Send us a textStrap in, degenerates. In this brutally honest, no-holds-barred episode of Ones Ready, we sit down with Recon Marine, The War Journal author, intelligence community insider, and potential future Ambassador to Afghanistan—James. Freakin' Sisco. This isn't your average “rah-rah” war story episode. Sisco takes us deep into the grit and grime of Desert Storm, recounts the absolute hilarity of rolling into combat with Oakleys and Guns N' Roses, and then slams you into an emotional brick wall with betrayal, loss, and the aftermath of trauma stuffed into a rucksack for 30 years. From saving lives with a handwritten journal to calling BS on the Medal of Honor fame train, Jim serves up reality checks hotter than a desert MRE. He even casually drops that he's running a global risk advisory firm, trying to be Charge d'Affaires to Afghanistan, and working on a freakin' miniseries with the Marine Corps. This episode is raw. It's hilarious. It's painful. It's human. It's what happens when the mission ends and the real battle begins—with yourself.

This week, we revisit the gut-wrenching story of Marie Versos and her mother, Debbie Cisco, whose lives were brutally taken due to domestic violence. Originally covered in October 2023, this update reveals shocking new details and significant changes to the law that aim to prevent future tragedies. Despite Marie's desperate attempts to escape abuse, the system failed her—and her death, alongside her mother's, exposed major flaws in the legal process. But there's a silver lining. Marie's brother, Alex, has channeled his grief into action, spearheading the Debbie and Marie Domestic Violence Protection Act. Passed in July 2024, this groundbreaking law mandates GPS monitoring for high-risk offenders—something that could have had a different outcome in this story. We dig into the chilling details, the systemic failures, and how Alex is turning pain into purpose with this law that's already making a difference. I'm honored to introduce to you today: Father, Marine veteran, author and writer, Family Court victim, whistleblower, and absolute warrior in a battle for his children: Jim SiscoJim was referred to me by podcast regular and investigative journalist, Mike Volpe, and has an incredibly harrowing and ongoing family court case he is going to present today. He has been in a 2-year custody battle with his ex-wife who currently has full custody of his 3 children. As you've seen many times on this podcast, the proceedings in Family Court take advantage of good parents at the expense of children and rulings oftentimes - and horrifically - go in favor of abusive parents. Mike Volpe's work on ‘The Imagination' and in his own time over the past decade has showcased time and time again how the court treats children as human commodities and how the court system as a whole functions as a child trafficking racket and criminal enterprises. Although there are many answers to ‘how' children are often trafficked through Family Court and CPS, there is no reason more widely used across the board than a judge ruling ‘parental alienation' as a means to an end for parental custody. And if you watched the episode I did with Mike on Parental Alienation, you understand how this is essentially a blanket term that has no true quantifiable definition. The scary part about Parental Alienation is how liberally it's thrown around without any consistency and how everything and the kitchen sink can be labeled as ‘parental alienation' when it comes to parenting - even a sarcastic comment to an ex as you'll see in Jim's case. The court rulings to strip Jim of access to his children has all but torn apart his life. The last two years he has suffered immeasurably emotionally, financially and physically - including having a stroke as well as having to dish out over $200,000 in legal fees. James was and is a loving and caring father. Every parent that has found the courage to speak out about their custody battles in court is a hero and Jim is no exception. He may be a retired Marine, but he's a warrior through and through. We are going to be talking about his case today to both educate and ask you for your support. I ask that you please put away everything you are doing and give Jim your full attention. Before I finish introducing today's guest - I wanted to give a couple reminders and updates: If you'd like to be on the podcast as a guest or share any information privately with me, please email me at imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.com. Slam the Gavel welcomes back James Sisco to the podcast. He was last on the podcast Season 3, Episode 176 and Season 4, Episode 54. This case is tainted with players who need psychological evaluations, such as the Judges, opposing attorney and ex-wife. James is suffering through three years of egregious treatment at the hands of Judge Thomas P. Mann and Judge Penny S. Azcarate. Azcarate incarcerated James for not paying attorney fees to his ex-wife to the tune of $65,000.00 prior to James having not only back surgery and shoulder surgery, a STROKE as well. The extortion continues as well as the emotional and physical STRESS. The "Psychologist for the children", Mary Lindahl, extorts $195.00 to "review" each Skype call James has had with his children. The Skype calls were taking a toll on James's health, due to the fact his ex-wife CHOOSES to end them when "she feels like it," as evidenced in Jame's TikToks. Like a demon possessed, she will whip that lap top around and away from the kids as she sits there, staring at him for a second or two and then turns off the laptop. But the court approves of this behavior, alienating a good father from his children and who needs to be there FOR HIS CHILDREN. Other reporters have covered James Sisco's story besides myself. Julie Haskell and Michael Volpe covered segments of this ongoing legal abuse and false accusations from his ex-wife at TAXPAYER EXPENSE. When will it end? There is a hearing on January 22, 2024, to decide how long the trial will be. James continues to be an advocate even after having a stroke and to be there for others who can't protect themselves. In today's episode of the podcast, I have Dr. Rhysa Sisco with me. She is a life and business empowerment mentor who has helped hundreds of people transform their lives by resetting their relationship with money, releasing limiting beliefs, and attracting abundance to live a life of alignment and freedom. Our conversation is a captivating journey through the intricacies of the nervous system and its profound impact on our lives. This episode delves into Rhysa's personal childhood experiences, marked by trauma and illness, and how these experiences ultimately led her to a deep understanding of the nervous system's role in our well-being. Dr. Rhysa's storytelling about her nine-year-old self navigating her mother's cancer diagnosis is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. Her resilience in the face