Good morning, queers and weirdos—This week, we step aboard a ghost train made of flesh, bones, and brutal truth with our guest Serenity Scarecrow (BlueSky: @serenityscarecrow.bsky.social | Instagram: @sketchypete902)—a horror-loving, boundary-pushing creator whose storytelling is as visceral as it is visionary.Intro music by Jahzzar “Please Listen Carefully” “Jahzzar (betterwithmusic.com) CC BY-SA” and Outro music by Scott Holmes “Acoustic Indie Folk” @ scottianholmes@live.com.Editor: H. Greystone via FinalCut ProWriter: G. ThorenInspired by the classics of horror, Serenity brings us deep into her original concept: a haunted thirteen-car train, crewed by the damned. It's blood-soaked, metaphor-rich, and unapologetically trans. We explore the question:Horror can be a mirror, a weapon, or a scream of resistance—what does horror let you express about gender and identity that other genres might not?Serenity shares how horror—especially body horror—becomes a space to reclaim narratives often twisted or erased. Through transformation, grotesquery, and survival, trans bodies become sacred, powerful, and defiant. If you love queer horror, fearless storytelling, or just want to ride a train you'll never forget, this one's for you.

It's becoming increasingly clear from my recent chats on the podcast and all the ones that happen in emails or DMs that a substantial part of the glass ceiling for women working in the comics medium centers around the editorial level, but is that accurate and what exactly might specific barriers be? Now I don't know about you, but to me, you ask an expert. So, I reached out to Rachel Pinnelas. Rachel, has been an Assistant Editor at both Marvel and DC, has worked as a journeyperson across the industry spending time at Aftershock, Dynamite, and Serial Box, and was a Mad Cave Talent Search Winner in 2022 who I'm hoping can shed some light on that question we've been exploring throughout the month of March for the Women In Comics Feature on the show. If you want an accurate assessment of where things stand with respect to the representation of women in the comics industry, this is as about as real talk as you are going to find. We also get to chat about Rachel's contribution as a writer to DC's I Know What You Did Last Crisis Halloween Special with her Scarcrow centered story set in a theater, and what she's up to in the near future which includes an exciting comics related museum show that hopefully I'll get to talk about in the near future. I Know What You Did Last Crisis From the publisher In the blackest night, when the darkness feels infinite, the very fabric of the universe begins to tear…as every major crisis in DCU history rises once again! These eight chilling tales, set during the events of crises past, serve to warn you, dear reader: when in crisis, watch your back. In the fractured world of Flashpoint, Professor Pyg is stalking Gotham City's nightclubs, sniffing out victims! During Blackest Night, Scarecrow lurks outside a movie theater, recruiting new test subjects to perfect his fear toxin! Even heroes like Nightwing aren't safe when his death might just have the power to reverse the damage of Infinite Crisis! All these, plus new stories from Crisis on Infinite Earths, Millennium, Zero Hour, The Final Night, and Final Crisis are collected in DC's I Know What You Did Last Crisis, a deadly new horror anthology coming to haunt you this fall! The strange and still not fully understood deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife of 30+ years Betsy Arakawa may unsettle us for awhile or for always. But Gene Hackman's contribution to cinema is undeniable. Fom 1967's Depression-era gangster movie Bonnie & Clyde through Wes Anderson's 2001 comedy The Royal Tenenbaums, Gene Hackman captivated audiences with his always truthful electric performances. Secret Movie Clubber Edwin Gomez and SMC founder.programmer Craig Hammill talk the Hackman filmography from The French Connection to Unforgiven. Edwin singles out 1973's Scarecrow and Craig highlights how Hackman was great even in underrated genre movies like Sam Raimi's 1995 western The Quick and the Dead. Simply put: Gene Hackman is one of the greatest actors movies have ever produced.

The Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is a spiritual sound. It's coming from the highest position in the spiritual world. In another song, not the one I'm quoting now, but it says, "golokera prema-dhana, hari-nāma-saṅkīrtana," that the sound of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, a sample of which you can give now, that mantra and the name, which is composed of names of God, is an avatāra also. It comes from the spiritual world into this world, and by hearing that sound, it's very much like The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy got bumped on the head. I think it was a tornado, because she probably lived... Where did she live? Kansas. Thank you. I've got to know my śāstra. She lived in Kansas, where there are tornadoes, and after being bumped on the head, she entered into a dreamland. She was unconscious, apparently, as we find out in the end, that everything seemed real, and there was a wicked witch and there was a good witch, and there was the Tin Man and the Lion and the Scarecrow. Thank you, everybody. I haven't watched it in a long time, and a robot. And, of course, there was Oz and then the dog, Toto, that one I remember. It was a harrowing experience she had there, fluctuating between the good witch and her benevolence and the bad witch, who was sinister and scary—for me as a kid, it really scared me thinking about that. And on the journey, she came to know an incantation by which she could come back to her original consciousness. Does anybody remember what it was? "There's no place like home." I think she had to click her heels also. If anybody wants to correct me, go ahead, because I'm not fully studied on this, but three clicks of the heels, "There's no place like home. There's no place like home." And by that mantra and clicking her heels, she came back into her home in Kansas, and everyone was worried about her. All her loved ones were there, and that was the reality that she came back to after that harrowing journey she had through the Land of Oz. And there's a way in which the Bhāgavatam describes how we're sleeping, or the song I'm talking about is we're sleeping, and we're having these dreams about our lives, our life situation. Sometimes it's very scary. And there's a way in which we sometimes feel we've come into good fortune, and we feel elated, but then we lose that fortune, whatever it might have been for, due to circumstances which people can probably relate to. And it comes and goes, and then there is a sound that comes and a mantra that comes from the spiritual world, and the avatāra who brings that to teach it to everybody, the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, is a sound of home. You can hear your spiritual home. First you hear it, or you can hear God first also, because He appears in sound. It's the philosophy behind the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement, and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was teaching that the mantra itself is an avatāra, and by chanting it, we awaken from the dream and we come back to reality. Mark and Andrew round out February (and early March) with their final true crime look, with NBC's "Love's Deadly Triangle: The Texas Cadet Murder." Sometimes called "Swearing Allegiance," this tale of teenaged terror was billed as the movie THEY didn't want you to see. And that's mainly because its accusatory take aired smack-dab in the middle of jury voir dire, causing some Texas affiliates to balk at its airing. But, Mark and Andrew don't care none for the courts and will render their own verdict on this controversial retelling. Listen in, how about? ABOUT TV MOVIE NIGHT: TV Movie Night is a podcast featuring TV what-have-yous Andrew Krukowski and Mark Gonzales diving into the retro world of made-for-tv movies. Each episode spotlights one of these forgotten "classics" (and sometimes without the scare-quotes classics), enjoying cinema on the small screen an episode at a time. Past episodes include landmark films like "The Day After," lost gems like "The Night of the Scarecrow," and odder fare like "Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus." Email us at tvmovienightpodcast@gmail.com.

In this episode, we delve into the age-old debate of nature versus nurture and its impact on our temperament. Discover the findings of an eighty-year Harvard happiness study, revealing that 50% of our happiness capacity is determined by our temperament, which is set at birth. Despite this, we often focus on changing our circumstances rather than accepting our inherent strengths. We explore how temperament influences our reactions to life's challenges and how understanding our children's temperament is crucial for effective parenting. Drawing from real-life examples and psychological research, we examine how temperament manifests from infancy and shapes our experiences and interactions. From fussy babies to strong-willed toddlers, each child exhibits unique traits that remain consistent throughout their lives. Join us as we explore the four main personality patterns: Cooperators (Ox), and (Human) Challengers (Lion), and (Scarecrows). Through anecdotes and character analyses from literature, such as "The Wizard of Oz," we gain insight into the characteristics and motivations of each personality type. Don't miss out on practical tips for parenting and fostering harmony within your family, tailored to the specific needs of each personality pattern. Tune in to gain a deeper understanding of nature versus nurture and its profound impact on our lives. The next sequel we will discuss is "Messengers 2: The Scarecrow". For it, I chatted with the writer of the sequel, Todd Farmer, who also wrote the original. Todd talked about his journey from Kentucky to Hollywood to now living in a castle in Portugal. We talked about how having a buddy in college who was friend's with a writer was a big turning point. We talked about coming up the idea for Jason X, acting in some of his films, the difficulty of writing a remake, a writer's day to day on set, owning a castle, and more.Watch the unedited video interview at sequelsonly.com/ToddFarmerTodd's IMDb https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0267805/Your homework is to watch "Messengers 2: The Scarecrow" for free on Tubi... True Crime February continues with "Beauty's Revenge," sometimes called "Midwest Obsession." Mark and Andrew craft up their finest hot dish and delve into the world of murder, mystery and dairy princesses in this pulpy tale of revenge. "Melrose Place's" Courtney Thorne Smith and "Growing Pains" Tracey Gold square off over the love of one dumb cowtown hunk, but can it really be about the Midwest if not a single person plays euchre? I think not. Listen in, how about? ABOUT TV MOVIE NIGHT: TV Movie Night is a podcast featuring TV what-have-yous Andrew Krukowski and