Born in Sydney in 1974, Matthew Reilly was not always a big fan of reading. It was only after he read To Kill A Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies in Year 10 that he realised reading could transport you to another world. Following this revelation, Matthew soon began creating stories of his own and set about writing his first novel, Contest, at the age of 19 while still at university studying law.Following rejections from all the major publishers, Matthew self-published Contest in 1996, printing 1000 copies. He produced a big-budget-looking novel which he sold into bookshops throughout Sydney, one shop at a time.In January 1997, a Commissioning Editor for Pan Macmillan Australia walked into Angus & Robertson's Pitt Street Mall store and bought a copy of Contest. The editor tracked Matthew down through his contact details in the front of the book. Interestingly, those original self-published editions of Contest have now become much sought after collectors' items. One recently sold on eBay for $1200!Matthew Reilly is now the internationally bestselling author of the Scarecrow novels: Ice Station, Area 7, Scarecrow, Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves and the novella Hell Island; the Jack West novels: The Seven Ancient Wonders, The Six Sacred Stones, The Five Greatest Warriors, The Four Legendary Kingdoms,The Three Secret Cities, and The Two Lost Mountains; and the standalone novels Contest, Temple, Hover Car Racer, The Tournament, Troll Mountain, The Great Zoo of ChinaandThe Secret Runners of New York. His books are published in over 20 languages with worldwide sales of over 8 million copies.Pre-order my new book 'The Path of an Eagle: How To Overcome & Lead After Being Knocked Down'.► AMAZON US► AMAZON AUSSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/thestorybox. Meanwhile back at the base, a freak accident exposes Hank to a dangerous serum that only Dr. Impossible can cure. Also, does a Witch Hunter have the exact same magical prowess as a mere mortal? Yes is the answer.

Synopsis for ICE STATION ZOMBIE by James Gurley In the frozen desolation of the Antarctic, a military experiment to regenerate damaged nerve tissue goes horribly wrong. The result is the Hades Plague that sweeps the earth, creating hordes of zombies. The sub zero temperatures render the virus inactive in Antarctica, but the weather is warming and in Australia, the winter has been unseasonably warm... James was born in Corinth, Mississippi February 19, 1954, a city steeped in Civil War history, from the Battle of Shiloh a few miles away, to the Battle of Corinth at Fort Robinette, part of which is in his parents' back yard. His love for history developed at an early age and has stayed with him, using historical events as ideas for his stories, often disguised by his imagination. James is a prolific author of several dozen short stories of horror and history, and about a dozen completed books just since 2004. We will be talking to him about how he works on so many stories at a time and where he gets his inspirations. http://www.jamesgurley.com/index.html
