"Eating habits are going to play a bigger role in the disease process than we've been led to believe.” - Dr. Denise Scott Did you know that 70 to 80 percent of our immune cells live in our gut? Why is that important? Because what goes on in the gut communicates whether our body thrives or attacks itself. Ultimately, our gut is responsible for how our immune system responds and functions – and more importantly, it's responsible for how well we are. Join Dr. Michelle Robin as she invites Dr. Denise Scott to talk more about this fascinating connection between the gut and disease prevention. She'll share what led her down this journey of wanting to work with kids and parents, and what missed opportunities and conversations parents should be having with their kid's pediatrician. She will also provide wisdom behind what our gut needs so that the rest of our body functions well – and why the first few years of a child's life are crucial to setting the stage for their future health. About Today's Guest: Dr. Denise Scott is a pediatrician, pediatric endocrinologist, and culinary medicine specialist who is passionate about improving children's health with nutrition by educating parents. She has spent the last three decades taking care of children and wants to continue to improve their health with food as prevention. If Taylor Swift's nemesis Scooter Braun is having a bad week, is it a pretty safe assumption that TayTay is having a good one? So, why is everyone talking about Braun right now?Plus, Real Housewives superfan Ben mounts a spirited defence of the reality TV juggernaut and tries to convince non-believer Wenlei to give it a go.And, actor and comedian Matt Okine stops by to chat about his bold adventure, a remake of iconic Australian series Mother and Son while BL and WM wrestle over the Bradley Cooper "Jewface" controversy.
Two big shows this week – first up is the reboot of Mother and Son (ABC/iview). Starring Matt Okine and Denise Scott, the Aussie sitcom created a debate in this episode with Andrew and James having very different opinions about its first outing. Next is a drama that the hosts expect to be amongst the best TV of the year. The Sixth Commandment stars Timothy Spall, Anne Reid and a what could surely be a BAFTA-winning performance from Eanna Hardwicke as the very creepy Ben. Don't. Miss. This. Show. Also on offer this week is Outback Farm (7mate/7plus) with narration by, wait for it, Jason Donovan. Finally, Andrew looks at a new drama about the opioid crises in the US, Painkiller (Netflix).See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On today's podcast, I have comedian / writer / actor… and well, jack of all trades ‘Matt Okine' here to talk about his biggest challenge yet - rebooting ‘Mother and Son.' The reboot of the great Australian sitcom, starts on the 23rd of August at 8:30pm with comedians ‘Denise Scott' and ‘Matt Okine' as ‘Maggie' and ‘Arthur.' Previously played by ‘Ruth Cracknell' and ‘Garry McDonald.' Almost three decades after the original show ended its successful 10-year run on the ‘ABC,' ‘Okine' has collaborated with the original writer, ‘Geoffrey Atherden,' to create a new program which explores ageing and changing family dynamics, with the added twist of the migrant experience brought by ‘Okine. ‘ Some people will love the reboot and I guess some people won't be able to see passed the original but I hope you watch at least the first three episodes before making a decision. I will find out how the show was pitched and why ‘Matt' always wanted ‘Denise Scott' for the roll of ‘Maggie.' We will unpack why this show had to evolve in some ways from the original and how the creators worked with ‘Dementia Australia' getting the authenticity of the ‘Maggie's' mental state right. ‘Matt' will reveal why the theme music was dropped and how much of his performance was influenced by ‘Garry McDonald's' original take on the role. Plus we will get plenty of exclusives from behind the scenes of ‘Mother and Son.' Which as I mentioned starts next week this week on ‘ABC' and ‘ABC iview.' Welcome to Episode 56 of Talking Prisoner where your host, Matt Batten, enjoys a sit-down with Lynne McGranger, best known for her role as Irene Roberts on the long-running soap, Home and Away. With nearly three decades on the show, Lynne proudly holds the title of longest-serving female cast member. Before capturing our hearts as Irene, Lynne graced several other Australian TV shows such as The Flying Doctors, Skirts, Street Angels, Seven Deadly Sins, and Sky Trackers. In this episode, Lynne recounts her journey from her humble beginnings in Sydney, her time as a school teacher, and how she landed her enduring part on Home and Away.We delve into the mystery surrounding Jacqy Phillips's departure and why she didn't continue as Irene. Lynne shares her insightful thoughts on the end of Neighbours and the future of free-to-air TV. With a fondness for theatre acting, Lynne has appeared in many pantomimes over the years which are also discussed in our conversation. In the 1980s, Lynne was part of the comedy group, The Natural Normans, performing alongside Denise Scott, Sally-Anne Upton, and Lynda Gibson. Lynne reminisces about the laughs and the learning during her comedy stint. In 2014, Lynne put on her dancing shoes for Dancing with the Stars, emerging as the runner-up. We chat about the intense schedule of learning to dance and the unforgettable experiences on the show. Lynne shares her journey of penning down her book, “Me, Myself and Irene,” and the process that led to its creation.Interestingly, Lynne reveals that she discovered through a radio interview with Jonesy and Amanda that her character Irene was set to be axed in 2002. Fortunately, Coral Drouyn, a Prisoner Writer who had been hired to boost Home and Away's ratings, saved Irene, believing her character had many storylines left to explore.Lynne also shares cherished memories of working with Chris Hemsworth who played Kim Hyde on Home and Away and a hilarious encounter with a fan during dinner with Ray Meagher after a long day of shooting.Don't forget to like and subscribe to our YouTube channel to ensure you never miss an episode of Talking Prisoner! #lynnemcgranger #homeandaway #chrishemsworth #neighbours

This episode is the Denise Scott episode. It’s such an honour to have her on the show. Yes, she’s hilarious and an icon, but she’s also one of the most generous and supportive performers in our industry. She started off in a clown troupe, gained national recognition on The Big Gig and Tonight Live With Steve Vizard, put in several Most Valuable Player performances in the Agony series before writing a couple of best-selling books and touring the nation with her comedy bestie, Judith Lucy.In this interview, she leaves nothing in the shed. For your reference, “John” is her husband, and her children are “Jordie” and “Bonnie”.And “Judith” is of course Judith Lucy. As usual, I started by asking Denise, when she was most happy.
