Joseph C. Gioconda (Joe) is a unique combination of a successful trial attorney, and author of several successful horror novels. When Joe was younger, he studied to become a Catholic priest. He attended a prep Seminary, but decided that he wanted a secular life, so he attended Yale Law School and became a lawyer. He then used his writing skills and powers of persuasion to publish several novels and short stories in the horror and historical fiction genres.Joe's BooksHis first novel, The Pope's Butcher, became an Amazon best-seller one week after its release and has received widespread critical acclaim for its incredible historical accuracy and research as well as page-turning style. It is based on the true story of a serial killer in the medieval Vatican. His second novel, Salem's Ropes, is based on the true story of the Ropes Mansion in Salem, Massachusetts. He is also publishing an anthology of 33 horror-themed short stories called Fleeting Chills, written by himself and several diverse authors from around the world. His upcoming third novel, Katrina's Crosses, will tell the story of a law student in New Orleans investigating 'cold cases' who discovers a shocking pattern to ritual murders.Book Reviews:★ "Exhaustively researched and brilliantly executed...A riveting read." -- The Prairies Book Review★ "The Pope's Butcher is top-notch writing, the best book I've read this year, and I'm looking forward to Joseph C. Gioconda's second novel, Salem's Ropes." -- Lex Allen, Reader's Favorite Book Review★ "Immersing the reader in the bloody but fascinating world of medieval witch trials, Joseph Gioconda's debut is a thrilling take on a little-known historical episode." -- Indie Reader Book Review★ "A dark, well-researched story centered on the Inquisition's most notorious killer. With evocative prose and careful research, Gioconda captures the nuances of medieval Church politics and the frank realities of the prejudices of the time." -- BookLife by Publisher's Weekly★ "From the first chapter, I was hooked as the book is a real page turner! I love that the book is inspired by actual history and that the author provides great details about the true horror in the medieval Vatican!" -- NetGalley Reviewer★ "I loved the world building as well as the absolutely authentic feel. Institoris is as twisted a character as one can have, but the scariest part is that he was real. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author." -- GoodReads Reviewer★ "The Pope's Butcher is one of those novels that leaves you thinking about what was, what is, and what will be in the next hundred years. Now that's good writing!" -- Viga Boland, Reader's Favorite Book Review

This beauty just had a birthday and turned 25, so everybody send her a happy birthday message! Lex is young and wise. She follows her gut instinct and intuition. She isn’t scared to take big, scary leaps for life and love. Lex and Jimmie were set up to meet at his show from mutual friends. Lex is a nurse and came straight from work in her scrubs, naturally beautiful and confident without even trying. It was pretty immediate sparks for them. The first car trip they took, Jimmie leaned over and kissed her at a stoplight. Their instant chemistry gives Simon and Daphne from Bridgerton a run for their money. The next show he invited Lex to, he changed the words to his song to say “kissing at a stoplight,” then he walked through the crowd and laid one on Lex. I love their love story. It’s full of passion and willingness to dive all in. Lex shares with me what she’s learned from being a mama, how life has changed in so many ways the past year, the lessons learned from being a Nurse and handling life and death plus the rocket ship ride of Jimmie’s fame. Lex is so down to earth and relatable while being a total smoke-show sweet heart. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

While we are so proud of what we have created, we are also profoundly aware of our shortcomings when it has come to sharing BIPOC voices. We take full accountability of this and are currently focusing on making enlightened changes to our platform. Moving forward into our second year of podcasting, we are determined to AMPLIFY, DIVERSIFY and promote INCLUSION through our guests, topics and social media. SHI(F)T HAPPENS is 100% our passion project. We create these episodes because we love connecting with incredible humans and are excited to continue to do so! Currently, we are taking time to actively re-evaluate, educate ourselves and create new content with amazing guests.  Artistry, Activism and Authenticity with Lex Allen  On episode 15 we are joined by Milwaukee's own, Lex Allen. Based out of Milwaukee, WI. Lex Allen is a Soul Pop singer/songwriter that connects all ages, genders, genres and races at their over-the-top emotional, roller-coaster of a live show. Lex creates musical space for those seeking something to help through the hurt and connects with those needing inspiration to help them see their self worth. They make music for that 5 a.m. listener who wants something loud and maybe a little ratchet to get them through their day. Allen's music breathes love and liberation. Lex (who uses they/them pronouns) joins us to discuss their unique path to success and how their deep roots in the community has shaped them as an artist and individual. We delve into the many creative avenues in which Lex explores, and the process of bringing projects to fruition. They explain how being a black, queer, non-binary person has fueled their mission to be an activist, which they are best able to do by being their true self. Lex brings authenticity and a no-apologies attitude not only to their music, but to the way they live their life. WMSE is excited to be back once again at Club Garibaldi for our monthly Local/Live segments. On Tuesday, October 2, we welcome Milwaukee’s “retro”-electronic brother duo, Immortal Girlfriend for a live show and interview on-site and over the airwaves that YOU can join! Milwaukee’s Immortal Girlfriend is a fresh “retro” brother duo of William and Kevin Bush, who use atmospheric layering of electronics to wash over their melodic vocals. While the heart and soul of their sounds might be immersed in nostalgia, their sound is thoroughly modern and akin to chill + synth wave outfits like Washed Out, SURVIVE and Bonobo. In their spare creative time, Immortal Girlfriend also operate as producers out of a music studio in Lannon, laying down sounds for a growing list of Milwaukee artists, including WebsterX and Lex Allen. Although Immortal Girlfriend have been active on the scene for a brief time, the two go far back with their initial collaborative creations in their parents’ basement. Those creative days have produced their debut ‘Daybreak’ EP (released in 2017) and the single “Summer Dream” (released in May of this year). Immortal Girlfriend has graced the stage of Summerfest, Turner Hall Ballroom, Cactus Club and more, supporting diverse bills of music ranging from pop, soul, hip hop and electronic.

“Milwaukee native Lex Allen, is reinventing old soul for a new generation, with his own sound that has been dubbed “Soul Pop with a kick”. He has been compared to new aged singers John Legend and Justin Timberlake, with the articulation of indie powerhouse Jason Mraz. “Dare to be different” is the motto he lives by through and through, it’s evident in his enlightened lyrical style that is way beyond his years.” From Tap Milwaukee: “Produced by Q The Sun, “This Is Our Year” is Lex Allen’s newest joint and it’s bangin’. Off top, the beat is just funky with it’s thick bass and hype drums. Then with Lex’s voice on top and a guest verse from Lorde Fredd33, this not only gets you hype, but it gives you that drive to make things happen.”
