Affirmations are powerful, yet, if our core beliefs are incongruent, or not in alignment with our affirming, mayhem is likely. This episode explores the problem with affirmations, without doing the deeper healing work that drives our vibe, and therefore what we project into the world. Unexplored, healed and transformed limiting beliefs create mayhem and pain in our life. How can they not? They are by design limiting to keep us safe, and protected. They are there because sometime in our early life we decided to be adventurous, curious, playful, connected with others wasn't a good thing. Or we figured is our parents, bugger brothers and sisters, teachers or society said "We can't, shouldn't, mustn't, or not for us" Then they must be right. "After all, they are older, meant to be wiser and can certainly cause harm if we don't comply." Affirmations are simply statements of belief. Even our negative I am statements are affirmations. I can't, I am not ..... I am ..... in the negative, conservative etc are affirming a belief of what we believe is not for us. Therefore, to create and make the most of affirmations is to address the limiting, fear-based ones that are holding us back and uncreate the story and emotional entanglement/attachment we have given to the ideas. Previous episodes referenced during this one include: Wheel of Life - what is missing and what do you desire? Questions to ask yourself - what is important to you and what do you want? Value of Questions Challenge of change and growth How our beliefs dictate and rule our life Jung's Journey Quest into our psyche depths Subconscious mind - its role in creating our reality If this episode triggers you, reach out to your local mental health service. Fears, those feelings, and thoughts triggered that remind us of unpleasant and painful experiences. The times when we felt embarrassed, scared, ashamed, guilty, not enough or not belonging etc. These feelings, memories and thoughts show up so we don't feel or experience the same or familiar. After all, who wants to feel less than, scared, inadequate etc.? Yet, when we employ curiosity and are open to hearing the messages behind the feelings. The story was given as a way to protect ourselves. When we learn who gave us these impressions, to begin with why we chose to believe it to be true (family, culture, heritage, social norms etc.) explore the story and consider its message and its relevance to the now, the current situations, experiences and people. Being curious, and emotionally detached as possible, we can see things in a different light. We can make different choices and test newer ways of living based on the character we choose to become. Previous episodes mentioned and encouraged you to relisten to include: Wheel of life - to explore if you believe you need to sacrifice a part of life to acquire something different or more. Example love vs career, relaxation/easier life = poverty vs passive income etc. Questions you can ask to help identify your limiting fears and beliefs. Growing pains are felt when we start to face our fears and limiting beliefs. Quality questions to help you navigate what you would like to be doing, prompting your fears and cautions to arise. Psychosocial Development theorists explored how our early life experiences shape and form our beliefs and fears about ourselves and what we believe is a suitable life for us. Jung and his Journey Quest; Attachment Styles; Erikson If this episode triggers you, reach out to your local mental health service. This week's episode is on Cabin in the Woods, or should we call it the movie of a thousand movies? The film was written by Joss Wheadon (Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) and Drew Goddard (Daredevil, Cloverfield, Angel). The due apparently bunkered down in a hotel for three days to write the initial draft of the script. The film stars a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth (Ghostbusters, Rush, Men in Black: International) as "the athlete." The "virgin" is played by Kristen Connolly (Zoo, Evil, Whispers). The "fool" is played by Fran Kranz (Bloodsucking Bastards, Dollhouse, JourneyQuest). The "scholar" is Jesse Williams (Grey's Anatomy). Lastly, Anna Hutchinson (Power Rangers Jungle Fury, Spartacus) Two classic character actors complete the general framework of the film as the puppetmasters, orchestrating the doom of our campers: Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water, Step Brothers, Let Me In) and Bradley Whitford (Get Out, The Handmaid's Tale, Robocop 3). After establishing the narrative of a group of college co-eds going to a secluded cabin for the weekend, we find that all is not what it seems... Even after being accosted by a deranged gas station attendant, the team pushes on for the promise of a relaxing weekend getaway. Through an elaborate series of events, the group ends up in the basement where they unwittingly choose the method of their own demise. In this scene alone there are references to so many iconic horror movies and moments. There is Evil Dead, both in setting and through props, but there is the werewolf, wraiths, mutants as seen in The Hills Have Eyes by Wes Craven, a lemarchand's box referencing the Hellraiser franchise with its Lament Configuration, mummy, merman, scarecrow folk, and a snowman. They ultimately choose the Redneck Murder Family, which is of course a reference to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wrong Turn, and Hatchet. Later, we see on screen including an alien beast, dismemeberment goblins, sugarplum fairy, blob, unicorn, zombies, a "dragon bat," a giant snake, and so many others. You find that this is all part of some ritual to sate the blood lust of The Ancient Ones. These malevolent pseudo-deities are meant to represent the audience and our craving for new methods the macabre, madness, and mammaries. On the show, we even talk about the novelization and the visual companion, which revealed more monstrosities. The best non-movie monsters are undoubtedly the "snake pubic hair woman" and "woman with a toothed vagina." We discuss a potential superhero-style team-up for these two. On this episode, the guys sit down with Ken Carlson, Deena Ingley, and Emilie Rommel Shimkus to talk about Ken's newest project, Penny Palabras. After his sci-fi comedy “Dead Drift,” Ken shifted gears to create a “cinematic adaptation” of the graphic novel. The storyline is based around ‘Penny Palabras, a strong young woman finding her place in a world that doesn't always make sense. She's been troubled by the supernatural for years, but now a sinister Straw Man is stalking her and threatening her friends and family. Penny's not like other kids – she's learned a few spells and enchantments with the help of a local librarian. Together, they've found a way to banish the Straw Man. All Penny has to do is make a deal with a Devil, but all deals with Devils come at a price' (taken from the about section of Penny Palabras website). The show kicks off with Ken telling the guys about his new project Penny Palabras, an adaptation of a graphic novel. He explains that it was originally filmed as a web series that turned into a featured film that is close to being released. Deena, who plays Penny, tells the guys about what intrigued her to play the character and how she related to her. Emilie, who plays Valerie, Penny's mom, then explains what brought her into the show and her appreciation of the well written it was. Justin then turns to Ken again and what his selling point was for the author to turn the graphic novel into a film. 15:05 – Conversation around the vlog that's available to fill in the blanks for people that want to dive deeper into the story. Ken discusses the book 1,000 True Fans and how essential they are for people to sustain their art career. Talk then goes to Magic and Kens upcoming Magic Booster Draft for American Heart Disease, held at Little Creek Casino Hotel. Scott then tells the group about his love for growing pineapples and Deena talks about her first time playing DND and her first character as a Druid Dwarf. Emilie also tells the group about acting in Journey Quest. 29:41 – Ken talks about the darkness of Penny Palabras and his plans to work on a light hearted project after Penny Palabras is done. He covers how some of the lines were right out of his childhood and the emotional toll the show has taken on him. Deena and Emilie also talk about divining into the darker characters they played and the ‘survival skill' of actors as they move into the character and then walking away when they're done playing it. Justin then asks about what advice each one of them would give to people that are wanting to start out in writing, directing, or acting. 39:32 – The discussion turns to practical effects vs. computer effects and what it's like for the actors to pretend and Ken going back and adding effects after the fact. Ken covers the scene with Penny lighting the book on fire in the bookstore, an example of when they were unable to pull the scene off without adding computer effects to it. Brogan talks about his recent visit to Mexico and his adventure with meeting the locals. This show comes to an end on where people that are interested can find Penny Palabras online and their booth at the upcoming Crypticon. Ken talks about Deena's dedication to recording the show from April – September and where people can find the actors individual website and social media. Thank you Ken, Deena, and Emilie for joining the guys for a captivating conversation! Special Guests: Deena Ingley, Emilie Rommel Shimkus, and Ken Carlson.

