This week on Industry Tactics, we dive into the prolific career of none other than JG Thirlwell. From his early days as Foetus, to Xordox, composing for film, television (Archer, Venture Brothers, etc...) and much more, this episode is rich with wisdom for any aspiring creative. Enjoy!
The first episode of Hot Rodders introduces us to our main characters, brothers reunited with a singular mission. What will the future and the wastelands hold for our heroes? Only time will tell.Hot Rodders is like Route 66 meets Mad Max meets the Venture Brothers. It's an action packed radio play sure to delight the listener and transport them into a bleak future world.

Kind of a regular week on the show, and by regular I mean we talk about the Venture Brothers, Ninja Turtles, haunted dummies and drug addicted sea monsters.
Aug. 2-8: Harrison Ford's in danger, Ang Lee makes us hungry, Alfalfa sings, Dave Matthews craps on Chicago, horror on the open water, The Venture Brothers begin, Sharknado minus sharks, and we spend five nights at Freddy's. All that and more, this week 30, 20, and 10 years ago.
We are re-airing a really funny episode with two of my favorite friends/comedians who currently have hilarious Comedy Specials on Netflix right now! Check them out! Rachel Feinstein and Keith Robinson share insights into their creative processes, the importance of resilience, and why they continue to push their boundaries. The episode is filled with humorous anecdotes, practical advice for young comedians, and an inspirational message to keep striving no matter the obstacles. Special appearances by rising comedian Nonyé Brown-West add fresh perspectives to this engaging and heartfelt discussion with host Marina Franklin. Rachel Feinstein fresh off her new Netflix special “Big Guy” , if you have not seen it - go and check it out! She has appeared on LIFE & BETH for Hulu. Steven Soderbergh Amazon series RED OAKS, Judd Apatow's HBO comedy CRASHING. Her past credits include TRAINWRECK, TOP FIVE, THE NIGHTLY SHOW WITH LARRY WILMORE, HBO's LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER, co-hosting THE VIEW on multiple occasions, and several appearances on INSIDE AMY SCHUMER for which she won a Writers Guild award. You may also remember Rachel co-hosting alongside Shaq on UPLOAD WITH SHAQUILLE ONEAL. As well Rachel has lent her voice to Adult Swim's VENTURE BROTHERS and the phenomenally successful GRAND THEFT AUTO video game franchise. Keith Robinson Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Keith Robinson, is considered a comic's comic. He was a regular on Comedy Central's Tough Crowd; the co-host of The Wanda Sykes Show (Fox), His first hour special; 2014's Kevin Hart Presents: Back of the Bus Funny can still be streamed on Amazon Prime, Peacock and Tubi. Keith has been featured in films such as Trainwreck and King of Staten Island. After two strokes, and an extended hospital stay, during COVID, Keith marched right back to the stage to create his latest and most personal work yet, “Different Strokes”; his second hour special on Netflix. Nonye Brown-West is a New York-based Nigerian-American comedian and writer. She has been featured in the Boston Globe's Rise column as a Comic to Watch, as well as in NPR, PBS, ABC, Sway In The Morning, and the New York Comedy Festival. Nonye made her acting debut in The Sympathy Card, now available for streaming on Vudu, Apple, Amazon, and Google Play Always hosted by Marina Franklin - One Hour Comedy Special: Single Black Female ( Amazon Prime, CW Network), TBS's The Last O.G, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Hysterical on FX, The Movie Trainwreck, Louie Season V, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, HBO's Crashing, and The Breaks with Michelle Wolf
Today Adam and Lexi talk about reruns; media that is great when viewed again. Adam's voice is back and he seems very excited to subject you all to this. Lexi makes no attempt to stop him. Also Adam mentions rewatching The Venture Brothers. That won't be on Netflix until August 16th.

This week we are reviewing Twenty Years to Midnight, the 5th episode from season 2 of the Venture Brothers. All we can say about this episode is, "IGNORE ME." This episode has time travel, aliens, robots and Johhny Quest.
This is an audio remastered version of an episode of The Venture Bros podcast originally recorded in 2016. One way we're memorializing my late friend and co-host Steven Attewell is by improving the audio quality of the earliest episodes of our podcast. Here's a favorite episode with new improved sound. * * * * * * Season 6 of the Venture Brothers: "Tanks for Nothing" and "It Happening One Night." Your hosts, Elana Levin and Steven Attewell, Phd. explore The Venture Bros show as a historian and an art history geek. We break-down the themes and references present from cinema, histotry and pop culture. While Steven is a Professor of US history. Elana has a BA in Studied Warhol A Lot (which came in handy for episode 6). Expect more then 15 minutes of famous references. * * * * Learn more about Steven Attewell: https://graphicpolicy.com/2024/04/11/steven-attewell-the-maester-of-fandom/ The Venture Bros Podcast archives https://graphicpolicy.com/the-venture-bros-podcast/ Steven's blog: https://racefortheironthrone.wordpress.com/
Mark and Jonny continue their rewatch of Adult Swim's animated classic, "The Venture Bros" with the end of Season 1, "Return to Spider Skull Island" and " A Very Venture Brothers Christmas".
GateCrashers is back with Season 6! With our return, we are switching new a new release format. From here on we will be releasing the show in seasons! Each season will have its unique theme with episodes and content reflecting that theme. Our first season is called Capes 'N Cowards. We will be taking a look at different superhero-style universes that we think are worth checking out! This season will include The Boys, Venture Brothers, Mystery Men, and Minor Threats! We begin this new season by kicking off with The Boys with Dan and Ethan. Ethan had never watched or read any of The Boys before we began preparing for this episode. We can promise that he will never be the same after this diabolically and rather... milky show. Dan was practically raised by Garth Ennis comics so he has been very excited to finally get to a fantastic adaptation that we think is worth your time to check out. The Boys follows a group of unlikely non-superpowered individuals as they do everything they can to get their brand of revenge against The Seven and Vought. The superheroes of this world are unlike any other because they are mostly the worst humanity has to offer with corporate backing. There is also a lot of Billy Joel so that is a huge plus for any show. The show's first 3 seasons and the spin-offs are available for streaming on Prime Video. Join us as Dan talks about all of The Boys skins in Call of Duty and we try to stay on topic as we talk about this week's topic. Be sure to leave us a review on any platform where you listen and subscribe. Those both help us tremendously find new listeners to help them find things that could bring them joy like it brings up.
This week we watched, A Very Venture Christmas from season 1 of the Venture Bros. The guys talk about their favorite Christmas movies, Christmas songs and much much more.

A very talented, versatile, and witty performer with more than 150 credit listings on IMDb, as an actor, today's guest James Urbaniak has brought to life such memorable characters as Dr. Venture on Adult Swim's The Venture Brothers, the scene-stealing Arthur (who was my favorite character) on Hulu's Difficult People, and Grant on Comedy Central's Review. Additionally, he's also a podcaster in his own right and the creator of the scripted shows Getting On With James Urbaniak, A Night Called Tomorrow, and I Will Never Lie to You. Reuniting with James for the first time since I was lucky enough to hang out with him in Los Angeles (which occurred shortly after we recorded the podcast's 150th episode devoted to actress Faye Dunaway), this time, James and I take a look at the fascinating life and career of the gifted yet today, largely overlooked filmmaker George Stevens. Analyzing the groundbreaking classic films GUNGA DIN, THE MORE THE MERRIER, A PLACE IN THE SUN, SHANE, and THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, in this eighty-minute episode, you'll hear us discuss not only the recurring themes and motifs we see throughout his oeuvre but also pay particular attention to key scenes, riveting performances, & memorable directorial choices that make them work so extraordinarily well. Other honorable mentions this week go to; The Keira Knightley-led “Boston Strangler” on Hulu, “Moving On,” which reunites Lily Tomlin & Jane Fonda, “Agent Elvis” on Netflix (which feels like if the creators of "Venture Brothers" decided to make Elvis a secret agent) and finally the Adam Driver space & dinosaur action film “65”, which did not screen for critics. Today we are proud to present the first fiction podcast created by me, Joseph Fink, and my Night Vale co-creator Jeffrey Cranor since Welcome to Night Vale. It is called Unlicensed and we are about to play you the first episode. This is a project that is very close to my heart, and one that we have been working on for years. All twelve episodes of the first season are available right now only on Audible. There is a free trial, so feel free to use that to listen to it at audible.com/unlicensed. That said, I have spent the last two years listening to Audible Originals and here are a few personal recommendations if you want to keep exploring once you're there: Hot White Heist - A very queer, very funny heist story that's premise is too explicit for me to say here. Featuring more celebrity voices than I can list, it's the kind of show where Tony Kushner shows up as himself to give a 5 minute monologue on how he thinks the story is going so far. I Will Never Lie to You - A 70s road trip written by Brie Williams, frequent Night Vale writer and also writer on Unlicensed, along with James Urbaniak, of Venture Brothers and Night Vale, who also stars in it. A funny and sweet two hours of your time. Romance Road Test - Two real Brooklyn women and their real husbands try out real romantic advice in their relationships and record what happens. Everyone involved is candid and charming, and it's a lot of fun. I listened to this one in the car with my wife. Hear all episodes of Unlicensed and a bunch of other cool shows at audible.com/unlicensed.

