In this episode, Lance Cashion brings us back to his early days in the Orlando scene, where we learn how the Orlando underground ecosystem operated and hear stories about clubs like The Edge. Additionally, Lance teaches us the about the importance of strong resident DJs and how his experience in Orlando helped him build a progressive scene in Austin, Texas, where he promoted the Austin leg of the Delta Heavy tour and was a resident DJ himself.

Mike worked as the manager of Daytona Beach's staple record store Atlantic Sounds. Through this position, a 100,000 watt radio station 99.9 FM offered the opportunity to develop a radio show known as "Alternative Frequency". Alternative Frequency started to buzz and local nightclub Coliseum decided to sponsor the show, offering Mike a residency. A decision was made after three years, to leave Atlantic Sounds and dedicate more time to the nightlife and the sounds of the underground. With experience under his belt, and two partners with similar interests, Mike opened his first nightclub - Madhouse. As resident DJ, Mike worked with various artists: Kimball Collins, Chris Fortier, D-Xtreme, Rich Rosario, D-Love, Stylus, and AK1200 to name a few. One year later the group decided to open an additional short lived nightclub known as 3D. Broadening his horizon, Mike began playing to the Orlando crowd as a resident at Ultraviolet and winning two DJ contests in the Central Florida area. He later moved to the Midwest, and began playing areas in Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis and Denver. After a 18 year hiatus, Mike is back in Florida and has recently found himself back in the scene DJ'ing and creating music. The past genres of music played included a mix of trance, progressive house and breakbeat but Mike's current focus (DJ/artist) is primarily breaks. New original material is being worked on and set to be released in early Spring 2021 on 77Deuce Records. We're please to welcome back Sacramento DJ Orkid from Theoryon Records and FAF Crew in our guest series, bringing us another slamming set to enjoy through our quarantine. Here's what Orkid had to say: "This mix has a special meaning of all my emotions that I am feeling at this time in my life. I couldn't put a list together and I just played from my soul and how it felt. I hope everyone enjoys and feels my journey. I appreciate everyone for listening. " About DJ Orkid: In the mid 90’s Jenny first discovered her love for Underground dance music where she was taken by the sounds of Techno, House and Trance. She was intrigued by and admired the sounds of such Dj’s and Producers as IIO, Sasha & Digweed, Kimball Collins, R.I.T.M. and many more great legends. During that time of new music discovery and what the Underground Electronic music scene was all about, Jenny then found the sounds of her future and the sounds that would pave the way of things to come. And that was the sounds of Breakbeats and Drum & Bass. Starting in 1997, Jenny bought her first set of Turntables and set out to learn the craft of Dj’ing. It would be some time until Jenny would find her true self as a dj, but in 2001 her love for Breaksbeats and Drum & Bass were firmly established and with the help and thanks to a fellow Dj, Dj Alusive found her name and ORKID was born. Since then with her love for broken beat and four four styles of music she has set out to rock many dance floors alongside many up and coming Florida dj’s and Legends such as Rob E and Security, JG$, DJ Rockit, Brad Smith, Dmoney, NuOrleansPhatz, JRok, Versastyle, Andy Hughes, Def Jeff, Rich D, Jimi The Genius, Jason Brown, Merlyn, Leilani, Itchyone, 21 Paths, Deathcol, Geebo, Sandra Cruz, Funkbaby, Smooth, Brad Smith, Phat Kidz, Supergroover, Andres Martinez, Hootis B., JDub, Otter, Sisco and BBK. She has played at such places in Louisiana at Escapades, Post Office Club and The Brick House. And in her home state of Florida such as Suite B, Peacock Room, Suite 26. Currently Orkid is a resident for well known Dj crews, Sideshow Kuts International, 1200 Hustle, Legendary Breakers Of Boom, Funky Flavor and the Monkey Tennis Group (M.T.G.) where some of her ill’est mixes can be heard through. She also currently holds a residency with her husband Dj Rockit on Mixlir.com for their Sunday afternoon show known as Down Right Dirty. This is where you can hear Orkid drop her style of breaks and drum and bass to the masses on the worldwide interwebs. Her previous internet station residency station includes GremlinRadio from 2013 to 2014. Orkid is a fast up and coming Dj and she is setting the breaks scene on fire! Orkid is not only one of the hottest up and coming female dj’s, but she is just an overall Dj that you need to keep your eyes and ears out for. Her love and passion for what she does comes through in her style of mixing and in the brokenbeat sound she adores, Breaks, 2 Step, Garage, Trance, and Drum & Bass! This woman, her style of mixing and her sound is now and something you will not forget! More from DJ Orkid: Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/orkid713 Facebook: facebook.com/DjOrkid/

