Quogue Field Club is a 9-hole track located on Long Island. It’s a beautiful course that renowned golf course architect Ian Andrew has done restoration work for in recent years. Ian and I chatted about what went into the process of modifying and restoring certain parts of this Bendelow classic. Ian also shared some interesting insight regarding how the course compares to some of the heavy hitters in the area including Shinnecock and National. Spoiler Alert: It’s a completely different golf experience. This comes as a relief to locals looking to tee it up and avoid the summer crowds that plague the nearby Hamptons. After speaking with Corey Harris about the Washington Club a few episodes back, I became infatuated with the concept of 9-hole courses. Their simplicity, and the particular type of laid-back experience that they provide is endlessly endearing. Check out Ian’s Website to see some of the marvelous work he’s done.

Tread Perilously's Star Trek month continues with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Season 2 premiere, "The Child." While transferring the new chief medical officer, Doctor Katherine Pulaski, to the Enterprise, an energy form crosses paths with the ship and decides to become human. Embedding itself in Counselor Troi, she soon experiences a heavily accelerated pregnancy. Meanwhile, an outbreak of plasma plague forces Captain Picard to allow a cargo of dangerous virus samples aboard. Will Troi's alien child disturb the samples? And will it ever admit its reasons for becoming a real boy? Erik and Justin immediately launch into a discussion of KISS as Erik's impression of Ace Frehley becomes an unlikely guest. The episode's origins as a script written for Star Trek: Phase II get discussed while Dr. Beverly Crusher's absence does not go unnoticed. Geordi's promotion is declared one of the show's smartest decisions. Justin recalls the time he visited the Next Generation set. He also marvels at how an episode ostensibly about Counselor Troi isn't actually about Counselor Troi. Erik both praises and criticizes Brent Spiner's performance in one scene and the pair try to determine what sort of New Wave band Troi's child, Ian Andrew, would front.
I had a great time chatting with Ian about climbing in some of his favorite spots and what it takes to do this sport. We tackle the subject of fear, and Ian does an excellent overview of all the different pieces of gear he uses. If you are a novice to this sport, this episode may be a great start.
Ian Andrew is chief executive of the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) and is also on the board of the Confederation of European Pest Management Associations (CEPA). Ian is therefore one of the key leaders in our industry’s associations. Ian appreciates that pest managers have doubts and fears regarding the current risks concerning the Covid-19 situation and details how pest control managers can plan to overcome them. BPCA has recently launched a set of guidelines for those working in pest control which we discuss together. Exclusively, Ian informs us about the new survey BPCA has just done with its members. Very insightful and shocking, this reveals that 44% of respondents claimed they were, or had, suffered from mental health issues. In the interview we discuss why this is and what people can do to overcome this problem. Ian has some positive thoughts on this topic and his suggestions and ideas should be heard. Ian also discusses what the UK pest control sector might look like post Covid-19. A very likely result is surely the increased use of all sorts of „digital“ items of communication. Ian is a strong supporter of these, having introduced with his team webinars, video meetings, digital events, info hubs on the website, guidelines and much more – actually so much good and profound information that we would consider the BPCA as very go-ahead and hence maybe the best association for communications in the world.
