Lupe Fiasco had a song entitled, "Hip Hop Saved My Life" back in 2007. It talks about how music saved his life and kept him on the right track. Music can help people get out of a dark place. Sometimes making music and following your passion can change the direction your life could go. Today, I have a guest who, even though he was bullied for being different he doubled down on music and left his hometown to completely change his life. Following your passion and always believing in yourself no matter what can make you the first in many different ways.Hey, I'm Rob and I am the host of Take A Shot With Me. I have traveled the world, worked on radio stations, and managed artists, now I wanna interview some of the best new artists I like and drink with themIn this week's episode of Take A Shot With Me, I sit down with Lewis John. Lewis is a 20-year-old DJ/producer from Cardiff, Wales. He started making music when he was 12 and followed his passion all the way to London. Leaving his small hometown in Wales for London at 18, he doubled down on his passion for music and didn't let the struggles get to him. He became the first-ever Welshman to play on Select Radio in London and be featured on the Toolroom Record label. Lewis doesn't let rejection hold him back, he takes it all in stride and comes back stronger. In this episode, we chat about everything from his life in Wales, being bullied by the Rugby kids, moving to London, meeting Mark Knight, getting Signed to Toolroom, and much much more. I also test Lewis's knowledge of Wales and his beloved Cardiff City.Really funny and entertaining chat with Lewis!Intro Song: Lewis John - LighterOutro Song: Yung Pretender feat. Chilli Chilton - Way To Love (Lewis John Remix)

Can't Knock the Shuffle

Nikki Jean is a hip hop artist through and through, but her music may not always appear that way from a distance. A singer/songwriter who got her start in the extended family of the legendary Roots crew as a member of the band Nouveau Riche, Nikki’s big breakthrough came when she wrote and sang the hook on Lupe Fiasco’s hit single “Hip Hop Saved My Life” in 2007. She’s collaborated with Lupe throughout his career ever since, but that was only the beginning for her. Her debut solo album ‘Pennies in a Jar’ put her in the co-writing chair with over 30 members of the American Songwriting Hall of Fame, including Carole King, Burt Bacharach, Lamont Dozier, Carly Simon, Thom Bell, and Barry Mann, and she’s kept busy ever since, most recently releasing her Beautiful Prison on her hometown of Minneapolis’s powerhouse indie label Rhymesayers Entertainment. Songs covered in this episode: "Hands Up" ('Champagne Water,' 2014) "Hip Hop Saved My Life" (Lupe Fiasco 'The Cool,' 2007) "Red Black & Blue (2012 Tulip St. Demo)" ('Beautiful Prison,' 2019) "People and Planes" ('Beautiful Prison,' 2019) "Madonna (And Other Mothers in the Hood)" (Lupe Fiasco 'Tetsuo & Youth,' 2015) "How To Unring a Bell" ('Pennies in a Jar,' 2011) "Take You Out" (2013) Nikki Jean: nikkijean.com instagram.com/seandammit twitter.com/seandammit instagram.com/thequestionshiphop Email: cantknocktheshuffle@gmail.com Learn more about your ad choices. LOOK OUT! It’s only Films To Be Buried With! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with national treasure comedian, presenter and podcaster ROMESH RANGANATHAN!The memories of an actual face to face encounter now seem so old and faded, it’s hard to even consider such an event. Let alone a live show. Can you even imagine? Well, with things as they are still, Brett has brought the podcast vehicle to your door with facemask and gloved hands once again, with guest in tow, the excellent multi-threat comic Romesh over the internet! Proper good times to be had, conversationally roaming freely with reckless abandon that brings to mind those halcyon days of a couple of months ago, including being a national treasure (Romesh won’t have any of it), his Mum being a breakaway star, the thrill of trying to master stuff (especially in lockdown times), working with the family in the picture and what mayhem or paradise that brings, packing for the afterlife, knockoff Care Bears and a HECK ton more. Such a good one, you’ll thoroughly enjoy.
