Interview begins @ 4:00 In this episode, we explore the enriching journey of Bea Gonzalez, an accomplished novelist, and facilitator of a depth-oriented women's collective. Known for her innate ability to weave stories, Bea intertwines feminine wisdom with a holistic approach to understanding the world, as demonstrated in her widely acclaimed work on sophiacycles.com. Our conversation starts with Bea's early dreams of professional writing, a passion that has blossomed into several published novels with Harper Collins and beyond. We investigate the significance of writing as active imagination, taking cues from Jung's Red Book. Bea presents the intriguing notion that everyone should write a novel, an exercise in self-exploration and a canvas to observe the interactions of our inner personalities. Drawing from Jungian psychology, Bea highlights the value of this framework as a lens to perceive reality. Its influence manifests in her personal growth and resonates powerfully within the groups she leads. As we navigate through the intricate labyrinth of Jung's Collected Works and post-Jungian writers, Bea emphasizes writing as not merely a craft but a spiritual path. We discuss the potency of storytelling, the exploration of the self through narratives, and the harmonious dance of the masculine and feminine. Engaging with the profound insights of Iain McGilchrist, we uncover the junctures where his work converges with Jung's philosophy. The dialogue evolves to encompass topics such as the inner struggles we all face, the societal impacts of shadow projection in politics, and the significance of the multiplicity of the pantheon versus the social value of a monotheistic god. With her women's groups as a platform for meaningful conversations, Bea eloquently underscores the importance of discussing and writing about these explorations, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas that spur personal and collective growth. Tune in for a profound exploration into the heart of depth psychology. Bio: Béa Gonzalez is a writer, lecturer, and educator. Her first two novels were published in Canada by HarperCollins and seven other countries [the UK, USA, Spain, Germany, Holland and Serbia]. Her second novel, The Mapmaker's Opera, was adapted into a musical by Kevin Purcell which was featured at the 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival. She is also the founder of SophiaCycles, a project aimed at teaching metaphorical thinking through an examination of classical works, fairy tales and myths and can be found on YouTube, Twitter and Instagram @sophiacycles. Today we finish a 3-part series on Media Ministry and the many ways we can use technology for outreach and communication with parishioners and non-parishioners alike. One of the topics that is most-requested is live streaming for liturgies. Last week AJay Holmes offered tips and products that could get a church live streaming quickly and on a small budget. Today we continue the conversation about live streaming, and dig deeper into the hardware and camera options that could be used for live streaming in church. Kevin Purcell is a pastor and writer focusing on ministry technology for over 20 years. He serves High Peak Baptist Church in Valdese, North Carolina and blogs at www.kevinpurcell.org. Kevin is also the host of podcast entitled Theotek, focusing on Ministry Tech Made Easy, as well as a vlogger on YouTube at Kevin Purcell. I found Kevin while searching for the best camera options for my church to invest in for our permanent live stream set up. His blog, like AJay’s, is well-researched and thorough for the church minister looking for support while improving their technological output for ministry. Make sure to check out the show notes of the episode at ministrymonday.org for Kevin’s website, and helpful links to articles for your church’s digital ministry needs.
"Vacanze, in Italia, per tutti! Anzi no, restiamo in regione".

If you were out in public somewhere, just going about your day, and you saw someone collapse – someone you don’t know – what would you do? Most people don’t really know what they would do, until they’re actually put in that situation. There are stories of people who witness something like this, and they just freeze. Or, if it’s a busy place like a public sidewalk and someone is on the ground, a lot of times everyone will just walk by. It’s an unfortunate psychology thing with humans called diffusion of responsibility – everyone thinks that someone else will help. And as a result, no one helps. Thankfully, not everyone is like that. There are some people who see a situation, maybe a person in distress, and their first thought is “What can I do to help this person?”. One of those people is Kevin Purcell, who you’ll meet in today’s episode. Kevin is the Executive Director of the New Jersey State Golf Association. One day about a year ago, Kevin was finishing up a round of golf, and he saw something was happening on the course. As he looked more closely, he could see that a man was on the ground. The man who had collapsed was Carlos Tapia, and he was having a heart attack. In today’s episode, we’ll hear from Kevin what happened. And I was also able to get a few comments from Carlos, to get his perspective on that day. Links to what we discussed in this episode: New Jersey State Golf Association Red Cross CPR training The Office episode, “CPR Training” And I also want to thank my friend Paul Kondo for connecting me with Kevin. If you’re looking for new podcasts to listen to, Paul publishes a weekly email newsletter that helps with that. Every Wednesday he highlights three podcast episodes that he has found interesting. Check it out at PaulKondo.com. I don’t know if he’s related to Marie Kondo or not, but his sense of humor does spark joy for me and maybe you’ll like it too. And if you’d like to join others who support this show for as little as $1 per month, you can do that at WhatWasThatLike.com/support.