JG Thirlwell was cool enough to to sit down with us for a deep look into his world of sound. Thirlwell has worked with everyone form Steven Stapleton and Coil to scoring "The Venture Brothers" and "Archer" television shows, not to mention his own hefty discography as Foetus, Steroid Maximus, Xordox and so much more. It was incredible to hear stories from his entire history as well as what's being planned for the future. Prepare to enter Pigdom Come.
We're here, the end of the Venture Bros. for now. Hopefully. As long as that WB merger doesn't shake everything up and kill the movie. But we're going to think positive for now, and cover the DVD extras, read your responses to season 7, and offer up our firsts and worsts. Thank you so much for listening! Here we are at the end of the series, what was regrettably the finale before the movie was announced. It's time for the Monarch to ascend to a Level Ten villain status, and the Guild puts on a big show about Saphrax and Altheaus, the original villain and henchman, to commemorate it. It's... incongruous. Meanwhile, Dean shares sweet moments with a comatose Hank, while Hank ventures through a psychedelic mindscape, and Brock slaughters tens of henchmen for the first time in a long time. A strange blizzard has overtaken New York, and the OSI and the Guild must partner up to stop the culprits: The Peril Partnership. Rusty and Billy head to the skies to stop the weather machine, while 21 and the Monarch head to the leader's compound. Meanwhile, Hank ventures out into the snow to find Sirena, who isn't responding to his texts... but he'll end up wishing he'd left that stone unturned. Jeremy returns to cover for Gary while he recovers from Covid, and we talk about this fun, Guild-focused episode where the Council takes on their final arches. It's a series of vignettes as they settle their old grudges, and Dr. Mrs. the Monarch's final arch happens to be Novia, a black widow who Rusty happens to be (foolishly) courting. This week, Jeremy joins Kole to talk about a very good episode of this television show, "The Unicorn in Captivity". Rusty manages to invent teleportation, which draws the attention of unsavory characters. Meanwhile, the Monarch reluctantly joins a heist crew led by Copy Cat. Jeremy will be back next week, and Gary will be returning from his Covid break the week after that! Hey everyone! Announcement time. Gary caught Covid-19 and circumstances conspired to make it so we can't have a show this week. To give him time to recover, we're skipping this week, and I (Kole) will be hosting the next two episodes of the show with special guest Jeremy Greer, of Days of Future Cast and His Kingdom Keeps. We hate missing episodes of the show, and we really try not to make a habit of it. We apologize for not having new content for you this week, and we thank you for whatever patience you can extend our way. A Level 1 villain has to start somewhere, and that's where the Big Villains program comes in. The Monarch steps up to take Augustus St. Cloud under his wing for his first arching, which is less an act of altruism and more another attempt to get under Rusty's skin. The result is a fun episode that's mostly jokes and doesn't really move anything forward, but we need those from time to time. Gwen joins us to talk about the Inamorata Consequence, an episode that follows the plotline that no one asked for: the secret romance between Agent McManus and S-464. But we do get some nice Dean moments, which has been rare lately, and learn what happened with Dermot ever since the Ventures pulled up roots. Just like every sitcom has the "learning the dangers of credit cards" episode, every cartoon must have the "rich person realizes they're broke" episode. Maybe that's just this and the Simpsons. Regardless, the Monarch learns that he's broke after completely renovating his parents' condemned mansion, and now he has to work the steps to get back on his feet. This involves finding his way back into Dean's life, even though the boy just escaped his father's clutches to live in the dorms at Stuyvesant University. The Morphic Trilogy draws to a close as all of our players converge on the lobby of VenTech Tower. This episode is mostly flashbacks and dream sequences, illuminating some of the most important secrets in the backstory of the Venture Bros. universe. While the Ventures are trying to solve the curse of the haunted PROBLEM, the Monarch gets in way over his head with Wide Wale. Attempting to cinch the arching rights for Rusty gets the Monarch kidnapped, and it's up to 21 and Dr. Mrs. the Monarch to try and extract him from a delicate situation. Meanwhile, Enrico Matassa is back on the scene... The seventh season of the Venture Bros. is a weird one in that it begins with what is, effectively, a Venture Bros. movie known as the Morphic Trilogy. The first part, this episode, deals with an apparent haunting at VenTech Tower, the efforts of Rusty's friends to stop it, and the revelation of a horrible secret that goes back to the very beginnings of the show.
