On Sunday, March 16th, Pastor Cal Revell delivered an inspiring message, "Humble Heart," based on Psalm 51. He explored why David was a man after God's own heart, highlighting six key qualities of a humble heart: honesty, seriousness about sin, vulnerability, teachability, trust in God's goodness, and a longing for wholeness. We pray that this message blesses you, encourages you and ultimately draws you closer to our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Brother Humble Heart: "I cannot but be struck with the fact that your counsel and instruction are the very opposite of what was given to me by the last person I spoke to about my sorrows. He is a man very wise in the Scriptures, having scores of passages at his finger's end. He told me that the only way to get rid of my doubting was to believe the Word, and that every time I felt miserable to lay hold of one of the promises."
This Christmas message explores the profound truth that the birth of Christ is the ultimate expression of God's love. Through Mary's extraordinary encounter with God, Pastor Matt Petty reveals five transformative truths about divine love: • God's love knows us intimately - even a humble teenage girl in Nazareth • His power manifests in unexpected ways - turning ordinary moments into divine appointments • His mercy extends beyond generations - from Abraham to Mary to us today • He lifts up the humble heart - choosing those the world overlooks • He faithfully keeps every promise - proving that no word from God will ever fail Through Mary's courageous response, we learn that true faith isn't about our worthiness but about saying "yes" to God's love. This message challenges us to move beyond seasonal celebrations to experience the transformative power of divine love that changes everything.

When the disciples ask who will be great in heaven, Jesus teaches that the path is found in a humble heart. (Lectionary #414) August 13, 2024 - Cathedral Rectory - Superior, WI Fr. Andrew Ricci - www.studyprayserve.com
Today, we're focusing on the strength found in humility during spiritual battles. Our key Scripture for this episode is James 4:6-7. We'll explore how humility can be a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare. Our springboard for today's discussion is: James 4:6-7: "But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.' Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." This passage highlights the importance of humility in our spiritual battles.Humility is a powerful virtue in spiritual warfare. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. When we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil from a place of humility, we stand firm in our battles. Humility positions us to receive God's grace and strength, making it essential for overcoming the enemy. The Role of Humility in Resisting the Enemy:Humility helps us recognize our dependence on God rather than relying on our own strength. It opens us to God's guidance and protection. James 4:7 instructs us to submit to God and resist the devil. By humbling ourselves, we acknowledge our need for God's power in our lives.Strategies for Maintaining Humility in Spiritual Warfare:* Daily Submission to God: Start each day by submitting yourself to God in prayer, acknowledging His lordship over your life. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding.* Recognize and Repent of Pride: Regularly examine your heart for pride and repent when it is found. 1 John 1:9 assures us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.* Serve Others Selflessly: Look for opportunities to serve others without seeking recognition. Philippians 2:3-4 encourages us to value others above ourselves and to look to their interests.Embracing humility in spiritual warfare strengthens our resistance against the enemy and draws us closer to God.Question: How can you practice humility in your daily life to strengthen your spiritual battles?Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the strength found in humility. Help us to submit to You daily, to recognize and repent of pride, and to serve others selflessly. Equip us with Your grace to stand firm in spiritual warfare. May our humble hearts be a testament to Your power and love. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.Remember, humility is our strength in spiritual warfare. Stay vigilant, stay prayerful, and always be ready to stand firm with a humble heart. Let's get to work.My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication. Hebrews 2:7-8a You have made him for a little while lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, and have appointed him over the works of Your hands; You have put all things in subjection under his feet. Although man was made lower than the angels for a little while, God crowned him with glory and honor by giving him jurisdiction or authority over all of His creation. Genesis 2:15, 19 record man's appointment by God over all things. “Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.” After Eve was created from Adam's side, in verse 23, we see that he named her Eve. Naming things is an exercise of jurisdiction. When God brought everything to Adam for naming, He crowned him with glory and honor and put all things in subjection to him. In this verse, the author is on his way to explaining how even though God humbled Himself by taking on the form of man, He is still greater than the angels. This highlights for us the relationship of humility to love. Jesus came into our realm because He lives to love with His Father, who is love. A proud person doesn't lay down his life for others, especially for his enemies. You're probably familiar with Paul's explanation to the Philippians of Jesus' humility as a motivation to love like He has loved us. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Phil. 2:3-8). Yes, we are the crown of God's creatures on earth and we bear the valuable image of God in humanity, but we are not to be proud. We are lower than the angels and if we have Jesus dwelling in us, we have His attitude of humility as a fountain of His love. We observe from the passage in Philippians that humility produced obedience in Jesus. He obeyed His Father's command to love not matter what the cost. This will be true for us today. As we humble ourselves, surrender our wills to God's will, we choose to love others out of obedience to Jesus' command to love. We don't love in our own strength apart from Jesus. We love by the strength of Jesus' humility, in the power of the Holy Spirit, for the glory of God. This is our calling as believers in Jesus Christ—humbly loving with Jesus.

"But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.'” - 1 Samuel 16:7 What does God see when he looks into our hearts? Does he see a humble, contrite and broken heart, that he will not spurn? Today Fr. Mike Schmitz shares a word of encouragement from the book of 1 Samuel for how to shape our hearts so that the Lord can be present to them and abide in them.

Jesus Tells Us: Have a Humble Heart In today's Gospel, Jesus tells us to have a humble heart. In the reading and in the Gospel, God teaches us about humility. Jesus humbled Himself so that we may be raised up as sons and daughters of God. Jesus wants us also to be humble. Hear more within the Homily. He also teaches us a lesson. In the Gospel, Jesus talks about revealing the secrets of Heaven to the little ones, and not the learned. Who are the little ones? We hear about the characteristics of the little ones. Jesus tells us we should emulate the actions of little children. What did He mean by that? Hear more within the Homily. In the Homily, we hear about two people on a train. We hear one is angry, then realizes she was wrong. She should have been thankful to the man on the train. Hear how this story should impact our Spiritual Journey. Listen to this Meditation Media. Fr. Jacob Otieno, SMM, is a Montfort Missionary priest from Kenya, graciously offers his Gospel reflections. He is currently visiting the shrines of the Company of Mary located in Connecticut and on Long Island. The Company of Mary is actively working towards establishing a shrine in Kenya and has expressed a desire to study the Marian Shrines in the United States as part of their preparations. The forthcoming shrine's name in Kenya is Our Lady of Peace.
