Long movies with short characters.  We must be back in Middle Earth again!  After 8 years, Peter Jackson brought more Tolkien tales to the big screen and another epic trilogy arrived.  These Hobbit adventures were almost as awesome at the previous Lord of the Rings movies, and some of our old familiar characters show up here, but it's all top-notch action and CGI beasts done properly.  Sweeping music, slashing swordplay and a bad-ass, fire-breathing, trash-talkin' dragon make this a thrilling ride!  Let me guide you (and save you about 8 hours of your time) through all the fun and treasures of the Hobbit trilogy with the high quality dorkiness you've come to expect from Missing Real.  Pretty confident, ain't I?  Maybe my dragon name should be "Smug".

Gentle Jesus saved his harshest words primarily for one group -- elder brother types. A quick read of the Gospels demonstrates how often Jesus debates, rebukes and even roasts this group. Smug, self-righteous, holier-than-thou people do not tend to find Jesus very likeable. Yet there's at least one place where he publicly and genuinely appeals to them. He tells a parable that ends with a father pleading with a literal elder brother to come into the party where they are celebrating the return of his wayward younger brother. Yet he refuses. His self-righteous superiority requires rejecting his brother, his father's joy over his return, and anyone (even heaven itself) who would join such a party. This is one of Jesus' central themes in his preaching that is often misunderstood. Why is our superiority such a barrier? How could our distorted sense of 'justice and goodness' lead us to refuse the justice and goodness of heaven? Let's talk about why it is so much harder to recover elder brothers than prodigals: "Refusing the Party of Life" (Luke 15:1-2,11-32).

And that the fossil records prove an evolutionary process was at work to produce all life forms on the earth?” Smug, confident and imperious at this point. Our scoffer has made his point. Then you speak, "Well, yes to your first question and I'm not sure that is what the fossil records prove to the second question.” “You are talking Darwinian evolution and actually all you can show me is evidence of inner species development, not one large massive cellular explosion, unguided, unaided, that evolved from one single cell into every known species on the earth.” Feeling confident, you add, "There is not a shred of scientific evidence that can substantiate an argument for how life originated. Science can only observe what is and the process by which life evolved on a micro level." Our scoffer is now flummoxed. “Well… Darwin observed…" Most hardcore scientific atheists hide behind a shroud of doubt and avoid the big question, where did all of life form come from? The origin. The unsatisfactory answer is given, molecules bumped into each other and formed a single cellular life and then began multiplying spontaneously. But cells don't work that way. And where did they get the information needed for each added cellular function? I guess my purpose is to build your confidence in an intelligent designer who was the master creator behind all things. To believe otherwise has no basis in reality. To believe in a creator God is backed by science.
