Counselor Troi wakes up as a Romulan and must immediately become badass or die. You see, she's been benevolently kidnapped by a Romulan friend of Spock's ... kind of. Meanwhile on the Enterprise, a traitor of the Federation who had defected to Romulus, comes back to deliver a message. They've got to go to some coordinates for a very important delivery. Troi verbally duels with Commander Toreth of the Romulan ship, and together they slay Bechdel in a Test of Tense Space Combat. Troi's best episode, which is something to celebrate. Ready to boldly go and discover exciting new worlds? Yeah, sure, but first we have to run some errands. This time, the Enterprise D is dispatched to see why the very impressive, nuclear powered Argus Array isn't working. That's right! The Argus Array, a badass telescope! The flagship of the Federation staffed with the crew that single-handedly stopped the Borg from invading earth, is investigating when they discover a foreign probe floating near the array. Geordi takes returning guest star Reg Barclay in a shuttle to get a closer look at the giant space suppository. There's a flash of light that knocks Barclay unconscious, and after a merry chase, the Enterprise destroys the pursuing probe. Looks like everything is back to normal and they can focus on fixing the array. Isn't that a relief? Oh wait, we forgot to mention that Barclay is now a super genius who dazzles everyone with his newfound brains and charm . . . until he takes over the ship! Will pissy Picard manage to regain control? Will Barclay score with Counselor Troi? Will Data and Barclay face off in a game of Jeopardy!? A TRANSPORTER MIRACLE created two Rikers eight years ago setting up a situation where Counselor Troi would be confronted with the man she fell in love with who was still madly in love with her and Commander Riker looking a different part of himself right in the eyes. It's all in service of getting some Important Scientific Data from a planet and that could not be any less interesting than the love triangle aboard the Enterprise. How do Bryan, Kristen, and special guest Kat Spada respond to this one and do you agree with Bryan & Kat that Troi and Lt. Riker hooked up or do you think Kristen got it right?
Disaster Strikes! We remember Picard hates kids, but then loves them. We remember Dr. Crusher knows how to hold on to stuff when being sucked into vortexes. We remember Worf is excellent at midwifery. We remember Data is an android who knows how to keep his head screwed on straight. We also remember Chief O'Brien kicks ass and Ensign Ro is a badass/killer. But who knew Counselor Troi was a Commander? We sure didn't! This is a fun one that gives us more of that slice of life on the Enterprise. Get in touch with us on BlueSky @ReEngageTNG.bsky.social on Twitter @ReEngageTNG! Tread Perilously continues its annual Star Trek month with the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode called "The Loss." When the Enterprise encounters anomalous sensor shadows on multiple systems, it soon becomes trapped in a gravitational field none of the bridge staff can explain. Meanwhile, Counselor Troi loses her empathic powers. Is it related to whatever phenomenon is happening outside the ship? And will she be able to adjust to life as a non-empathic humanoid in time to discover why the ship is being hurtled toward a quantum sting fragment? Also, an ensign learns to grieve. Erik is immediately impressed by the episode's ability to discuss grief and loss -- notions forbidden in earlier seasons by creator Gene Roddenberry. A joke about the episode director's name leads to Justin developing another missing film from the 1980s. The post-scarcity and agnostic natures of the Federation are examined. Worf continues to declare whether or not aspects of his world have honor. The pair also examine the episode's disability metaphor. Troi apparently being the lone counselor for over 1000 people becomes a sticking point. Favorite recurring Star Trek: Discovery characters are named. Justin and Erik try to make Geordi's journey across the series more impactful and Erik decides Troi and Riker are better together.

BRYAN AND KRISTEN kick off the second season of Trek Marry Kill with a review of season one. What worked? What didn't work? What was the biggest complaint and how did we decide to address it? Season two will feature some minor tweaks to the format, including theme months, the animated shows, a new question to ask before TREK, MARRY, OR KILL? and a list of Wild Card episodes that Kristen drew from a Spock mug. Stay tuned because we dropped two episodes this week: Counselor Troi is pregnant in The Next Generation's second season premiere, "The Child." If you're enjoying our show, consider rating us five stars on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. You can check out all our rankings at trekmarrykillpod.com. GROW THE BEARD. Season two of Star Trek: The Next Generation fundamentally altered the course of the franchise's popularity and all of that started right here in the season two premiere. Based on a script recycled from the aborted Star Trek: Phase II series, this episode about Counselor Troi having a miracle child causes Bryan and Kristen to discuss abortion, yo momma jokes, and HIPAA laws. Will they TREK, MARRY, or KILL it?If you're enjoying the show, consider rating us five stars in your podcast app of choice and leave a review if you feel so inclined. Keep track of our standings on trekmarrykillpod.com and if you have any ideas for the show, including what should be our final grade/question before asking TREK, MARRY, or KILL, you can at us on Twitter or Instagram: @trekmarrykpod.

