Send us a textBridget stops by the podcast to discuss music, metaphysics, and much more. ****Bridget Barkan is a chameleon artist who shape-shifts through genre and style with a thread of raw truth and soul, woven into every melody and lyric. A native New Yorker, she has toured the world with pop/glam band Scissor Sisters and has performed with Bright Light Bright Light and Slow Knights. Starring in LGBTQ romantic classic “Walk with Me,” as a singer/songwriter, featured on the original album as well. As a singer, she has also opened for Lady Gaga, and has shared the stage with Drag legends Joey Arias, Murray Hill, and more. She worked closely with Baz Luhrmann as the voice of Misty Holloway on the Netflix show “The Get Down.” Bridget has released singles with the House DJ/producer legend Todd Terry as well as numerous of her own singles. As a child actress, she has appeared in countless commercials and Sesame Street. She has starred in HBO's Everyday People, Sherrybaby, Redacted, God's Pocket, Steven Soderbergh's The Knick and had a recurring role as a one-legged “hooker” on Law & Order: SVU. On stage, Barkan has appeared in numerous productions including Dog Sees God and alongside Lea Michelle in a workshop of Spring Awakening. "Heartbroken Ones” was a practice in healing, purging, and processing what Barkan was going through. “It helped me get through one of the worst moments of my life. It was the acceptance I was singing to myself,” Barkan explains. “All that mattered was releasing the pain that this indiscretion had caused.” Working with producer Austin Bello (Nikki Pope, FNKHOUSER, Goldvein) again who worked on her previous single “Good Things” and singer songwriter Poet Hawkins, she crafted the song in “a more old soul approach at first. But then I kept listening to my friend Natti Vogel's song ‘FAB (Free Ass Bitch),' which also was a healing song, which had a more pop and synth based energy, so we went in that direction, instead. We took parts of a voice memo and created a soundscape which really captured the inner world I was in.” A regular in the NYC artsy pop underground that includes Bright Light Bright Light, Xavier Smith, and John Cameron Mitchell among many others, Bridget is a “Jill of All Trades” on a one woman journey through life, love and loss. She also formerly toured the world with Scissor Sisters and can be seen in their earth-shattering “Let's Have A Kiki” video as one of Ana Matronic's crew. Having inherited her father's knack for songwriting, Bridget's intrinsic artistry and talent is a legacy she proudly carries. *****If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomAudio production by Rich Zei of Third Ear AudioIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast Suzi©2025 Better To...Podcast with D. The first week of the Miami Hurricanes' Spring Practice is in the books, and Cam and The Beast break it all down. First, we start with two HUGE recruiting wins the Canes got this week. Jaelan Waters, a DB out of Seffner Armwood, and Ben Congdon, a massive OL out of Ohio, verbally committed this week. The 2026 class is strong so far. Then it's on to the first week of Spring Practice. We told you before Spring, and we are telling you now, we have heard nothing but strong things about freshman WR Malachi Toney, aka Baby Jesus. Toney was ahead of Ray Ray Joseph in the starting group on Friday. Will Ray Ray have what it takes to fend off Toney and return to the starting group? We shall see. The offense is looking good, even with out CB out there slinging it. The defense is a bit of a work in progress as new DC Corey Hetherman gets to know the players and his staff. But, there is a positive vibe as guys are reportedly enjoying the simpler system and the ability to play multiple positions. The hiring of Jai Lucas as the Canes' head basketball coach is done, and he will be introduced this week. We'll have more on Lucas and his staff coming up next week. Finally, The Beast was off-put by something the Canes Football social media team did involving Jon Gruden ( for a reminder on why Jon Gruden is no longer coaching...read here https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/08/sports/football/nfl-demaurice-smith-jon-gruden-racist-comment.html ) As always, go read Cam's great work at The State of The U

You might wonder why God chose to come to us as a little, innocent baby when he could have just as easily come to us fully grown. We can perceive some significance to the fact that Jesus was revealed to us first as a baby as we continue to ponder the great mysteries of Christmas and the Incarnation.
As Epiphany follows New Year's Day, let the Christ Child give you a great way to keep your New Year's resolutions! The transcription for this Podcast can be found at https://www.ourcatholicprayers.com/Gifts-for-Baby-Jesus.html Catholic Answers Page on the Three Wise Men in Epiphany
In this episode of Monthly Spooky, we explore some of the strangest and creepiest New Year's traditions from around the world as I sit down with my co-host Michelle to reflect on the past year and the peculiar ways different cultures celebrate the coming of a new year. We discuss how these bizarre customs reveal deeper meanings and beliefs about fate, fortune, and the supernatural. We start by recounting our recent holiday experiences, which included painful bouts of food poisoning and a visit to the Philadelphia Christmas Village. Michelle shares her less-than-stellar Hanukkah experiences and how being physically present during her illness has turned our friendship into a comedic yet tragic tale. There's an amusing back-and-forth as we reminisce about different food adventures and our mutual love for hot pot, all while highlighting how illness can dampen holiday spirits. After some humorous anecdotes, we shift gears to spooky news stories that bring a chill to the heart. These include a humorous account of a missing Baby Jesus statue from a nativity scene in Colorado that was returned with an apology note, and a ghostly encounter captured on TikTok that left a mother defending the innocence of her toddler. We contemplate the meaning behind such strange happenings, weaving our discussion into the fabric of creeping superstition.Next, we dive into our main topic: peculiar New Year's traditions. Exploring various customs, we highlight the practice of using bread to scare away spirits in Ireland, and how setting a place at the table for departed loved ones signifies a welcoming gesture. We also ponder the chilling belief that doing laundry on New Year's Day may wash away a family member, a superstition that leaves one cautious about household chores. In contrast, we discuss rituals that encourage abundance and ward off evil, such as the practice of noise-making and opening doors to usher in prosperity. As we navigate through other strange customs—like the "bear dance" in Romania and the "grape-eating" tradition in Spain—we find connections between the joy of welcoming a new year and the dread that some cultures associate with impending misfortune. I share my thoughts on the significance of these rituals, while Michelle adds her cynical perspective, questioning the logic behind each practice.Wrapping up, we reflect on the trials of the past year, expressing gratitude for the support received from listeners and each other. I highlight the importance of celebrating what we've learned and the relationships we've nurtured despite the chaos. This dynamic and often humor-laden episode touches upon the human experience, the traditions that shape our lives, and the connection between love, loss, and the uncanny.Support Us and Get Bonus Shows on Patreon!Contact Us/Submit a Storytwitter.com/WeeklySpookyfacebook.com/WeeklySpookyWeeklySpooky@gmail.comMusic by Ray Mattis http://raymattispresents.bandcamp.comExecutive ProducersRob FieldsMark ShieldsBobbletopia.comProduced by Daniel WilderThis episode is sponsored by HenFlix.com

