Connor revisits last night's overtime loss to Illinois. He says the team really showed him something in a losing effort. And he discusses the poor officiating as well.
Connor asks if he's complaining about the win, he explains the things he likes about Friday's victory against Illinois, and some things he didn't much care for.
Acomi and Turk182 experience firsthand the old adage "be careful what you wish for", as they embark upon their dream project. Turk had a vision of recording a cover of The Beastie Boys classic Paul Revere, from their 1986 debut album, License To Ill, using actors who established talent could bring a new listening experience. With much thread pulling, cajoling, impossible favors, and more money than they have, they were able to secure Christopher Walken, William Shatner, and Danny Devito to sing the parts of Ad-Rock, MCA, and Mike D. This is an event that Acomi and Turk won't soon forget, and will NEVER attempt again. Enjoy! All celebrity voices are poorly impersonated and are not remotely mistakable for the celebrity themselves. Impressions are done the best they can, but still isn't good enough. #OMTWF #Acomi #Turk182 #KorovaEntertainment #BeastieBoys #PaulRevere #WilliamShatner #ChristopherWalken #DannyDevito #impressions #imitations #impersonation #poorlydone #badimpressions Follow Acomi on Twitter at @AcomiDraws and on Instagram at AcomiDraws. Communities can form around illnesses that are ignored, or contested, by outside authorities. Havana syndrome differs from other contested illnesses: not only for its proposed cause, but for the massive institutional investment in its narrative. It's been a long year, but having a new season of The Mandalorian makes it all worth it!Okay, that's probably overstating it a bit, but we're clinging to every little shred of goodness we can squeeze in before something else bad happens. Jon Gabrus (Action Boys, High and Mighty) joins Matt to discuss the Beastie Boys' first album License To Ill! A Statement from Matt Apodaca: "Hello Everyone. Way back in November 2019 I announced I’d be releasing the follow up to my Weezer podcast, a podcast series diving into the discography of the Beastie Boys titled “So Whatcha Whatcha Whatcha Talkin About the Beastie Boys”. I recorded the first episode with Gabrus and was excited to continue! Then I got busier, then the pandemic happened. I never got around to recording the rest of the episodes but it felt nuts to hold the episode any longer. For me doing my own pods is a lot of fun and infinitely easier to do with studio capabilities, since I’m recording, hosting and editing all myself. Unfortunately right now with the work I have to do on the other shows I work on and not being the most experienced editor, I’m as of now unable to work on my own projects but hopefully with learning some new skills I’ll be able to return to it at some point. I hope you enjoy Gabrus and I talking about the Beastie Boys’ License to Ill! Cheers! Bill and Brian welcome bloggers Ed and Alice Magdziak from youdontknowjersey.com to help us talk about what makes Beastie Boys' License to Ill great. Formed by 3 teenage New Yorkers who held the burgeoning rap scene of the early 80s in the same regard as the hardcore punk they grew up on, the band went on to release a huge cross over hit that was only a hint at the critically acclaimed and influential series of albums they would produce. Alice and Ed discuss their very different experiences discovering the band in middle-of-nowhere Ohio and as a college sophomore who had a chance meeting, respectively. Brian, Bill, Ed, and Alice discuss the Beastie Boys' party dude image, the mysoginistic and sexist content on the album, the influence of happenstance in meeting producer Rick Rubin and label head Russell Simmons, how broad the genre divide is in rap music, the importance of sequencing especially when navigating mediocre tracks, and of course a track by track review!