On this episode, Jeff Akin reviews Star Trek The Next Generation, The Bonding (Season 3, Episode 5). He will examine the leadership approaches of Captain Picard and Counselor Troi. A child on the Enterprises loses his mother and he is all alone. Captain Picard not only has to tell him of his loss, but also has to solve an alien mystery. In this, he demonstrates that a leader rarely needs to make decisions, or enter into situations, on their own. Marina Sirtis pulled the short straw on this script. What should have been a great vehicle for her to show her chops ends up falling a little flat. GET IT!? The Enterprise is pulled along in the wake of what the bridge crew discover to be two-dimensional beings. At the same time, Counselor Troi loses the ability to feel others' feelings and to have any rational response to those things happening at the same time. She resigns as counselor - until she gets a great talking to from Guinan and saves the day by coming up with the moth to the flame analogy. Jimmie hosts this one, wishing it was better. This week the crew of the Enterprise find themselves escorting a famous peace negotiator to his next talks. In the process Counselor Troi finds herself in a new romantic situation while the rest of the crew find the negotiator and his aides fascinating. Will this famous negotiator find a way to get passed his misfortune? Will Counselor Troi find true love? Will Worf ever actually trust anyone? Will the two warring factions finds peace? All these questions and more will be answered in this episode of Hailing Frequencies Open.
A doctor is sick, and the only doctor who can save him is The Doctor! The EMH hops into WinZip and e-mails himself back to the Alpha Quadrant for a medical emergency unlike any other! Can he save his cantankerous, emotionally abusive genius of a pseudo-father? Is it possible for the marvelous presence of Counselor Troi to be kind of a drag? Whatever happened to all that holo-rights stuff? Is “Life Line” GOOD… or is it GARBAGE?
Captain's Log: Stardate 44502.7 After three months of extended shore leave, the Apocalypse Video Trek Cast has resumed its duties in the Final Frontier with Season 4's Clues. And I am pleased to say that the store and crew appear to be well rested and ready for the voyage ahead. We anticipate no incidents in the upcoming episode, and can say with certainty that there are definitely no strange looking wormholes in our path… I'm your host and Captain, Dave, and joining me as we attempt to uncover the clues behind a minor mystery are fellow Trekkies Lieutenant Mike and First Officer Jackie. Topics covered in this assignment include Data initiating his “Liar-Liar, Pants on Fire” subroutine; Counselor Troi is once again victim to an alien possession that lowers the pitch of her voice; and finally, we wonder if the Enterprise being able to suddenly release chemicals into the air at any moment is a worrisome feature. This week we find the crew of the Enterprise on their way to provide emergency medical help in the Rachelis System, however they encounter a medical mystery of their own. In this season 2 premiere we are introduced to Dr Katherine Pulaski, who finds her first task as the Enterprise's Chief Medical Officer isn't to stop a plague but to see Counselor Troi through a surprise pregnancy. Captain Picard and the rest of the Senior Staff do not handle it well, but all is not what it seems. Meanwhile, Wesley Crusher grapples with the decision whether to stay on the Enterprise or join his mother on Earth. He seeks guidance from another new crew member, Guinan, the new manager of 10 Forward. Will DeAnna have a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby? Will Wesley stay on the Enterprise? Will Riker get over himself? Will Pulaski and Picard hate each other? Is Guinan the smartest person on the ship? Will they make it to the plague ridden system to provide the help needed? Will Worf overreact and bring a security detail into the delivery room? All these questions and more will be answered on this week's episode of Hailing Frequencies Open.
Ready for excitement? Adventure? Going boldly and all that? Well, too bad because the Enterprise D is busy hosting negotiations over access to a supposedly stable wormhole. Little do they know, one of the negotiators is ¼ Betazoid, the smarmy Devononi Ral, a professional player who has his eyes set on another prize as well, our beloved Counselor Troi. Ral and Troi engage in a tepid affair while Paramount dives into its archive of cloying background music. Hijinks ensue as the Ferengi crash the negotiations and poison the Federation's representative. Time for Imzadi Number One to step in and represent the Federation, adding a hefty dose of posturing to the proceedings. Will Troi leave the Enterprise to join Ral in his sleazy adventures? Will Data and Geordi be stuck in the Delta Quadrant when the wormhole collapses? Will someone please make this episode end? Find out in this exciting episode of ST:TNGeez!
