In this episode, our host Gaby Azorsky speaks with Jessica Angima. Jessica is a first generation, Kenyan-American meditation instructor and social practice artist and organizer. Jessica is a writer and shares her Substack, Slowly, Slowly. She currently teaches Heart-Mind Meditation at Heal Haus, works at Arena, and is often found at the 462 Halsey Community Garden in Bed-Stuy.  I met Jessica at MNDFL in New York City where I was part of their work-study program and she was studying and teaching. We spent many weeks together at the front desk silently enjoying each others company, and I really loved being part of a sangha (Dharma community) with her.  Jessica and I talk about her path to dharma, Lovingkindness, wisdom for starting your practice, home, ecology, interdependence, community, and what she calls “McMindfullness”.  Our slow, meditative, conversation opens the doors for you to start a meditation practice with the permission that it can look many different ways, but promises a happier life. Here is the quote that I read during the episode ~  Being naturalized to place means to live as if this is the land that feeds you, as if these are the streams from which you drink, that build your body and fill your spirit. To become naturalized is to know that your ancestors lie in this ground. Here you will give your gifts and meet your responsibilities. To become naturalized is to live as if your children's future matters, to take care of the land as if our lives and the lives of all our relatives depend on it. Because they do. -Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer Thank you Jessica for your openness and gentle perspective on dharma! Don't feel "at home" where you're living? Drawn to a certain location or environment? There's a real thing called Astrocartography, and we're talking with master astrologer Elizabeth Smith on how to use this wisdom to point you in the right direction (literally).  What is it?From her website: "When we're born, the planets energetically ‘program' our endocrine glands to create a personality in the body. They also ‘install' that information into every location on Earth. When you change location, you significantly impact how your life will unfold in response to this planetary programming, which is unique to every person based on their birth time and place.. The Aquarian Age, with its emphasis on technology, mobility and individual freedom, has provided a guide to that location information. Simply stated, you can now consciously participate in choosing your astrological destiny."With more than 40 years experience, master astrologer and astrocartography expert Elizabeth Smith is a gifted counselor and seasoned speaker with a passion for facilitating liberation with this life-changing knowledge. She learned her stellar craft from the greats of the astrological world: Isabel Hickey, Jim Lewis and Liz Greene as well as through direct transmissions from the natural world while dwelling in deep communion with the elements for nineteen years. She has taught in the most reputable healing and spiritual education centers in New York City including Maha Rose, Heal Haus  and The Alchemist's Kitchen and has spoken in venues around the US that promote self awareness and balanced, healthy lifestyles. For more info or to book a session, please visit her website. What do astrology and qigong have in common? Plenty, according to master astrologer and astrocartography expert Elizabeth Smith. Don't miss this rare and illuminating discussion on astrology, astrocartography and qigong. Elizabeth goes beyond the mundane and shares her deep insight on how astrology can be used as a tool for spiritual awakening, beyond the perceived limitations of birth charts and notions of malefic and benefic planets. She brings her wisdom from decades of qigong practice to show us how it is connected with astrology. Beyond a health practice, qigong is a cleansing process to awaken our inner voice by clearing away lower frequencies. By illustrating their similarities she deepens our understanding of how each can serve us by teaching us how to harmonize with life. We are the stars, and the planets are here to assist in our growth. The evolution of astrology moves us from a “to me” mentality where we are victims, to a “by me” state, where we begin to accept responsibility for what happens in our lives, and finally to a “through me” way of being, where we become a vessel for the intelligence of nature and have greater access to freedom and joy. About Elizabeth: With more than 40 years of experience, master astrologer and astrocartography expert Elizabeth Smith is a gifted counselor and seasoned speaker with a passion for facilitating liberation with this life-changing knowledge. She learned her stellar craft from the greats of the astrological world: Isabel Hickey, Jim Lewis and Liz Greene as well as through direct transmissions from the natural world while dwelling in deep communion with the elements for nineteen years. Elizabeth brings a fun-loving spirit, calm vitality and proven intuition to her wisdom-centered work which she attributes to four decades of harmonizing Universal and Earth energies in the practices of Cheng T'ai Chi, Dao-In Chinese Yoga, and Master Key standing forms under the guidance of Chinese grandmasters Cheng Man-Ching, Ni Hua-Ching and Robert Peng. She has taught in the most reputable healing and spiritual education centers in New York City including Maha Rose, Heal Haus and The Alchemist's Kitchen and has spoken in venues around the US that promote self awareness and balanced, healthy lifestyles. Through an integrated understanding of people and planets, her private consultations invoke inspiration, clarity and healing of mind, body and spirit for clients and students from around the globe. In today’s episode, I’m joined by Shirin Eskandani. Shirin is a life coach, public speaker and writer who specializes in mindfulness and mindset work. She has been a featured wellness expert on the Today Show and Cosmopolitan Magazine, and prior to building her successful coaching business, she was an award-winning opera singer, performing at Carnegie Hall and The Metropolitan Opera.   Certified by the International Coach Federation, Shirin’s holistic approach to transformation is influenced by her background in meditation, spirituality and the arts. She is also an inspiring and dynamic speaker who has presented at ALT Summit, Ignite Womxn Summit, Well Summit, Heal Haus and the Assemblage. Shirin is co-founder of The Glow Up and Brown Girl Brunch. Shirin is brilliant, thoughtful, and wise. In today’s conversation we talk about how her realizing her dream of becoming an opera singer showed her that hustling for your worth never works — and also led to her work as a successful coach. We also talk about: How things shifted when she started focusing on her internal work over her external achievements How she works with science-based work and spiritual tools in tandem to heal herself and her clients  How to identify and listen to your intuition (as opposed to the ego/fear voice) What it means to heal as an individual in service of the collective; as opposed to the (usually) solitary work of self-help — and why it means we have to look at things that aren’t just “love and light” . . . and so much more! I think the conversation we shared is so important to hear always, but especially right now when a lot of us are feeling a little lost, a little overwhelmed, in need of some healing, and perhaps more dedicated than ever to finding and following our purpose. — Follow Shirin: Wholehearted Coaching Website Instagram Wholehearted Coaching: The Podcast   CREDITS Editing & Sound Engineering: Jordan Johansen Music: “Kenton” by Dr Crosby (Licensed via Marmoset)

My guest today is Laura Pensiero, actor, compassionate teacher, dedicated healer and business owner. Laura incorporates Reiki and Breathwork in private healing sessions as well as develops curriculum for workshops and long-term courses. I was lucky enough to experience, firsthand one of Laura’s Breathwork workshops and immediately invited her to be my podcast guest. After graduating from NYU’s Tish School for Acting, Laura moved out to LA to pursue her dream to be an actress. Laura looks back on her 7 years in LA, admitting that she didn’t have the tools at that time to live a healthy life while pursuing her acting career.  She acknowledges that she lost her way, gave up on her passion until she returned to NYC and had her first Reiki session. In one profound session, she felt her cells reorganize themselves and actually see herself again! Reiki awakened her path of healing and inspired her to create her new business “Reiki for Actors”. She also got certified in an emotional release modality called Breathwork as well as certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, determined to cleanse and heal her body, mind and spirit. Laura has been dating my nephew Matt Carr, Jr. and within a week of recording this conversation, Matt proposed to her, so I am delighted to announce that Laura will be part of my family!! I couldn’t be happier for these two warm, loving humans!! You can experience Laura’s bright energy and loving guidance at her next workshops offered at Maha Rose Healing Center and Heal Haus, both in Brooklyn. Check out the links below for details.
