Mixing Music with Dee Kei | Audio Production, Technical Tips, & Mindset
In this no-holds-barred episode, Dee Kei and James dive deep into the toxic myths, vague advice, and ego-driven illusions that still dominate the world of mixing and audio education. From the false promise of "secret sauce" techniques to the cult of gear and performative certainty, they break down why so many mixers cling to superstition — and how it's holding back real growth. They also explore why even elite mixers often give ambiguous or misleading advice, how language shapes misunderstanding, and why certainty is often just a mask for insecurity or marketing.Plus: Japanese philosophy, baseball rituals, self-diagnosed autism, and why Rick Rubin might actually have it all figured out.
Send us a textWhat does it take to emerge from the shadow of a music legend and create your own path? In this compelling episode, we sit down with Teddy Riley Jr., better known as Yung Tash, who's blazing his own trail in the music industry while honoring the legacy of his father, new jack swing innovator Teddy Riley.Yung Tosh takes us through his fascinating journey from Atlanta's vibrant music scene to Las Vegas, where he's established himself as both a respected DJ and emerging recording artist. Despite his famous lineage, Tash shares how his father instilled the value of independence early on: "My pops taught me young, you gotta get it on your own. You're going to appreciate what you have more if you work for it by yourself." This ethos has clearly shaped his approach to the music business. The conversation reveals Tash's strategic career development – starting as a producer creating beats for artists like G Herbo and K Camp, then leveraging DJing to network within Vegas' entertainment scene when he was too young to experience the nightlife. His insights on testing new music directly with club audiences showcase a savvy understanding of artistic development: "Does this make a girl who's 21, who having her birthday, does it make her move at 12 o'clock at night? If it does, I know I got something."We explore the challenges Vegas faces in developing homegrown musical talent compared to cities like Atlanta, where the industry connections run deep. Young Tash offers thoughtful perspectives on music ownership, the modern streaming landscape, and balancing creativity with business acumen. His observations on staying authentic in an industry full of "fake individuals" reveals wisdom beyond his years: "Stay in your realm of people you know, the people that you started out with."Don't miss Young Tash's breakdown of his new single "Saint" and details about his upcoming album featuring collaborations with Trey Songz and his father. Follow Young Tash on social media to catch his next DJ set or release, and experience the sound of an artist who's honoring his roots while defining his own future.
Mixing Music with Dee Kei | Audio Production, Technical Tips, & Mindset
In this episode, Dee Kei and Lu dive deep into the sonic and philosophical chaos of mixing hyperpop, sigilkore, and other maximalist genres — where distortion, clipping, and sheer loudness aren't flaws, they're features. From pushing mixes to -2 LUFS to layering clippers at every stage, Dee Kei shares his firsthand experiences mixing records for artists like Odetari and Barelyhuman, and how that work has redefined his approach to both mixing and creativity. But this episode goes beyond technique. It explores the philosophy behind weirdness, the cultural value of outsider genres, and why trying to normalize everything can kill innovation. We talk gear (StandardClip, Cake, Gold Clip), philosophy (Zen, dualism, the Just World Fallacy), and how freedom from expectation leads to better art.

In 2021, a $20 million sexual assault lawsuit was filed against both Trey Songz and Sean "Diddy" Combs by Jauhara Jeffries, who alleged that Songz assaulted her at a nightclub in 2018. While the primary focus was on Songz's actions, the inclusion of Diddy as a defendant hinted at a deeper, more systemic issue within the music industry. Jeffries claimed that Diddy, as the event's host, bore responsibility for the environment that enabled such misconduct. This case, though centered on Songz, subtly illuminated the pervasive culture of exploitation and the potential complicity of industry moguls like Diddy. At the time, the allegations against Diddy in the Jeffries lawsuit may have been overshadowed by the more direct accusations against Songz. However, in retrospect, this case foreshadowed the extensive legal troubles Diddy now faces. The lawsuit highlighted his alleged role in fostering environments where abuse could occur, a theme that has become central in the numerous charges currently levied against him, including sex trafficking and racketeering. The Jeffries case served as an early indicator of the allegations that Diddy's influence and parties were not just passive settings but active facilitators of misconduct, a narrative that has only gained traction with his subsequent legal challenges.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:202010265.pdf