What! Another episode already? "Is Christmas here already?" we hear you ask. Haha, no way, stupid, even better than that! It's Teaguesday! What's Teaguesday, you ask? Just listen and find out! Also, technically it was yesterday, but like gimme a break, I was busy. It's a shorter episode, in which we discuss the reason for the season, Hat Quest, how to buy booze, both Dungeons AND Dragons, the nerdiest thing we've ever talked about, and fictional languages. CONLANGS, that's the word I was searching for, GOD. Happy Teaguesday, everybody! Transform and Rollout: Not just for Mew anymore Dare to believe that NFR has survived to return for episode 4, as Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave Austen, Donald and Stephen take you on a journey through their latest round of gaming adventures. Stephen leads off New Business with the Recommended-for-Kairon dating sim visual novel Sprung, notable for being a DS launch title and getting snake eyes in EGM, which is somehow comparable to Phoenix Wright? Stephen continues with the PS2 version of Culdecpt (recently released in Japan on 3DS, coming out in America half past never) before finishing with the most unusual "game" in history: a time-travelling Microsoft Office training program starring the infamous Clippy.  Is it a long-lost Super Solvers classic, or should it belong in the edutainment trash bin next to Mario's Time Machine? Donald attempts to bring sanity to the proceedings with a collection of games that would make Ian Dury happy: "Sex" (or the lack thereof) in Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky; "Rock and Roll" (along with several other genres) in the XBLA rhythm game Rock Band Blitz (thus continuing our 4 episode-long string of rhythm games); and on "Drugs" is how he feeled while playing NWR's Game of the Decade Metroid Prime (via Metroid Prime Trilogy). Austen then summons his pale horse for the genre-mashing Darksiders 2; brings us closer to the Matrix with Transformers:  Fall of Cybertron (a game that truly lights that franchise's darkest hour); and wraps up with further observations from the Vita-outselling (though at only 40,000 copies that's not saying much...) The Last Story, which takes a turn for the Assassin's Creed rather unexpectedly along with elements of...Quest 64? Well, the law of averages dictates that something would eventually.  In what other game can you receive a bag of money just for sitting on a bench one minute; a moment later learn to swim with the use of magic frogs; and then later watch with glee as your generic, spiky-haired swordsman charges head-first at an all-powerful villain (seriously, why do they DO that?) just to be swatted away? After the return of Now Postal Now Posted, Whatcha Been Watching has a little bit of everything. Stephen has a spot of tea while visiting the friendly Doctor Who, a touch of reality TV with the ultra-sugary Cake Boss, and LARPing with the Dungeons and Dragons-inspired Journey Quest. Donald has a report from the biggest TV party of the week - The Price is Right 40th Anniversary Special, and Austen shows his animated side with the first season/collection Blu-rays of Transformers: Prime (Hey, North American animation!) and Persona 4: The Animation (apparently Yu Narukami Charlie's a jerk now that he's been given a personality and spoken dialogue.  Who knew?) A staggering Listener Mail shortage and the Persona 4 discussion leads to this week's Feature Discussion on reinvention and iteration. Is there a time to do it right? Or basically, do you want Castlevania II or III? As usual, the 1Up/Poison Mushrooms wrap it up with discussion of issues like Zen Pinball 2's table install problems on PS3/Vita, the rows of black cats that apparently run past Platinum Games' headquarters every day, and how the enhanced versions of this show are getting out faster than usual. We're still looking for feedback and questions for Listener Mail, which you can send to nintendofreeradio@gmail.com.  You can also post in our thread on the NWR forums, or leave us comments under this post on our website at http://nintendofreeradio.podbean.com.  Finally, if you're an iTunes user, be sure to drop us a rating as well so we know what you want to hear on future episodes!  Nothin's gonna stand in our way of bringing you another action-packed intellectually stimulating ungodly-long episode in 2 weeks, but in the meantime: "Till All Are One!"
