Fifty-five-year-old James Brandon Jr. was a good Samaritan. On the evening of October 3, Crime Insider sources say Brandon tried to break up an argument between a man and a woman. The de-escalation, happening in the parking lot of a Henrico County McDonald's, turned deadly, and Brandon was fatally shot. Brandon was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he later died. An investigation is underway to determine what sparked a fire that damaged Iglesia Adventista West End. Fire was reported at the church, located at North Parham Road and Rolando Drive, just after 9 p.m. Wednesday. A tractor-trailer crash has closed Interstate 64 west, near Interstate 295, in eastern Henrico County. A dramatic image captured from a VDOT camera showed the crashed tractor-trailer appearing to be leaning on an overhead highway sign. "Traffic is being diverted at Exit 205," a VDOT spokesperson advised. "There are currently 3 miles of delays. Motorists should consider alternate routes to avoid additional delays." National Night Out brought Central Virginia community members together with law enforcement for a night of fun. CBS 6 anchor GeNienne Samuels joined the community at Henrico's event at Dorey Park, which organizers called metro Richmond's largest turnout, with thousands of community members expected. Police said a person was seriously injured after being stabbed at an apartment complex in Henrico County Sunday morning. Officers were called to the 100 block of Engleside Court, which is at the Essex Village Apartments, for a report of a stabbing at 7:40 a.m., according to Lt. Patrick Crook with Henrico Police. More than a decade after a national study found that Henrico Schools had the highest disparity nationally between the suspension rates of Black and white students, recent data shows that significant racial disparities continue to exist within the school system when it comes to school discipline and punishment. Varina resident Jeff Varljen says he was talking with his neighbor Monday when he suddenly smelled smoke in the air. “Lots of people have different fire pits all up and down the road," Varljen said. Six people were injured in a shooting Saturday night in Glen Allen, according to authorities. L.t David Turner with Henrico Police said officers were called to a shooting in the 11000 block of Old Washington Highway at 11:15 p.m. "Upon arrival six adult victims were located with non-life threatening injuries," Turner wrote. Henrico Police have now arrested a suspect they believe is connected to a murder that happened on Hope Road in the county. Police say Tuesday they arrested 31-year-old Travis Lee Terry of Richmond and charged him with second degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. Henrico Police say they are now investigating a death on Hope Road as a homicide. On Monday June 3, at 8:08 a.m., Henrico Police say they were called to the 1600 block of Hope Road for a reported domestic disturbance. Once on scene officers say they located an adult man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives with Henrico Police have identified the victim as Marquez Rashard Taylor, a 31-year-old from Glen Allen. Virginia State Police say they are investigating a shooting that happened on Interstate 64 sending three adults to the hospital. According to State Police, the shooting happened on westbound I-64 near the 192 mile marker at around 8 p.m. Tuesday. That's near the on/off-ramp for Route 360/Mechanicsville Turnpike. Troopers say their initial investigation leads them to believe that there was an altercation at a restaurant in Henrico County that continued onto the Interstate once the parties had left. A Henrico County domestic abuse treatment center is seeing a drastic rise in calls for service from domestic violence survivors. It comes on the heels of two different shooting deaths that police say are tied to domestic issues. On Tuesday, Henrico County Police released more information on a homicide investigation near Hope Road, saying the initial call to 911 came from someone involved in a domestic dispute. Police began a death investigation Monday morning outside a Hope Road apartment in the Fairfield community of Henrico County. Three people facing second-degree murder charges in the death of Irvo Otieno have had their charges downgraded. Wavie Jones, Kaiyell Sanders and Brandon Rodgers are now charged with involuntary manslaughter, according to online court records. Sanders and Rodgers are deputies with the Henrico Sheriff's Office while Jones is a worker at Central State Hospital. Earlier this month, Dinwiddie County Commonwealth's Attorney Amanda Mann essentially dropped charges against five others arrested on second-degree murder charges in connection to Otieno's death. A woman walking was hit and killed by a vehicle along Brook Road in Henrico County Sunday night, according to authorities. Two males were found dead in a Henrico building Friday morning, according to Henrico Police. Henrico Police remain at the crime scene along the 900 block of Nine Mile Road collecting evidence. Officers were called to the area at about 5:02 a.m. when someone heard gunshots and called police.