Mark Gonzales diving into the retro world of made-for-tv movies. Your Tin Men of trivia are back for round two of their epic deep dive into the making of the most watched movie in history. On this episode, you’ll learn about the hellish production, which ended up injuring, maiming (or, at very least, psychologically harming) at nearly every member of the cast. The Scarecrow was nearly set on fire — but he was saved from his costume made of asbestos. The Wicked Witch actually WAS set on fire, and the frantic crew had to scrub down her freshly-burned skin with alcohol. A “heavily medicated” Judy Garland was emotionally abused by everyone from the studio execs on down — all for the name of MOVIE MAGIC! The wildly-expensive lightening caused brown-outs all over LA, the tornado sequence nearly choked the SFX team, and then there were the poor prop masters who made fake glass out of liquid mercury. Between the accidentals, constantly revolving cast of writers and directors, and the outbreak of World War II, ‘The Wizard of Oz’ should have been a complete and utter disaster. How did it become a top tier classic, with special resonance within the LGBTQ community? Why does Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' sync up so well with the film? Did a distraught Munchkin actor really hang themselves in the middle of a scene? Take a listen, and all the answers will be revealed! Follow the flying monkeys of facts down the Yellow Brick Road for an episode that’s Toto-ly packed with 'Wizard of Oz' trivia! In part one of the TMI’s guy’s epic two-fer on children’s cinematic classic, you’ll hear all about the origins of the original book and how author L. Frank Baum’s (who, it’s worth noting, was bullied by theater people) was inspired by office supplies, family tragedy and his childhood nightmares to develop the magical series. You'll also learn why MGM greenlit the budget-busting production to compete with the world beating success of Walt Disney's 'Snow White,' the biggest blockbuster in history at the time. This episode focuses on the cast of 'Oz,' nearly all of whom were tortured physically and psychologically. Special shout-out to original Tin Man Buddy Ebsen, who nearly died due to his wildly unsafe makeup. There's also the truly disgusting costumes required for the Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion, and the trials and tribulations of being a Munchkin on the set. (Spoiler: there were no Munchkin orgies.) The TMI duo also explain why The Wicked Witch of the West was actually the loveliest person in the production, why Toto is buried under LA's 101 freeway, and why the Ruby Slippers led to a 13-year FBI manhunt. Plus, prepare to get really bummed out when you learn about Judy Garland's childhood and all the drugs she was (allegedly) being fed by her mom. Yes, the movie making experience was less than wonderful for the cast, but the episode's pretty great. Jason Teasley, Chae Tate and Mark Radulich review movies currently on streaming services: The Wiz/Purple Rain/DreamGirls Movie Review! First up is The Wiz (1978). Then we move on to Purple Rain (1984). Finally we review Dreamgirls (2006).The Wiz is a 1978 American musical fantasy adventure film directed by Sidney Lumet. Adapted from the 1974 Broadway musical, the film reimagines the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum with an African American cast. Dorothy, a 24-year-old teacher from Harlem, is magically transported to the urban-fantasy Land of Oz. On her travels seeking help from the mysterious Wiz, Dorothy befriends a Scarecrow, a robot called Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion. The Wiz was theatrically released the following year on October 24, 1978, to critical and commercial failure. The film received generally negative reviews from critics, with many unfavorably comparing the film to its source material. Some critics criticized the casting of Ross as Dorothy, while others criticized the direction of Lumet, who was considered a poor choice for directing a musical. Despite its initial failure, critics have become more favorable in recent years, and it has become a cult classic among audiences, Ross's fanbase, Jackson's fanbase and Oz enthusiasts.Purple Rain is a 1984 American romantic rock musical drama film scored by and starring Prince in his acting debut. Developed to showcase his talents, it contains several concert sequences, featuring Prince and his band The Revolution. The film is directed by Albert Magnoli, who later became Prince's manager, from a screenplay by Magnoli and William Blinn. The cast also features Apollonia Kotero, Morris Day, Olga Karlatos and Clarence Williams III.It grossed $70.3 million worldwide, against its $7.2 million budget. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. Publications and critics have regarded Purple Rain as one of the greatest musical films. In 2019, the film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".Dreamgirls is a 2006 American musical drama film written and directed by Bill Condon and jointly produced and released by DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures. Adapted from the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name, Dreamgirls is a film à clef, a work of fiction taking strong inspiration from the history of the Motown record label and its superstar act the Supremes. The story follows the history and evolution of American R&B music during the 1960s and 1970s through the eyes of a Detroit girl group known as "The Dreams" and their manipulative record executive. The film adaptation features an ensemble cast, starring Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles and Eddie Murphy with Jennifer Hudson, Danny Glover, Anika Noni Rose and Keith Robinson in supporting roles. In addition to the original compositions by composer Henry Krieger and lyricist Tom Eyen, four new songs, composed by Krieger with various lyricists, were added for the film. The film marks the acting debut of Hudson, a former American Idol contestant.Dreamgirls debuted in four special road show engagements starting on December 4, 2006, before its nationwide release on December 15, 2006. With a production budget of $80 million, Dreamgirls is one of the most expensive films to feature a predominant African-American starring cast in American film history. The film received positive reviews from critics, who particularly praised Condon's direction, the soundtrack, costume and production design, and performances of the cast, in particular Hudson and Murphy, and was also a commercial success, grossing $155.4 million worldwide.[4] At the 79th Academy Awards, the film received a leading eight nominations, winning Best Supporting Actress (for Hudson), and Best Sound Mixing. At the 64th Golden Globe Awards, it won three awards, including for the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
