Ruth Morse, Chief Executive of the Well Foundation, recentlyjoined Purposely to share her personal and professional journey, as well as the vital work her organisation does to support healthcare across Auckland's North Shore and Waitākere regions. The Well Foundation is dedicated to improving healthoutcomes for over 580,000 people—the population served by the Waitematā District Health Board (DHB), New Zealand's largest. The Foundation exists to raise additional funds for high-priority projects and initiatives that falloutside the scope of government funding. Its mission? To enhance patient care, improve health outcomes, and help deliver world-class healthcare for the community. Every dollar donated is carefully allocated to agreed initiatives, ensuring it's used where it's needed most and kept entirely separate from the DHB's core government funding.During her interview, Ruth highlighted the criticalimportance of community support, saying, “We're here to bridge the gap—to make a tangible difference in people's healthcare experiences.” This could involve anything from purchasing state-of-the-art medical equipment to fundinginitiatives that improve patient comfort and wellbeing.Ruth's personal story is as compelling as the Foundation'smission. Having qualified and briefly worked as a midwife, she soon transitioned into roles in management and communications. Her husband jokingly refers to her career pivot as her “midwife crisis.” After practising midwiferyfor a short time, Ruth moved into communications, marketing, fundraising, and events—eventually discovering her passion for leadership within the charitable sector. Today, she combines her professional expertise and deep sense ofpurpose to guide the Well Foundation towards meaningful and measurable impact in Auckland's healthcare landscape. As a parent, Ruth also juggles the demands of herprofessional role with family life. Originally from the UK, her husband's roots mean the family regularly travels back to England to stay connected with loved ones. Her life, much like her work, is a delicate balance of purpose, passion, and connection. The Well Foundation plays a crucial role in helping theWaitematā DHB realise its vision of “best care for everyone.” With more than 30 community healthcare sites and two major hospitals under its umbrella, the DHB depends on the Foundation's ability to harness community generosity. Recent projects have included equipping hospitals with new technologies and funding initiatives that directly enhance patient experience.Ruth's leadership at the Well Foundation is grounded in agenuine commitment to creating positive change. Whether it's fundraising, building partnerships, or inspiring a shared sense of purpose, her approach is both pragmatic and deeply human. As Ruth puts it, “At the end of the day, it'sabout people helping people.”To hear more from Ruth Morse and learn about the impactfulwork of the Well Foundation, listen to the full interview at www.purposelypodcast.com.

The final days and moments of a person's life can be uncomfortable subjects for people to think about, let alone discuss with others. But what I discovered by spending a morning at the Hospice at Glengarda, Saskatchewan's first stand-alone hospice, is that there is so much room for light, laughter and gratitude when the end is near. What I also discovered is how much work it takes from very dedicated and caring staff to ensure those streams of light make their way into the hospice. You are about to meet some of those people as we take you inside the Hospice at Glengarda. In January of 2021, the Hospice at Glengarda opened on a quiet residential street in Saskatoon's exhibition neighbourhood. The hospice has 15 private rooms and is designed for patients requiring end-of-life care. The story of how the Hospice went from idea to reality is really amazing and one we covered a few weeks ago in a bonus episode of the podcast featuring Lecina Hicke, CEO of the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation. I strongly encourage you to give it a listen if you haven't done so already as Lecina tells the story so well. Now, I must admit that before I stepped foot in the Hospice at Glengarda, in my mind, this was going a very serious and perhaps solemn interview because we were going to be talking about death and dying. Well, that quickly changed when I met Robin Stahl, Kristin Hubic and Monique Blom. As I mentioned earlier, there is so much light and energy and laughter in this space and I feel so grateful to have spoken with Robin, Kristin and Monique together as they have amazing chemistry. They gave my photographer and friend, Molly Schikosky, and I a tour of the Hospice and made us feel so welcomed. I maybe asked five or six questions over the span of our two hours together which is wonderful because, as you are about to hear, they fed off of each-other's energy and traded stories with one-another that illustrate the importance and significance of their work. The tour they gave us was very unique. They wanted to place us in the shoes of a person who was arriving into the Hospice, which is why Monique asked if I would lay down on the floor of the back entrance. That's because when a person arrives to the Hospice, they enter on a stretcher through the back door. As you will hear, this back entrance is a very unique space. From there, we visit one of the spa rooms, the main floor kitchen and the smudge room. We weren't able to go inside of the patient rooms as they were all full but we do talk about what the rooms look like and why paying attention to the little things in so important to patients and families. A big thank you to Robin, Kristin, Monique and the entire team at the Hospice at Glengarda for making time for us and making us feel so welcomed in their space. I know you will enjoy this episode. Please feel free to leave a 5-star review if you like what you hear!A big thank you Rob Rongve and his team at RBC Dominion Securities in North Battleford for supporting this episode. Thank you for continuing to support a local, independent podcast!Cheers...Eric Host, Producer, Editor: Eric AndersonTheme Music: Andrew DicksonWebsite: https://www.yxeunderground.com
