Keep Your Nose to the Grindstone and Eyes on the Rhinestones... a phrase and platform written by Kaelanne as she was preparing for the 57th Annual Miss Rodeo USA competition... so what does it mean? Exaclty what it says. If you focus on your dreams and keep your nose to the grindstone and eyes on the rhinestones (a.k.a. YOUR DREAM) you can accomplish anything. This struck me as an ah ha moment during the 2024 MRUSA competition and I knew, we had to chat about this! - Jessie Lynn® On January 14, 2024, Kaelanne Quinonez was crowned YOUR Miss Rodeo USA 2024 at the Lazy E Arena during the 54th performance of the International Finals Rodeo. A Sunday she will never forget, Kaelanne is excited and proud to carry the title of Miss Rodeo USA for a year, promoting the IPRA and MRUSA organizations and advocating for rodeo and ag across the country. Kaelanne is no stranger to horses and all things cowgirl, she was born and raised on the Central Coast of California, where she fell in love with horses at the age of 4. Her mom and dad soon found out that this love of horses and all things cowgirl was in fact not a phase and that it was a passion that was as organic and unexpected as the path she would take to Miss Rodeo USA many years later. Kaelanne and her family experienced a lot of firsts together: first horse which turned into horses, first show, first IFR, and first rodeo queen titles. Kaelanne could not be representing the organization and sharing her passion for the west like she is today without the support of her fireteam at home. She left her hometown when she was accepted into Texas A&M as a Master's student, where she spent a year studying ecohydrology and the effects of drought on ranches in west Texas and where she graduated with her M.S. in Business. This proud Aggie wants to use her education and first hand experiences to promote rodeo, agriculture, and western from coast to coast, preserving traditions and promoting the future. During her year as Miss Rodeo USA, Kaelanne plans to do this by traveling to rodeos in the US and Canada, speaking at schools, town halls and conferences, and using social media to promote the sponsors of and the sport of rodeo. Rodeo is a team sport: a team between roughstock and rider, sponsor and contestants, the organization and fans. Rodeo queening is a team sport. In fact, all aspects of the western industry require team effort and collaboration. Kaelanne is excited to be a contributing part of this team, of a family that makes America special and unique. She knows, and wants to share the message, that when teams put their nose to the grindstone, everyone benefits and can keep their eyes to their dreams (or rhinestones). - Bio Provided by the Miss Rodeo USA Association

South Dakota-native Billy Myers, 36, grew up watching his family's stallion Frenchmans Guy own the breeding game in the barrel racing market, and he saw how a great horse could change the lives of those he touched. With deep roping roots, the Myers family might have been the most excited breeders in the game when rope-horse incentives and futurities took off, giving them a space to promote their stallions—Smooth Guy, Mr Sassy Frenchman, Ima Special Kindaguy, Cowboys Cartel and Lucky Wonder Horse—within the business they truly loved. Billy, who manages the family's breeding operation in the spring, took it a step further and founded the Platinum Medal Futurity with partner Audrey Hart and with the support of Equinety. The event will run over Labor Day Weekend at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and its designed to highlight multiple levels of futurity horses while bringing together recreational ropers and the pros to build connections within the horse industry. On this episode of 'The Score', Myers sits down with host Chelsea Shaffer at his family's place in Wittman, Arizona, to talk about how he sees the trajectory of the rope horse market and where the Platinum Medal Futurity fits into that mix. If one good thing came out of 2020, it's the price of a good rope horse continues to climb—allowing more people to train horses for a living and support the sport of team roping as a whole. So to kick off Season 4 of "The Score", we want to talk about the trends driving the industry forward with wide slice of influencers. In this first part of our series, 26-time World Champion Trevor Brazile gives us his take on the forces at work in the market and where the market needs to go to remain sustainable. But this is a special episode with four featured guests, so from Brazile we move to Steve Friskup, who heads up Premier Horse Sales and is the horse industry's master auctioneer. And from Friskup, we move to Jann Parker at Billings Livestock, who has 23 years in the horse sale business (and many before that buying and selling herself) and serves a diverse clientele. We'll round out the show with Mark Smith, father of Clay, Jake and Britt Smith, who buys and sells dozens and dozens of rope horses every year. He's based in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and he's got his finger on the pulse of the day-to-day recreational roper. This more informal, but highly informational episode is what we hope to carry on throughout this season, as we celebrate 750,000 downloads of this show. This inaugural episode is brought to you by our long-time partners at the Cinch Timed Event Championships, this year running from Thursday March 11 to Saturday March 13. The event pays out a $100,000 check to the handiest cowboy across five events, over five rounds. You'll get to see guys like Russell Cardoza, Paul David and Jess Tierney, Erich Rogers, Clay Smith, Taylor Santos and Daniel Green duke it out in the heading, heeling, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and steer roping, and you'll watch it all in the world famous Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma. And this year, the Timed Event is partnering with BFI Week to host the ultimate roper's showdown. Less than 12 hours after crowning the Timed Event Champs, you'll get to see the best ropers in the game go head-to-head over the BFI's long score and strong cattle at the event's new home in Guthrie. You won't want to miss it. Get your tickets now at lazyetec.com, and we'll see you in Guthrie. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

SHOW NOTES: Q&A: Joni Muri (Current, Saskatchewan): I have a question unless it's been asked and answered already. I'm only on podcast 17 so not caught up yet. I have always trained my own horses. I do have someone else start them now but I take them over after 60-90 days. All my horses get a solid reining foundation on them before going to the barrel patch. One problem I have is taking off my training hat and putting on my jockey hat. How do you make that transition? I tend to babysit them too long and have trouble just letting them go do their job. Especially if I've been riding young ones for awhile and not running something seasoned. Any tips or suggestions. Keep up the great podcasts. Love them. Joni Muri Swift   Amber Christine (Mansfield, Georgia):I have a question for the podcast. To feed or not to feed on the trailer? After a rodeo I normally let mine cool down then load up and feed everyone in the mangers on the way home? I have heard it was good, then heard it was bad. What are your thoughts?
