Bob Onder (R-Missouri) backs the president's plan. Congressman Onder represents Columbia, Jefferson City, Ashland, Fulton and Boonville on Capitol Hill. Congressman Onder emphasizes that the GOP plan protects the most vulnerable with Medicaid, saying the elderly and disabled will be protected. The congressman expresses frustration with moderate Republicans. He says every time there's a plan to cut spending in Washington, moderate Republicans fall into the Democrats' trap. Democrats say the budget plan will hurt the poor:

Seven Republicans, two Democrats and Vienna Libertarian nominee Jordan Rowden hope to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) in November. One of the seven Republicans, State Rep. Justin Hicks (R-Lake St. Louis), has suspended his campaign. Former Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee chair Kurt Schaefer (R-Columbia) is one of the seven Republicans running, and he joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri." Senator Schaefer tells listeners that he likes the unity he's seeing on television at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and hopes it sticks. He's focusing on the southern border and the economy as he campaigns. Schaefer's top primary rival is former State Sen. Bob Onder (R-Lake St. Louis), who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Onder's theme has been he'll make DC listen, but Schaefer says no one listened to Onder when he served in the Missouri Senate in Jefferson City. Senator Schaefer also emphasizes the importance of oversight on Capitol Hill, noting the critical role he played in the Moberly Mamtek investigation at the Statehouse. Former Mamtek chief executive officer Bruce Cole was paroled from prison in 2018. Cole pleaded guilty in September 2014 to one count of theft and two counts of securities fraud, and he was sentenced to seven years in state prison. Prosecutors say Cole scammed investors out of millions of dollars involving a failed artificial sweetener plant in Moberly. Former Senator Schaefer blasted Cole this morning on "Wake Up", and he also criticized then-Governor Jay Nixon (D) for what he calls a lack of due diligence involving Mamtek. The seven GOP primary candidates on the August ballot are Schaefer, former Sen. Onder, Rep. Hicks (his name is still on the ballot), Arnie Dienoff of O'Fallon, Chad Bicknell of Arnold, Kyle Bone of DeSoto and Bruce Bowman of Jefferson City. The two Democrats running are Wentzville's Bethany Mann and Andrew Daly of Fulton. The sprawling district includes Columbia south of Broadway, Ashland, Jefferson City, Boonville, Fulton, California, Wentzville and O'Fallon:

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) says congressional redistricting has reduced the number of "swing districts" nationwide from 74 to 51. The retiring congressman joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that while there's a good chance the U-S House will remain in GOP control after November, it will be tight. He notes the GOP currently has just a one-vote margin. Congressman Luetkemeyer tells listeners that while voters in his red GOP district think former President Donald Trump "walks on water," voters in some swing districts view the former president as toxic. Congressman Luetkemeyer's district includes much of Columbia as well as Jefferson City, Boonville and Fulton. He says the swing districts are critical to retaining GOP control in 2024. Congressman Luetkemeyer also discussed the recent verdict against former President Trump in New York, describing it as "a complete travesty that makes a mockery of our judicial system." Congressman Luetkemeyer also says "it's clear that this trial was designed to achieve a predetermined outcome," suggesting it could be overturned on appeal:

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) will retire in December after eight terms on Capitol Hill. Congressman Luetkemeyer was first elected to Congress in northeast Missouri's old ninth district in 2008. His new third district includes Columbia south of Broadway, Ashland, Jefferson City, Boonville, California and Fulton. Congressman Luetkemeyer joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that he's most proud of his constituent services in those 16 years. He says he and his office made a difference in many lives, and that no one will ever hear about it, except for the people he and his office helped. Congressman Luetkemeyer's two district offices are in Jefferson City and in eastern Missouri's Cottleville. He has a combined five employees in those two offices. He also says he's proud of his bipartisan bill to reform HUD, which passed both chambers in Congress unanimously. While he hasn't made an endorsement at this time in the race to succeed him, Congressman Luetkemeyer tells listeners that it's critical to focus on more than one issue and that congressmen and women must work to help and serve everyone in their district:

Funding for the University of Missouri was a top priority for former Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee chairman Kurt Schaefer (R-Columbia), who served in the Missouri Senate from 2009-2016. Schaefer was only the second Republican in history at the time to hold that seat (Senate President Pro Tem Caleb Rowden is now the third). Former Senator Schaefer has filed to run in Missouri's new third congressional district, which includes Columbia south of Broadway, Ashland, Hartsburg, Jefferson City, Boonville, California and Fulton. Governor Mike Parson (R) and state lawmakers in both parties joined Mizzou officials in October to break ground on a $20-million expansion of the MU Research Reactor (MURR), which is down the hill from Faurot Field. The MURR is the top-ranked University research reactor in the nation, producing a medical isotope that battles various cancers worldwide. Former Senator Schaefer tells 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" that the University of Missouri is the largest employer in the new district and that, if elected, he will do all he can to help them and the MURR as well. Former Senator Schaefer is also calling for term limits for congressional members and is focusing on illegal immigration. Schaefer tells listeners that eight million illegal immigrants have entered the United States in the past three years, more than the population of 36 other states:

Eight-term U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) will be retiring in December, after 16 years on Capitol Hill. Missouri's new third congressional district includes Columbia south of Broadway, Ashland, Hartsburg, Fulton, Boonville, California, Kingdom City, Holts Summit, Jefferson City, Linn and New Florence. It also includes Wentzville and O'Fallon. Former Boone County clerk Taylor Burks announced his run to try to replace Congressman Luetkemeyer, during a live interview on "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" this morning. Mr. Burks tells listeners that he's the only candidate who's looking at this race from mid-Missouri, and that the district should be represented by someone from central Missouri. State Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman (R-Arnold) and former State Sen. Bob Onder (R-Lake St. Louis) are also running. Mr. Burks criticized the redistricting process that drew the new boundaries, saying central Missouri "got sliced up by some jokers in Jefferson City." National security is a top priority for Mr. Burks, who's a veteran. He's also touting transportation, saying service roads along I-70 from St. Louis to Columbia literally run out and that must change:

Incumbent seven-term U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) is not seeking re-election. The sprawling district includes Columbia south of Broadway, Ashland, Jefferson City, Fulton, Holts Summit, Boonville, California, New Florence, Linn, Warrenton and also St. Charles County. Senator Onder joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that he has 70 percent name ID in St. Charles County and 46 percent name ID districtwide. Former Senator Onder says he's switched from the lieutenant governor's race to the congressional race because the nation is in a crisis of Washington's making. Onder says liberal Democrats and what he calls "weak Republicans" are not listening to voters. He says he can win the race. State Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman (R-Arnold) is also seeking the GOP nomination in the race:

The Iowa GOP presidential caucuses are tonight, and the Hawkeye State is expected to see the coldest weather for caucus night in decades. Former State Sen. Bob Onder (R-Lake St. Louis) is in Des Moines this morning as a surrogate for former President Donald Trump. Senator Onder joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that he believes Iowa farmers will turn out tonight to support former President Trump. Onder says farmers are used to this kind of weather. Onder tells listeners Des Moines has received about 18 inches of snow and that your feet hurt to walk outside, due to the subfreezing temperatures. While he's currently running for Missouri lieutenant governor, former Senator Onder tells "Wake Up" that he's also looking at a possible run to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) in Missouri's sprawling third district, which includes parts of Columbia, Jefferson City, Boonville, Fulton, New Florence and St. Charles County. Onder tells listeners he expects to make a decision in the next week or two about whether he'll run for Missouri lieutenant governor or Congress. Former Senator Onder tells listeners that who we send to Congress is important. He blasts President Joe Biden (D), saying the cost of living for the average family in the United States has increased by $11,000 under President Biden:

State Sen. Travis Fitzwater (R-Holts Summit) represents Callaway, Montgomery, St. Charles, Lincoln and Pike counties in the Missouri Senate. He joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" and tells listeners he's seriously considering a run to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) on Capitol Hill. Senator Fitzwater confirms he's praying about the issue and notes opportunities like this don't come along often. Missouri's massive third district includes Columbia, Boonville, California, Jefferson City, Fulton, New Florence and Wentzville. Senator Fitzwater says it's important to have a mid-Missourian in that seat. He also discussed his proposed constitutional amendment to reduce the Missouri House's size from 163 to 102 and to modify term limits for state lawmakers. Missouri's current term limits allow lawmakers to serve up to eight years in both chambers for a total of 16 years in Jefferson City. Senator Fitzwater's proposed constitutional amendment would allow lawmakers to serve up to 16 years in the Legislature, regardless of which chamber. If lawmakers approve Senator Fitzwater's measure, the issue would be placed on the statewide ballot this August or November:

Congressman Luetkemeyer also discussed the House spending bill being debated today on Capitol Hill, which includes a 64 percent cut in Amtrak funding compared to last year. The congressman tells listeners he'll have to study that, noting most Missourians don't use public transportation. But Congressman Luetkemeyer says many people on the two coasts use public transportation, noting he doesn't have a vehicle in Washington because it's so difficult to find a parking spot:
