Io, the most geologically active object in the solar system, boasts over 400 active volcanoes. The newly discovered volcano, located just south of Io's equator, was identified in the first close-up images of Io in over 25 years. The images reveal multiple lava flows and volcanic deposits, with sulphur staining on the eastern side and dark lava streams on the western side.*Confirming the Mass of the W BosonScientists at CERN have confirmed the mass of the W boson, a fundamental particle in physics, to be 80,360.2 mega electron volts, with a margin of error of 9.9 mega electron volts. This confirmation resolves a previous unexpected measurement and aligns with the Standard Model of particle physics. NASA is calling all amateur astronomers to upload their own telescopic images of Jupiter to help the team plan more of Juno's mission.

Juno's orbits will pass over Jupiter's night side, providing even more opportunities for Juno's suite of science instruments to catch lightning in the act.

The Juno spacecraft currently orbiting Jupiter almost didn't have a camera, and boy would that have been a shame. Any time you launch something into space, weight is money. And when Juno was proposed and funded, a visible light camera wasn't really needed to meet the mission's science goals. But, thanks to the insistence of adamant Juno team members, Juno got JunoCam. Harriet Brettle earned Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and pursued finance before following her passion for space and going back for a masters in Planetary Science at Cal Tech and is now a Business Analyst at Astroscale . [0:52] After having a career in finance she decided to go back to school for planetary science and goes into options after college. [4:07] Where to go find more information about different jobs available with a Planetary Science Degree: Students for the Exploration and Development of Space and Space Generation Advisory Council. [7:20] Think about the skills you need in the future, and any STEM degree will provide you with skills that would be employable. She would recommend a Math or Engineering degree. [18:30] Best advice – Don’t be the person that says no to yourself. And a habit is being very organized and structured and a lot of planning. The Juno mission is studying Jupiter's interior, but its citizen-scientist JunoCam is returning stunning images of the largest planet. The ESA Rosetta spacecraft finds the Philae lander on comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko less than a month before the end of the Rosetta mission. Adding to the list of found spacecraft, the NASA Deep SpaceTracking Network located spacecraft STEREO-B. Hopefully future news will include establishing positive control and resumption of solar science observation. JUNO is sending spectacular pictures of Jupiter including never before seen images of the Polar Regions. JUNO is changing our understanding of the planet in dramatic ways. We again discuss the cost paid per astronaut for NASA to use Roscosmos to launch and return our astronauts to the International Space Station. So sad too bad. Speaking of bad, on September 1, 2016 SpaceX lost the AMOS-6 Falcon 9 rocket/payload on the pad during an engine test. Investigations into the SpaceX described “anomaly” are ongoing and as of September 17 no information has been updated on the SpaceX website since September 2nd (the day after the rocket was lost). The Talking Space crew talks more about this unfortunate “anomaly” than what we've heard from SpaceX so far.
