This episode examines Genesis 2:19-25, focusing on the creation of woman from Adam's side, Adam's naming of Woman - Ishshah, and God's original design for marriage as a united, one‑flesh relationship. It also explores the distinct but equal roles given to men and women, the man's responsibility for leadership, and how Satan's deception and the Fall distorted God's intended pattern—calling listeners to repentance and a return to God's design.

I noticed in my small group that the men tend to idolize selfishness, while the women tend to idolize sovereignty. Men have a certain self-centeredness, and women have a desire for control. While these are generalizations from my personal small group sample, I do see some biblical connections.After the Fall of Man, we see a pull towards selfishness, self-centeredness in Adam. Rather than taking responsibility, he shifts the blame onto Eve. At the same time, sin introduces a new tension for Eve. There is a struggle over control and leadership in their relationship, as “your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”I was struck by these sinful patterns so early in the Bible. It certainly heightens my awareness of these idols in my own life. It makes me grateful for our Father, who loves us despite our familiar sins. It makes me treasure the Son, who saves us. And it makes me pray to the Spirit, who gives us the power to persevere.

Happy Palm Sunday Everyone!! In this episode myself and Brother Keith Cannon read Mark 11 entitled the triumphant entry of Jesus. Some of you may remember this passage of Jesus riding into the city of Jerusalem on a donkey while the people celebrated His entry with palm branches crying Hosanna! The same crowd who celebrated Jesus's entry was the same crowd who would later want Him crucified, they would later chant Crucify Him with anger. We also read Genesis 3:1-7 which is our main topic entitled “Adam Where Are You?” We see in this passage of scripture Eve is approached in The Garden by the serpent who deceives Eve with questions about the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, God's instructions Adam & Eve was to never eat from this tree. Why did Adam allow Eve to eat the fruit from this tree from which they were told to never eat from it? In this sermon, Pastor Landon Stevens addresses pride as the root of sin and the "anti-God state of mind," tracing its subtle forms—from self-sufficiency and self-exaltation to hidden insecurity disguised as humility. Praise Series #17 The Joy of the Lord is Your StrengthNehemiah 8:10 “Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”Right before this verse, Ezra the priest and scribe had gathered all the people together so he, along with the Levites and the governor, Nehemiah, could read the law of the Lord. All the people wept when they heard the words of the law. This is where our verse for today picks up. “Then he said to them, 'Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord; and do be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”I decided to go to the Enduring Word Bible Commentary as I wasn't quite sure what this verse meant. I wasn't quite sure why the people were crying when they heard the words of the Law. This is what I found on the Enduring Word Bible Commentary page, “All the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law: The word of God was doing its intended work. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us two things that the word of God is profitable for: reproof and correction. Sometimes it hurts to be reproved and corrected, and these tears were evidence of some of that pain.b. Do not mourn nor weep: Ezra, Nehemiah, and the Levites did not want the people to mourn, even though it is a good thing to be sad under the conviction of the Holy Spirit through the word of God. Yet if the sense of conviction is greater than the sense that God is doing a good and holy work, then tears are not good.Our knowledge of our sin should never be bigger than our knowledge of Jesus as our Savior. We are great sinners, but He is a greater Savior.Therefore, the joy of the Lord is your strength – even when you are being convicted of sin. When we are convicted of sin we know that God is doing a work in us, so we can be glad and take joy.c. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength: The people felt sad because they were aware of their own sin. But they could walk in joy because God was doing a great work. Our emotions are not beyond our control; we can do God's will even when we don't feel like it.They didn't want the people to be sad because even though they may not have been perfect in carrying out the law, it is ok. God is still with them. Those in charge wanted them to know that it is good to stop everything every now and then and remember the law. It is good to stop and examine your behavior and how you are living, and see if it is in accordance with how God wants you to live. However, if it isn't, they didn't want them to be sad and to focus on how much they were messing up. They wanted the people to focus on how great God is and how, no matter how much we mess up, He can still redeem us.The same is true for us. It is important that we examine our behaviors, the way we live our lives, and how we treat others, to see if we are living according to the Lord's will. Are we following His commandments? Are we loving Him above all else? Are we loving our neighbors as we love ourselves? If we aren't, what should we do? We should bring it to the Lord. We can apologize for getting off course again, and then let Him know how sorry we are, and then we can just try again. God does not expect us to be perfect. He knows we will mess up. He knows we won't always get it right. He is ok with that as long as we always repent and turn back to Him!Let's look at the aspect of joy in this verse. This verse said, “For the joy of the Lord is your strength.” How is the joy of the Lord our strength? In this verse, we can find joy in the Lord because He always redeems us. I love it when it said in the commentary that, “Our