Hello and welcome to a special bonus episode of YXE Underground. I'm your host, Eric Anderson. Happy New Year to all of you and I hope you had a wonderful holiday season.I am really excited to begin 2024 with a bonus episode featuring a really kind and passionate person in our community. Her name is Lecina Hicke and she is the CEO of the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation. The reason I reached out to Lecina is I wanted to do an episode focusing on the Hospice at Glengarda. As you will hear in our conversation, Lecina has a very strong connection to the Hospice and worked extremely hard for years to ensure its construction and its mission of providing compassionate and meaningful End-of-Life care would be successful. The Hospice at Glengarda is a 15-bed Hospice located on Hilliard Street East and Melrose Avenue in Saskatoon's Exhibition neighbourhood. My wife and I used to live on Ash Street and would walk by the construction three times day because our dog Fred loved his walks, and it was really something to see this beautiful building going up in a quiet, old neighbourhood in the city. The Hospice is governed by Emmanual Health, owned by St. Paul's Hospital and was Saskatchewan's first stand-alone hospice.I feel very lucky to have spent an afternoon with Lecina in her office at St. Paul's Hospital learning about the work that went into fundraising for the Hospice, why educating the general public was so important, and the impact a gentleman named Gord Engel had on her and the Close to Home fundraising campaign. Now, the plan is to do an episode where we take you inside the Hospice at Glengarda and speak with staff about the work they are doing. We are just working on finding a time that works for everyone. Hopefully that episode will come out in the next few weeks, but I really think knowing the background behind the creation will of the Hospice will make you appreciate the work it is doing for patients and families in Saskatoon even more.Thank you so much for listening to this bonus episode and don't forget to share it and leave a 5-star review if you like what you hear!Cheers...Eric Host, Producer, Editor: Eric AndersonTheme Music: Andrew DicksonWebsite: https://www.yxeunderground.com
Usually, when an internationally famous or prominent person talks about Winnipeg, the local media falls all over each other to get the news out. But when it goes against their promoted narrative, the "professional journalists" pretend it didn't happen. In Episode 27, you'll hear what the media didn't want you to find out about a "gender-affirming" fundraising pitch the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba attached to their Dr. Goodbear brand. 16:38 Part 2- On November 15 a Twitter/X thread was started that intended to portray their woke credentials: At Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba we celebrate diversity and strive to be inclusive and supportive of everyone's identities. On #TransgenderAwarenessWeek we are sharing information on gender-affirming medical care that supports youth health and wellness for kids in MB. After citing "international guidelines for supportive care for transitioning youth", what was being touted shocked Winnipeg donors: Mary is a 10-year-old, who just wants to feel like a “real girl,” in her body and thanks to her family's unwavering love and support, together they are on a gender-affirming path to make her feel more authentically herself. Readers were directed to a link about the child's "journey" along with "tips to be a gender-affirming ally": http://goodbear.ca/Mary The next day, the campaign got worldwide notoriety, when the woman who operates Libs of Tik Tok told her followers: "The kid worries about never having a baby but the hospital claims it doesn't matter" because "her plans to be a famous actress won't allow time to be a mom anyway." We raise questions about 'health professionals' catering to the imagination of a 10 year old, the role of the parents who claim they knew their son was "trans" since age 5, and the ability of that child to weigh the lifelong pharmaceutical and surgical consequences of "a future aligned with her true self". People from Manitoba and beyond unleashed strong criticism that any of those factors had been properly assessed for "Mary". One of those reacting was Twitter/X owner Elon Musk, who described what he read in the article as "Unconscionable." Listen to the legitimate concerns and questions about the Foundation promoting 10 year olds making life-altering decisions, with one noting "All of the radio stations here keep taking part in fund raisers and lotteries to raise money" for the charity. No wonder the Winnipeg media didn't want the public to know. The ratio on the PR misfire was so overwhelmingly negative- with only 37 'likes' on over 630,000 views- the Foundation braintrust rushed to restrict replies within 2 hours of Chaya Raichik shining a light on it (her post about 'Mary's Story' has over 2.5M views). We compare this to Louisville where even "trans-affirming" Dr. Adam Neff, who admits to having a 7 year old patient, has required criteria: "You need to meet diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria. Need to understand the risk benefit, informed consent, all of that. If there are mental health concerns, make sure that they are being addressed." We list the countries in the EU that have barred use of puberty blockers outside of clinical trials, the growing number of people who undergo excruciating detransition, and ask if Foundation CEO and President Stefano Grande even knows or cares. We know the Winnipeg media doesn't- even after Raichik called the Children's Hospital program "child abuse and all these doctors belong in prison", and Elon Musk called it "Unconscionable". In Winnipeg, that's "#NotNews". 37:31 Part 3- Justin Trudeau forks out up to $30,000 a year to his approved media reporters. Episode 27 is another example of a story they won't report. The Richard Syrett Show November 17th, 2023 Bomb Threats at Toronto Jewish Schools, Hospital Foundation in Manitoba Encourages 10-year old boy to "become a girl," and Iran's Quest for Supremacy- Do Iran-backed terrorists already have dirty nuclear bombs inside the U.S.?
The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba is currently weathering intense scrutiny due to a controversial social media post in which they actively supported and encouraged a 10-year-old child's decision to undergo a surgical gender transition. In a separate development, True North has exposed what they consider to be a misleading statement from the Liberal government. Despite the assurance that they will not be regulating podcasts, concerns have been raised about the implications of Bill C-11. This legislation empowers regulators to oversee platforms, including the majority of podcast hosting platforms. Meanwhile, internal pressures are mounting on the Alberta NDP to consider rebranding. Given that 30% of annual giving happens in December, it's crucial for nonprofits to have a winning year-end fundraising strategy. Calendar year-end fundraising leverages end-of-year tax benefits to motivate donors to give, while also aligning with the holiday spirit when people are more inclined to be charitable. In today's podcast episode, the IPM Advancement team shares their best tips for CYE fundraising, including the importance of major donors, why direct mail still matters, how to navigate 2023 trends and challenges, re-engaging lapsed donors, the role of self-care in fundraising, how to strategize for 2024, and more. The offensive Israel launched in Gaza over the past few days is unfolding very differently than many expected, according to Shashank Yoshi, a defense editor at The Economist. Israel seems to have begun an incremental, gradual invasion that is likely to be sustained — and catastrophic — for the civilians who remain in northern Gaza. And, hundreds of angry men broke past barricades and entered the airport in Dagestan, a Muslim-majority republic in southern Russia. They were searching for Israelis and Jewish people arriving from Tel Aviv, but found none. Also, in Latvia, an organization called the Children's Hospital Foundation has been hosting groups of Ukrainian children and their families for 10 days of fun, therapy and respite away from the war. Plus, Aga Khan Master Musicians offer zigzagging musical journeys on their new album.

Many smaller nonprofits don't have the budget to hire experienced fundraisers. They either make do with existing staff or hire a consultant that advises but doesn't implement. This week on Breaking Battlegrounds, we are joined by Utah State Treasurer, Marlo Oaks. Later in the show, we check in with former Arizona Congressional candidate Mark DeLuzio, a Gold Star father, for a look at the true meaning of Memorial Day. Finally, Jeff Taylor of the Salvation Army calls in to discuss the homelessness crisis and what can be done to solve it. -Treasurer Marlo Oaks spent 17 years overseeing multi-billion-dollar portfolios, first at Farmers Insurance Group in Los Angeles (15 years, $24 billion) and then at Intermountain Healthcare (2+ years, $7.5 billion) in Salt Lake City. He oversaw the Treasury function at Intermountain, along with all the community portfolios, including Primary Children's Hospital Foundation. The insurance pools were top performers among their peers, allowing the company to purchase AIG's Direct Automobile Business, adding $4 billion to the portfolios, at the bottom of the market (March 2009). Treasurer Oaks began his career in Hong Kong on the derivatives desk at Standard Chartered Bank, a large British Bank with offices primarily in emerging markets. As a volunteer, Treasurer Oaks served on the foundation investment committee at Utah Valley University for nine years. For the past 20 years, Mark has been a successful entrepreneur as the founder of a global management consulting company and has received international acclaim as a leader in his field. Mark has been married to his college sweetheart, Diane, for 41 years. They have two sons, Scott and Steven, who joined the military after the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Like their two sons, Mark and his wife continue to give back to America by dedicating themselves to various military charities. Mark has also helped countless Veterans to start successful businesses. Mark and Diane have three beautiful grandchildren who are the joy of their lives.-After retiring from a very successful run on Wall Street in his late 20's, Jeff had an escalating drug and alcohol addiction. By the age of 34 he was living on the streets of Phoenix and was arrested many times for homeless “survival” crimes that soon grew into non-violent drug motivated felonies.