How well do you know your favorite holiday songs? We're revisiting an episode of Rachel's Trivia Challenge—all about Christmas carols! Which beloved Christmas Eve hymn originally referenced Baby Jesus's curly hair? Which carol writer once posed as the Virgin Mary for a famous pre-Raphaelite painting? Which faux medieval ballad is regularly sung at Boar's Head Festivals around the country? And the trickiest question of all: which Christmas carol is Sarah's all-time favorite (today)? A lightning round at the end challenges listeners to identify carols based only on the title or first line of the song in its language of origin. It felt like we’d been waiting forever for news that our pregnant neighbor had welcomed her first baby. When a sign declaring “It’s a Girl!” finally appeared on their front lawn, we celebrated the birth of their daughter and texted friends who might not have seen the outdoor display. There’s great excitement awaiting the arrival of a baby. Before Jesus’ birth, the Jewish people hadn’t just been waiting a few months, they’d longed for the birth of the messiah, Israel’s expected rescuer, for generations. I imagine that over the years faithful Jews wondered if during their lifetime they would see the fulfillment of this promise. One night the long-anticipated news was displayed in the heavens when an angel appeared to shepherds in Bethlehem announcing that the messiah had finally been born. He told them, “This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12). After the shepherds saw Jesus, they praised God and “spread the word” (v. 17) about the baby. God wanted the shepherds to know that the long-awaited baby had arrived so they could tell others about Jesus’ birth. We still celebrate Jesus’ birth because His life provides rescue from the brokenness of the world to anyone who believes. We no longer have to wait to know peace and experience joy, which is good news worth announcing!

In this episode of the Podcast for Cultural Reformation, Dr. Joe Boot and Pastor Nate Wright talk about the turbulence of the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Baby Jesus, the meek and mild babe in a manager, shook the entire fabric of the world, troubling many, filling others with wrath and fear, but causing many to come from afar to prostrate themselves before him in worshipful service. What's your response to the lowborn King of Kings? May it be the way of wisdom: worship and adoration. When KC visits his good friend, Ernest, he learns that "God wanted to throw a party for baby Jesus, so He sent angels to announce that there was peace on earth! That was God's gift to us, peace. God wanted everyone to hear about Jesus, so the angels showed up on a hillside where some shepherds were sleeping and woke them up. The angels said, 'We've got good news! A baby is born in Bethlehem. It's a boy! And He's gonna take away your sins!'" “For God so loved the world, He gave His only Son,” John 3:16. #kids, #storiesforchristiankids, #christmas, #firstchristmas, #angelsannouncejesusbirth, #biblestoriesforkids, #forgodsolovedtheworld, #jesusisborn, #joytotheworld, #biblelessonsforkids,#fishbytesforkids, #fishbytes4kids, #fishbitesforkids, #ronandcarriewebb, #roncarriewebb

Canon Stephen Sharpe, ICKSP serves as Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Shrine in Detroit, Michigan. He was ordained in 2020. In Today's Show I find it difficult to articulate my sins with clarity and finding the correct labels, any advice?** What is the difference between Catholic saints who had visions from people like Ellen G. White? Is it okay for someone to casually commend themself because they presume, they have a good spiritual life? What happens when someone is canonized, but evidence later resurfaces that puts into question the saint's authenticity? I was in a chat with a priest online and it turned out to be an AI bot. I poured my heart out to it before I realized. How can we best balance sports events with church? What are the duties of a confirmation sponsor? Does the ICKSP pastor decide mass times based on the needs of the faithful? and should we have public liturgy of the hours? What are your thoughts on the Notre Dame vestments and the keffiyeh under the Baby Jesus? It is important to choose good friends. I wish I had isolated my kids more. (14:46) Courtney (email) – What is your advice to living with parents or siblings who are a corrupting influence, given that we also have responsibilities towards our family members? (18:40) Richard - People need to watch what gets into their brain. Once the brain absorbs the bad it is hard to get rid of it. (27:12) Robert - Is it real or demonic when family members appear in dreams? (28:58) Jason – I have friends seeking God, but they don’t believe in Christ's divinity. How can I help my friends understand? (36:36) Rick - I didn't let my kids have phones until high school. We saw a lot of problems with their friends who had smartphones. (40:11) Joshua – Is Catholic counseling okay if it’s over the phone? (44:14) Andrea - Can you speak about Pope Francis and Baby Jesus wearing a keffiyeh (scarf). It is Palestinian. What do you think?