knowledge of our sin should never be bigger than our knowledge of Jesus as our Savior. We are great sinners, but He is a greater Savior.” This is such a great reminder that no matter how bad our sin is, our Savior is greater than it. No matter how bad we have messed up, Jesus's sacrifice on the cross still covers it. We can take joy in the fact that there is nothing we can do that is not covered by Jesus's sacrifice. It is ok to be sad that we have hurt our relationship with the Lord. It is ok to be sad that we think we might have let God down. However, we can't stay there. We need to then find the joy that God has given us by sending his son to make up for our sins. God sacrificed His only son so that he could repair the closeness that Adam & Eve lost. This is something we can celebrate. This closeness is something to be joyful over.Another thing I love that the commentary said was, “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength: The people felt sad because they were aware of their own sin. But they could walk in joy because God was doing a great work. Our emotions are not beyond our control; we can do God's will even when we don't feel like it.” This is something we all need to know. Our emotions are not beyond our control. We get to decide how we feel. In the moment, we can't always control our emotions. For instance, if you see something, you might instantly feel something. For instance, when you see someone acting a certain way, you may get upset. That first reaction/emotion, you may not be able to control. However, you can choose whether to keep feeling that emotion.You get to decide what emotions you are feeling based on what story you are telling yourself. For instance, I could be sad about what is going on with my son right now, or I could be grateful because he is getting the help that he needs. Or I could be both. I get to decide. The same is true for you with whatever you are going through. You get to decide how you will feel. Will you find your strength in the joy of the Lord, or will you wallow in your misery? Will you turn to the Lord and repent, or will you sit in your shame and let it eat at you? The enemy does not want us to know that we get to decide how we will feel. He wants us to just sit there and listen to all he is whispering in our ears about how things won't ever get better. He wants us to believe that if God wanted us healed, he would have done it already. If God wanted to lift us from this place, He would have. The enemy wants us to believe our case is too far gone.The enemy is a liar. He doesn't know what God's plan is any more than we do. He does not realize the importance of our thoughts. If he can persuade us to spend more time worrying about the “what ifs” rather than focusing on the joy of the Lord and all that God can do, he will have won the war for our hearts and minds. He knows that if we're listening to him, we're letting him steal our joy. Joy in the suffering is possible, but only when our focus is on the Lord and all that good He is doing, even if we can't see it. The joy in the Lord is our strength because we can always find joy in the Lord, even when all seems lost. We won't always be happy, but we can always have joy.Dear heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we love you, and we ask you to be with us in this hard time. Lord, please show us how to have joy in the hard times. Please help us to focus on you and all you are doing for us. Please help us to be grateful in the hard times. Please help us know Jesus's sacrifice was enough to cover all we have done and will ever do. Remember that each name represents a lifetime and a family: real people with real lives who either trusted in the Lord or who were stiff-necked and rebelled against the Lord. Reading these genealogies juxtaposed against chapters from Ecclesiastes reminds me that one day you and I may just be names on a list to those who come after us, but what the Lord accomplishes in us and through will not be forgotten by the One who formed us, redeemed us, and called us His own. (Psalm 8:4-9) Today we examine great questions connected to our own existence. What is man? Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? Only our Creator can give an answer. We must uncover what the Bible says. (0951250226) ----more----   Fundamental Questions About Humanity Where did man come from? More important, why is he here? What makes him distinct from the rest of the creation, from everything else in the world? And perhaps the most important question, where does he go when he dies? Now these are basic questions about humanity, and the truth of the matter is, if you want to get the answers, the right answer, the only answer, You've got to ask man's creator. Man and His Relationship with God When you start talking about humanity, it leads you very quickly to talking about deity. You've got to go beyond man to the God who made him. Because man is simply a reflection of the image of God. Psalm 8 and verse number 4, we read these words, "What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him?For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor. Thou made us tend to have dominion over the works of thy hands. Thou was put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen. Yay, and the beast of the field, the foul of the air and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever pass it through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth?" Biblical Perspective on Man's Creation When people wanna talk about man and build man up, they miss the point because as you study, man, it leads you to the God. That created man. Man is the crown of creation. He's unique. In the words of scripture, God is mindful of him. Aren't you glad God thinks about you today? And then the Bible says that God visits him. Aren't you glad that God visits you? That He desires fellowship with you? I think this is one of the most humbling passages in all of scripture as it relates to the way God made us. And all through the Word of God, God is connecting us to Him. Psalm 103, verse 14, He knows our frame. He remembers that we are dust. Psalm 139, He knows our thoughts. Yeah, that's right. Your secret thoughts today that no one knows and that you don't express, God knows them. Matthew 10, verse 30, He knows the number of hairs on our head. John chapter 2, verses 24 and 25, Jesus said, He didn't need anybody to testify what was in man. He said, "I know what is in man." Understanding Man Through the Word of God If you want to understand man, study his creator. If you want to know something about humanity, study the Word of God. Today we're talking about what the Bible says about man. Not what man says about man. Not what you think about yourself. Not what picture someone draws of what the perfect man is supposed to look like, but rather, let's look in the mirror. And the mirror is the very Word of God.  Genesis: The Beginning of Man We must begin where God does in Genesis chapter number 1 verse number 26, the Bible says, "And God said, Let us make man in our image. After our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. God created man in his own image. In the image of God created he him, male and female created he them, and God blessed them. And God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." Now why are we starting in Genesis chapter 1? Because you've got to begin where God begins to reveal something about man and his original intent. These are foundational truths to understanding ourselves. If you want to understand you, and you want to understand mankind around you, then you must go to God. I was in an airport the other day, and I was sitting doing some studying, and I had my Bible open, and my computer open, and to be honest with you, it was oblivious to what was around me. And a lady walked up to me, and she handed me a card, and she obviously saw my Bible, and she was a kind Christian woman, and she handed me a card that was a little promotional thing for a website on creationism. And I thanked her for it. And I thought how interesting it was that the moment she saw an open Bible she immediately connected that with the Creator. She saw in me someone that would understand. That God had created the world.  The Significance of Man in Creation So we've got to begin talking about man by saying God created him. Everything begins with God, including man. In the beginning, that's the point of creation. God created, that's the person of creation. And the word created means out of nothing, to make out of nothing, so that's the power of creation. We didn't give him anything to work with. In fact, God made man out of the dust of the ground and breathed in his nostrils the breath of life. And man became a living soul. In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. That's the product of creation. Everything that you see, God created. But the prize of creation. Now that's another thing. The prize of His creation was man. Why was man the highest creature? of the created beings. Man's Unique Fellowship with God Because in man, God created the ability to fellowship with the Creator in a way that is beyond anything else in the creation. Now the heavens declare the glory of God, the earth showeth His handiwork all of creation does what the Creator says. But we have the ability to have a family relationship with Him, to know Him intimately to enjoy Him personally. And that ought to make you think about how special it is that God has created us as we are. That's also the reason why when God made trees and birds and water, there's no record that the devil did anything. But when God created man, immediately the devil went to work. When God created this being that had the capacity to fellowship with Him as well as to obey Him, then the devil saw in that the ability to truly hurt the heart of a loving God. What the Creator wanted more than anything in the world was He wanted fellowship with His prized creation. He wanted fellowship with man. So these opening verses give us these opening truths. God created us. He created us in his own image. We'll talk more about that. He created us in his own image and he blessed us. He created us in his own image and he blessed us in order to make us fruitful so that we would accomplish on this planet what God himself God has given us to do. And it makes me think, even now, just reflecting, am I fulfilling what God desires in my life? The Bible says in Him we live and move and have our very being. He is as close as your breath, my friend. God gave you life. God has sustained your life. God has a purpose for your life. Don't just think about man. Think about God.  God's Order in Creation You'll notice that man was created after everything else was created. Why was that? Because God is a God of order. Man was only created when the earth was ready for him. Isn't that beautiful? He is literally the crown of creation. Everything that God created, he said, that's good, that's very good. The only thing that was not very good was for man to be alone. Gentlemen, aren't you glad God created a help meat? And he gave Adam Eve. What a beautiful thought! Taking a rib from his side. Someone said not out of his foot to be trampled on, not out of his head to be lorded over, not out of his hand to be manipulated by, but out of his side to be close to. Out of under his arm to be protected and close to his heart to be loved. So God created man and woman after everything was ready for them and watch this, just before the work was to commence. Reflecting on Our Creator We'll talk more about that next time, but God created man at the end of the creative week, just prior to the day of rest. And just prior to all of the work that God had created man to accomplish, I tell you, my friend, today, as you think about your life, as you take your breath, even now at this moment, would you ponder what a wonderful Creator we have, what a mighty God we serve. Indeed, the psalmist was right, O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth. Outro and Resources Repeating what other people have said about the Bible is not enough.