of adversity and her journey to unlock the secrets of the nervous system provide a powerful backdrop for the episode. As Rhysa introduces her color-coded emotional regulation triangle, listeners gain a valuable tool to navigate their own emotions and understand the profound connection between trauma, emotions, and physical health. The conversation takes an enlightening turn as Dr. Rhysa discusses intergenerational trauma and its far-reaching effects. Her insights into the body's innate response mechanisms, the impact of past traumas, and the importance of regulating the nervous system are nothing short of revolutionary. Listeners will walk away with a newfound appreciation for the body's wisdom and a deeper understanding of how emotional regulation can lead to personal transformation. This podcast episode promises to be a thought-provoking and transformative experience for anyone seeking to unlock the secrets of their own nervous system and break free from the shackles of past traumas. Here are the golden nuggets from Dr. Rhysa on how to regulate your nervous system: Identify Your Current State: Understand and identify the state you're in—green, red, yellow, blue, or purple—before building a toolbox of regulation tools that match that state. Have a Toolbox for Each State: Create specific toolboxes for each state (e.g., calmer tools for yellow, more engaging tools for purple) to regulate your nervous system effectively. Practice Tools When Calm: Practice using regulation tools when you're calm, as it's ineffective to introduce new tools when you're dysregulated. Your body craves predictability and safety in those states. Look at What You're Already Doing: Recognize that you're already using tools unknowingly. Tools are sensory-based and can include everyday activities or experiences that signal safety to your nervous system. This week's guest is David Sisco. This week we have part two of our two-part brilliant interview with David Sisco, a New York based freelance voice teacher, and multi-hyphenate artist, whose work life also encompasses being a published author, performer, music director, and commissioned composer. In this episode, David delves deeper into many important topics relating to our singing voice community, as well as his own teaching philosophies.David discusses his intention to create a safer space in his teaching studio, by holding space for his students to foster curiosity, joy, and passion and to learn to trust their individuality and not be in judgement of it. He believes that as voice teachers it is our job to invite the uncomfortable, and we must all learn to fail better and not be guided by our own limiting beliefs of what we think the voice can do and what the individual student is capable of. Our biases and our knowledge should not act as a barrier between ourselves and the student. David admits that he calls himself a voice teacher and is not a voice scientist and that is ok. He shares, that as voice teachers, we love our labels and that as a voice teaching community we must stop shaming one another, know our lane and come together to uplift each other. As David says so beautifully, it is time to celebrate all styles of singing in performance and research. This is a most inspirational and honest interview with David Sisco that is not to be missed.David's Links: WebsitePerforming in Contemporary MusicalsMastering College Musical Theatre AuditionsDavid's YouTubeGualtieri & Sisco's YouTubeSoundcloudIn this episode03:33 — The True Master-Apprentice Model 06:22 — Essential Requirements in Creating Safe Spaces08:21 — Own Kind of Pedagogy in Musical Theater11:29 — Efficient and Sustainable Singing18:05 — Finding Stewardship for Ourselves22:16 — Establishing Teacher-Student Boundaries23:12 — Unleash Your True Self, Unlock Your Potential25:31 — Shifting Archetypal Essence28:03 — Rising Above Imposter Syndrome31:10 — Extended Safe Spaces for Both Students and Teachers32:25 — What's Next for David Sisco?37:15 — Piece of Advice for the Singing Voice CommunityFor more go to https://drmarisaleenaismith.com/83Like this episode? This week's guest is David Sisco. This is part one of a two-part interview with David Sisco, a New York-based voice teacher, who regularly lectures nationally and internationally on all things relating to singing voice pedagogy. David describes himself as a multi-hyphenate artist whose life work centres around exploring music, drama, writing, and teaching, finding great inspiration and commonalities in each. During this interview, David speaks candidly about his own personal and professional journey, which led him to an enduring career in the performing arts. He discusses how he developed his teaching skills, and that he calls himself an equal opportunity borrower because his teaching approaches have come from a variety of different sources. David firmly believes that we, as voice teachers, must become life-long learners and we need to invest in ourselves, so we can invest in our students. Furthermore, David states that it is important to honour knowledge and that as a voice community, we must continue to learn and grow together.During our conversation, David talked about his teaching philosophy and how can we hold safer spaces for our students where they can allow themselves to become more vulnerable and to tell their stories, with honesty and without judgement. David affirms that we should be encouraging our students to become more curious and explore the possibilities of their voices and allow for playfulness. Finally, David speaks openly about his beliefs regarding the status quo of voice programs within higher education, where students are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for a university degree. He discusses the importance of providing context in student learning and that we must help our students understand the industry in which they are pursuing a professional career.Remember this is part one of a two-part interview with the brilliant David Sisco and part two will follow next week.David's Links: WebsitePerforming in Contemporary MusicalsMastering College Musical Theatre AuditionsDavid's YouTubeGualtieri & Sisco's YouTubeSoundcloudIn this episode08:15 — David's Earliest Memory of Singing16:22 — Effects of Self-Sabotage18:30 — Mental Emotional Connection in Singing19:31 — The Importance of Sharing Your Voice With Students.21:12 — David's Happiest Time as a Performer23:15 — Looking After Yourself Before Others25:04 — David's Teaching Career28:14 — Benefits of a Student-Centered Type of Learning30:16 — “If You Are a Teacher, You Are Life Long Learner”33:16 — The Science of Teaching vs. Intuition.36:31 — The Science of Teaching40:53 — Creating a Safe Space for Students42:12 — Are Educational Institutions Equipping Students With the Skills They Need to Be Employable?45:21 — “Performing a Contemporary Musicals” Book by David Sisco and Laura JosepherFor more go to https://drmarisaleenaismith.com/82Like this episode?