What if Aahz was still open and playing music from this decade instead of same old oldies from the 90's? What if? What if? A modern homage to the great sounds of classic Aahz without replaying the same exact songs from the 90's. In case you couldn't tell from the modern production techniques and mixing, or the fact that you never heard any of these songs at Aahz, or that none the songs on this tracklist came out before 2015 this is just a new tribute mix to the legendary Kimball Collins. And a heartfelt wish that Aahz was still carrying on today breaking new music in 2018 like it did in the 90's. Extended live set from the famously named 'Do Not Sit On The Furniture' nightclub in South Beach Miami, Florida recorded December 9th, 2016
American based artist ru·di·ment (real name Stephen Wilson) has been a DJ for more than 20 years. Growing up in Central Florida in the early to mid 90’s he experienced the explosion of dance music culture, and its rapid impact across America. Those experiences ultimately shaped and formed his life long passion in music as he steadily DJ’d until the early 2000’s. In 2006 he moved to East Tennessee where he would switch his focus from DJ’ing to delve into the world of Music Production. During this time he honed in on his craft creating a unique sound which in 2015 led to the inception of ru·di·ment. Keeping “the music” as his foundation and the core of what he wants to be known by, ru·di·ment has quietly released only a few tracks on labels like Soak Music and most recently with writing partner Kimball Collins on Talavera Records. While his partnership with Kimball continues to grow and take shape, you should expect to see many future releases from the two on the horizon. My live recording from October 2016 at Le Noir Nightclub in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Robot Heart On the Rise of Playa Tech. // DJ Three is a name that's been on a lot of lips lately, thanks largely to several successive years of extremely popular podcasts recorded live at Burning Man. But this Robot Heart regular, who dismisses, "playa tech is the new dubstep," discovered dance music about as far from the Black Rock Desert as you can get, in the Central Florida rave scene of the early 90s. It was a era that left an indelible mark on the America rave consciousness, spawning local heroes like Rabbit in the Moon and Kimball Collins, but also acting as an early port of call for European DJs such as Sasha and Digweed, and Paul Van Dyk, for whom cities like Tampa, Orlando and Gainesville were early ports of entry on their way to the top of the American club scene. Though he's called New York home for over a decade (with residencies at Twilo and Output to prove his bona fides), Three's eclectic brand of trippy four-four music (he once ran a label called Hallucination, now cleverly updated to Hallucienda) has made him one of those beloved DJs DJ types, with supporters like Laurent Garnier, Doc Martin and Damian Lazarus. He's able to speak intelligently about all shades of techno and house, regardless of their place of origin, which made him the ideal guest for Episode 30 of Rave Curious.

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground MovementWhile many people may claim to know Chris’ sound, with their focus on continually labeling him one thing or another, Chris is equally as focused on his efforts to push back the musical boundaries. It is testament to the man that he continues to develop his sound and musical direction, after all, as the man says himself “I just like to play good underground music, I don’t limit myself.”It is artists such as Chris Fortier who are inextricably linked to the underground dance music scene that are the genuinely pushing the sound forward. Chris’ determination to continue to push the envelope can be seen in all aspects of his career. Proof of this can be found on his recent triple CD compilation Balance and his recent solo production under the 40oz moniker and his stellar debut artist album As Long As The Moment Exits. The Balance CD genuinely offers something exciting and underground to the current stale compilation market. Boasting tracks from across the musical spectrum like David Gilmore Girls, Global Communication and Floppy Sounds through to Slam, Matthew Jonson, Rabbit in the Moon and Bent. It is little wonder the CD was name checked for compilation of the year by numerous international press publications.Under his 40oz production guise Chris has released the several EPs that musically could fit comfortably on labels such as Cocoon, Kompakt or Get Physical. Further remixes of Alexi Delano, Joshua Collins, Lee Burridge, Freaky Chakra and John Selway show Chris’ genre defying sound at it’s underground best. Taking this a step further in 2007, his debut artist album was released to countless plaudits and impeccable praise. Not satisfied with status quo, look for the boundaries to continue to be pressed and pushed with each coming musical excursion. With a DJ career spanning 15 plus years, he has continually been a crowd favourite, confirmed by his very first residency at the legendary “Aahz” in Orlando through to more recent residencies at The Cross in London and at Twilo in New York. Since a debut European tour in 1997, Chris has gone on to consistently tour the globe behind numerous singles, remixes and no less than 9 mix albums. You can catch him as easily in Tokyo as in Buenos Aires and all points in between on any given weekend. To those that know Fortier’s history, they know to expect plenty more to come, for those that are just getting initiated, Welcome!About Fade Records:Fade Records was created out of necessity in 1993. At the helm is American DJ Chris Fortier. Chris and studio partner, Neil Kolo, needed an outlet to release the tracks they were producing together. With not many options in the States, it seemed obvious to start a label and create the opportunities themselves. The first release was in 1994 called "...For All the People". This track gave them a voice and platform for the future productions. The next three tracks, "All I Got", "Separation" and "So Good" were more highly praised and received heavy support from the biggest DJs out there, including Sasha, John Digweed and Dave Seaman. Equal support came from the USA from Kimball Collins, DJ Icey and John Debo as well as the brand new Mixmag USA (which eventually would be known as Mixer). This great support put the duo on the map and started every label in the UK demanding their talents for remix duties. After several years of building their profile through remixes and the odd single, Chris wanted to re-launch the label in the hopes to help discover and cultivate new talent from America. Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground MovementAbout Fade Records:Fade Records was created out of necessity in 1993.