Our Enterprise D gets a distress call from Delta Rana IV and when they get there, they find the planet wiped clean of its inhabitants save one small swatch of land and house where the last two inhabitants of the planet have survived. Before Picard and crew can say “what the fuck is going on?” Counselor Troi is stricken with a musical melody that she just can't get out of her head. An away team goes planet-side to assess the last patch of Delta Rana and find Kevin and Rishon Uxbridge just trying to live, man! The Uxbridges give our crew the run around while the mental assault on Troi threatens to destroy her mind. Just as all of this is happening, a big ass enemy ship (maybe the one that annihilated the planet) rolls up on the Enterprise. Holy Hannah, shit is actually happening! Galaxy-class drama is happening right in front of our weary eyes!
This week the crew of the Enterprise find themselves on a mission to save some of their own. Counselor Troi and Ensign Ben crash lands onto a desolate planet and upon beaming down the away team find their path to her blocked by a malevolent entity who wants to use them to escape that place. This entity wants to make everyone it encounters feel pain and sadness and therefore continuingly to play games with the away team and mentally torments Troi. In time, he succeeds in causing the worst pain of all. Will the away team be able to save Troi? Will we meet, quite possibly, the most unlikeable Chief Engineer? Will Riker take a ink bath? Will the crew lose an important member? Find all the answers to these questions and more on this week's episode of Hailing Frequencies Open.

"Now hear this. Now hear this. On this week's episode of Kirking Off, Counselor Troi wakes up with her brand new Romulan appearance, and she finds herself embroiled in a secret mission to whisk some Romulan defectors off to Federation space. An operation which was apparently spear-headed by the legendary, Spock. She has an unlikely ally who's haphazardly planned this op and he tells Deanna that she will be posing as a Tal Shiar agent. We do get to meet one of the coolest Romulans this week in Commander Toreth, who proves to be a formidable foil to this spy craft scheme. Lots of question are posed this week such as: how sophisticated is the surgical alteration technology? Could one have a prehensile tail implant? Would it be so difficult to medically detect spies appearing as other races? What year in counseling school did Deanna learn about the sensor net codes? And lastly, does Deanna get enough story love to make this episode compelling? I present to you, Face of the Enemy, from Star Trek: The Next Generation." I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we spend a few days on Planet Scotland are fellow Trekkies and Ghost/Anaphasic-Hunters Mike and Jackie. Topics covered in this spooooky assignment include the 24th century's acceptance of 100 year old granny's getting down with thirty year old studs; Counselor Troi asserts her position as ship's gossip hound; and finally, we all share in disgusted disbelief as Beverly Crusher spends the whole episode getting turned on by her Nana's erotic journals. We're reaching the home stretch when it comes to Season 2 of Lower Decks! This week, we discuss "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie," which unfortunately is an episode title that we had serious problems remembering (even though we were fans of the episode itself). We get a healthy dose of Billups' backstory, while Boimler and Mariner retread some old ground. After the episode discussion, it's time for another stop at Counselor Troi's office! Johnson shares his brush with personal injury (which may or may not have anything to do with signing up for a matchmaker), while Mike is looking forward to adopting a dog with Dennis. And with a puppy now in the mix - how exactly are we going to balance our personal / podcast lives when there are TWO new Star Trek episodes every week come November!? We would love to hear from you! Tread Perilously's month of Star Trek continues with the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode called "Man of the People." The Enterprise gets involved in a diplomatic mission when the ship carrying Ambassador Alkar gets attacked. Now aboard the Federation flagship, he immediately attracts the attention of Counselor Troi. But Alkar's mother warns her off, saying she'll regret any association with him. Soon, the mother turns up dead and Alkar bonds with Troi during a supposed funerary right. But is it more than he says? Does it have anything to do with Troi's rapid aging and unusual behavior? And once Picard gets involved, will he be swayed to Alkar's grim calculus? The Alternative Factor gets a new host despite a very similar voice to the previous one. Geography Corner takes on a surprising form as Erik and Justin discuss the places where 1980s TV directors could have bought houses. The presence of Ensign Janeway leads to an understandable tangent. The pair also diagnose a worthy Star Trek question buried in the failings of "Man of the People." Justin questions the value of freelance diplomats. Erik creates a post-realization to explain why the Enterprise isn't a purely exploratory vessel. Riker turns out to be the episode MVP and Justin inadvertently creates the Mansplaining Ghost.

#179 In this episode of Trek TV we discuss Star Trek: The Next Generation S04E10 - "The Loss". Hosted by Tracy and Vaughn. Guest starring Dustin, Derek, & Jared. It's time for special conceptual episode of Trek TV! That's right, in order to allow you, the listener, to truly feel poor Counselor Troi's devastating loss of a vital sense, we've cleverly made a good portion of the audio on this one rather painful to listen to! Or maybe it's just an unfortunate side effect of damaged neckmeat. Sorry! We're just a couple 2D (aurally) chuckleheads trying to get by in this crazy 3D world. Relatedly, this is another of several episodes we had to record together in advance, so we couldn't get any emails in. Don't worry, you'll hear them eventually! In the meantime, why not grab your favorite inexplicable crystal, climb on the most docile steed you can find, and call all your daddies (at least 50) over to enjoy this generally audible episode of Trek TV! BLACK LIVES MATTER Federation Council Members include: Mark, Nyssa, Nicole, Becky, Cristina, and Kent SYNOPSIS: Captain Picard must study for a very specific diplomatic engagement with an insectoid species, known as the Jarada. The last encounter with these particular people ended terribly for the Starfleet captain involved in the exchange, as well as 20 years of no contact between the Jarada and the Federation. The pressure is high, especially if Picard wants to survive the encounter, but Counselor Troi suggests that there is such a thing as studying too hard for something and that the captain might do himself some good by visiting the newly upgraded Holodeck for some recreation. He engages in a Private Eye scenario, playing the hero Dixon Hill in the gangster drama, and immediately finds the world the Holodeck creates to be just as vivid and real as the ship and her complement. So he invites his crew to join him in the fun! An invitation that Dr. Crusher, Data, and, as requested, the ship's expert on the 20th century, Whalen, are happy to take up. But the probe the Jarada send out to scan the Enterprise causes a malfunction in the Holodeck's circuitry and the captain and his companions become trapped inside the simulated world, where they find themselves on the wrong side of a mob boss by the name of Redblock. At first it's all fun and games, and even possibly a romantic interlude for Picard and Dr. Crusher. But after a stint under interrogation by the police, Picard (as Dixon Hill) encounters Redblock and his goons, who come in search of a mysterious item that will provide them with great riches. The encounter goes south fast, when Whalen is shot and, despite the Holodeck's safety protocols, begins to bleed out on the floor of Dixon Hill's office. In a race to get his injured crewman out of the Holodeck where he can be saved, Picard decides the only way forward is to tell the holographic character Redblock that he is not, in fact real, and that this is just a simulated world. Meanwhile, Commander Riker continues to try to stall the Jarada, who will only speak to Captain Picard and grow increasingly put out by the captain's absence. Wesley Crusher engages in a risky procedure to get the Holodeck doors open and the program to deactivate, and it works; but Redblock takes the opportunity to deny Picard and his team their exit, and instead decides this new world is his to plunder. After Redblock disappears into thin air outside the Holodeck doors, Data carries Whalen to Sickbay, with Dr. Crusher in tow; leaving Picard to reconcile what just happened for his newfound holographic friend, Detective Dan Bell. Lwaxana Troi is a treasure! This episode goes full-on rom-com with the impending matrimony of Counselor Troi to Teabag from Prison Break, er, Wyatt Miller. So many guest stars make this episode work as a comedy, especially Majel Barrett the First Lady of Star Trek. It's really funny to see Picard squirm under the ministrations of Lwaxana, and Data working off of Mr. Homn during the rehearsal dinner. BONG! Kate hosts this episode and notes the harp-core porn Riker enjoys, Jimmie G loves silver boxes puking gems, Greg misses Wesley & Worf but enjoyed the character work, and Erik recalls in excruciating detail the plot of Three Men and a Baby. The crew enters the 'mine' and discovers more strangeness. Jack Blaster acts like a pirate, C'lara acts like Counselor Troi, and the rest of the crew say sarcastic stuff constantly. Adventure!

After a week's absence, Mike and Johnson are back! They drop by Counselor Troi's office for a quick visit to talk about what's been going on in their personal lives, before sharing their thoughts on S3E2 of Discovery, "Far From Home." Tread Perilously's Star Trek month continues with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Season 2 premiere, "The Child." While transferring the new chief medical officer, Doctor Katherine Pulaski, to the Enterprise, an energy form crosses paths with the ship and decides to become human. Embedding itself in Counselor Troi, she soon experiences a heavily accelerated pregnancy. Meanwhile, an outbreak of plasma plague forces Captain Picard to allow a cargo of dangerous virus samples aboard. Will Troi's alien child disturb the samples? And will it ever admit its reasons for becoming a real boy? Erik and Justin immediately launch into a discussion of KISS as Erik's impression of Ace Frehley becomes an unlikely guest. The episode's origins as a script written for Star Trek: Phase II get discussed while Dr. Beverly Crusher's absence does not go unnoticed. Geordi's promotion is declared one of the show's smartest decisions. Justin recalls the time he visited the Next Generation set. He also marvels at how an episode ostensibly about Counselor Troi isn't actually about Counselor Troi. Erik both praises and criticizes Brent Spiner's performance in one scene and the pair try to determine what sort of New Wave band Troi's child, Ian Andrew, would front.
Today, Captain Picard and friends take a trip back in time, Shereese expertly explains how holodecks work, and we ask the question, "When did Counselor Troi become a linguistics expert?" Stay tuned to geek out with us!
