the cards as we move from Imbolc's inward spark toward Ostara's outward growth. Think less pressure, more conversation with the cards. Tarot as companion, not assignment. We also talk about how to work magic with your houseplants during this time of year. From tending them as living spell anchors to using them as allies for growth, renewal, and intention setting, especially when the outside world is still frozen. Your plants know spring is coming, even if the ground hasn't caught up yet. There's wisdom there. This episode is for anyone who feels tired, restless, or quietly hopeful. For witches who want to stay connected without burning themselves out. For those of us who need reminders that small rituals matter, and that light returns slowly, but it does return. So grab your tea, check in with your plants, and come sit with us for a bit. We're getting through late winter together, one simple spell at a time.Got a question? Send the witches a message here!Support the showWant to send us a letter? And, then, today, as I work on the newsletter, sporadic power outages at our house cutting off my internet. As such, this newsletter will be a little shorter than usual with only a brief audio edition. I've gotten very off schedule this week! Our shop update today is an eclectic one, featuring assorted divine imperfections, “Luna” one-of-a-kind goddesses, and some red winged Nemesis goddesses (by customer request). We also still have assorted goddesses in our very special spring pigment—a beautiful lilac with small flowers. We are using this pigment to honor Áine, the Irish Fairy Queen, who is this year's featured goddess at Gaea Goddess Gathering. We do know that she is a summertime goddess, but we felt like this pigment was an excellent match for the spring equinox/Ostara and our month of Persephone as well, so we went forward with it!This week's magic:* 8 minute video: beholding delight.Resource Reminders:* New free series: An Introduction to Goddess Studies* 1. getting started* 2. printable journal* 3. affirmation card set* 4. portable altar space* 5. introduction to thealogy* 6. influential authors in goddess studies* 7. audio retreat: spots of time (note: publishing Saturday)Blog Posts:* Ritual Reading for Spring Equinox (A Spring Ritual of Returning)* Clarity and the CrossroadsBeholding DelightReminder: Let us be open to delight.
