Are you ready for a high-octane adventure through the tumultuous world of teenage rebellion and automotive mayhem? Then jump into the driver's seat because it's time to rediscover the laughter, hijinks, and teenage romance that made this 80s Flick a beloved cult classic. In the sun-soaked suburbs of California, we meet the lovesick teenager Les Anderson, whose one goal in life is to earn his driver's license and impress the girl of his dreams, Mercedes Lane. However, when Les fails his driving test, he embarks on a wild and reckless journey with his two friends after borrowing his grandfather's prized Cadillac for a night of adventure. What follows is a zany night filled with numerous car chases, unconscious dates, and Les discovering the confidence he didn't realize he had. So grab your keys to the Caddy, avoid the no-parking zones, and meet us at Archie's Drive-In as Tim Williams and guest co-host, Nicholas Pepin from "Pop Culture Roulette" Podcast discuss “License To Drive” from 1988 on this episode of the 80s Flick Flashback Podcast. Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode: At the age of 16, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman were already world-class partiers. In Feldman's autobiography "Coreyography", he claims during the filming of License to Drive: Sam Kinison stopped by the set frequently, where Feldman says they participated in “coke-off challenges” – contests to see who could do the most rails and who could stay up the longest. Feldman, newly emancipated, moved into his own two-bedroom apartment during filming. He says his apartment became “the staging area for elaborate nights” of drug-fueled parties, where he and Haim got high. Haim and Feldman stalled production after a night of doing eight balls. They did arrive on set, but only after snorting more cocaine. The 1980s was a remarkable era for cinema, leaving an indelible mark on popular culture that still resonates today. It was a time when big hair, neon colors, and shoulder pads were in vogue, and the silver screen transported audiences to worlds both familiar and fantastical. From heartwarming tales that tugged at our heartstrings to pulse-pounding adventures that kept us on the edge of our seats, the '80s had it all. From action-packed blockbusters like "Indiana Jones" and "Die Hard" to comedic gems like "Ghostbusters" and "Back to the Future," the '80s gifted us with unforgettable characters, quotable lines, and imaginative worlds that captured our imagination. Beyond the compelling stories, the '80s introduced us to a new wave of visionary directors who pushed the boundaries of filmmaking. From Steven Spielberg's mastery of spectacle and fantasy to John Hughes' ability to capture the essence of teenage angst, these creators left an indelible imprint on the cinematic landscape. So, dust off your VHS tapes, cue up your favorite '80s soundtrack, and join us as we celebrate the magic of a decade that continues to enchant audiences of all ages. In Part One, we covered Joel's Top 5 Films from the 80s – License To Drive, Stand By Me, Back to the Future, Batman, and Robocop. In Part Two, we'll look at my Top 5 80s Films. As we said in Part One, these are the movies we loved IN the 80s... not necessarily the 80s movies that we watched later in life and now love. Where does our DeLorean take us this week? We head back to 1988 to resist the Two Coreys classic, License to Drive. We're also joined by the podcast, Designated Quizzers as we talk about driving with hot coffee, Uncle Phil vs Carl Winslow, and our love for the two Coreys. All this and more before heading Back to the Future. Join two Chicanos as they hop in their Delorean and travel Back in Time to revisit the movies, music, and moments of their past.
Katie, MJ, and Joe return after a brief hiatus to discuss not one, but two films! (Don't worry, Darcy will be back soon!) First, License to Drive (1988) provides fertile ground for theorizing a Jacob's Ladder-esque, life-before-his-eyes story structure wherein Les Anderson (Corey Haim) dies at the end and the film circles back upon itself, Finnegans Wake style. Other topics include: Teenage deceit, personal experiences getting our licenses, the snowballing of lies, North by Northwest, patrilinear murder, Heather Graham as fey or chaos witch, the problematic nature of putting a vulnerable woman in a trunk, the greedy 80s/the reward system of cheating, and more...Second, we have Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991), Katie and Joe's childhood fave. Nostalgic reflections ensue! Katie warmly remembers how Joe would constantly watch the VHS (recorded off of HBO) as their after school ritual. Joe recounts how Christina Applegate's character Swell exemplified the “not a girl, not yet a woman” theme. MJ theorizes that it's an existential survivalist thriller. Other topics include: adulthood as service, the douchey business world (“Fake it ‘til you make it!”), sexist reviews, iconic lines (“I'm right on top of that, Rose!”), twinning, latchkey kids, gender role reversal... among other things! Then we cap it off with a compare/contrast.IG: @vhs_glowTwitter: @vhs_glowRoyalty-free music: Music Produced by: Aries Beats - https://www.youtube.com/c/ariesbeatsPromoted by: CRFC - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQLZ...

This week, we're talking about License to Drive. Les Anderson finally passed his driving test and got his license! At least that's what he's telling all his friends and family. No problem, all he has to do is lay low and not drive until he can actually get his license. Uh oh, but that plan goes out the window when his dream girl, Mercedes Lane, wants to go on a date with him tonight. Guess he'll have to steal his Grandaddy's Caddy and drive around til dawn getting into trouble and wacky hijinks! Get out of our dreams and into this week's episode of So 5 Minutes Ago!

Mark, Rick and Brian kick off their first "reviewsit" of 2017 with the Corey Haim/ Corey Feldman coming-of-age comedy License to Drive. The gents identify influences from contemporary films like Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Better Off Dead on the movie, ponder if the use of insurance claims would have voided out the film's plot and share a story of the time their friend broke Heather Graham's toilet. The fellas also coin the term "BM" aka "Before Mark" for a timeline reference, Rick shares insight into diaper etiquette and they become enraged over one particular Saved By the Bell character. The lads also reminisce about their own driver's tests, which likewise contained some wacky obstacles like The Coreys encountered! Hop in the car and enjoy a drive down laughter lane!
In this episode of Forgotten Flix Remembers, Joel conducts a bit of an experiment. He talked to four, count ’em four, guests about the 1988 teen comedy, License to Drive starring the two Coreys.
