We open by tracking our video money and mocking the chef who quit Elon's "epic" bacon diner, before diving into the IN THE NEWS segment where plummeting crypto and Nvidia stocks confirm everything is a sham; we cover Bezos's new $6.2 billion AI flop, a sleeping Tesla Robotaxi driver, and why OpenAI's new school tools are a Recipe for Idiocracy with students who can't read; in MEDIA CANDY, we tear apart Disney's lazy Moana remake; THE DARK SIDE WITH DAVE we discuss Zork going open source and why movies just don't feel real anymore before CLOSING SHOUT-OUTS where we are mourning Mani from the Stone Roses, and wishing Bjork a very metal 60th.We start with a FOLLOW UP on our channel's performance, wading through the garbage pile of Monetization questions and Stats, including the scourge of Shorts—because apparently, that's what we do now. Speaking of people running from trouble, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers is ditching his OpenAI board seat after a fresh batch of cringey Jeffrey Epstein emails surfaced. Meanwhile, the financial world is having a meltdown: Nvidia's Stock is Falling Again after its earnings report, exposing the fact that almost Yet Another Study Shows That Most Companies Aren't Making Any Money Off AI, and Bitcoin is Getting Absolutely Crushed Right Now, which we happily remind you will Trigger the Next Financial Crisis. Don't worry, Jeff Bezos will head a new engineering-focused AI startup because the world clearly needs more tech billionaires throwing money at things they don't understand, while Apple is reportedly getting ready to replace Tim Cook. The tech-bro corruption parade continues as a former DOJ official points out that Trump's Crypto Pardon of the Binance co-founder is exactly what it looks like, and Elon's pet AI, Grok Insists That Elon Musk Is More Physically Fit Than LeBron James and better at everything else, proving the bot has been sampling its boss's Adderall. Even though ChatGPT Achieves a New Level of Intelligence by finally letting you disable its em-dash addiction, companies like Intuit are integrating its tax and accounting products with ChatGPT—because who doesn't want an AI-powered tax audit? This all dovetails nicely with the news that OpenAI is launching ChatGPT for Teachers' right as students' math skills hit a low, leading to a literal Recipe for Idiocracy where elite college students Can't Read Books. The whole thing is broken, including Tesla's so-called Robotaxi, where a Passenger Alarmed When Tesla Robotaxi “Safety” Driver Falls Completely Asleep at the Wheel. On a lighter note, we check out the new trailers for The Witcher S4, Frankenstein, and Project Hail Mary in MEDIA CANDY, and tear apart the absolutely unnecessary live-action Moana teaser, before mentioning the biggest drama launch on Apple TV, Pluribus.Next up is THE DARK SIDE WITH DAVE, where our tireless security guru Dave Bittner throws in some random facts, like Microsoft making Zork I, II, and III open source and videos on why the iOS Keyboard is Broken and Why Movies Just Don't Feel "Real” Anymore, and we discuss Thanksgiving plans. Finally, in CLOSING SHOUT-OUTS, we end with a shout-out to our generous PATREON supporters and PAYPAL/STRIPE donors, mourn the passing of Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist Mani, and wish the incomparable Bjork a milestone 60th birthday.Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/tWM83ra7Qp8Sponsors:Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. In this episode of the XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar is joined by Mani — legendary bassist of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, and one of the most influential figures in British rock history. From the euphoric rise of The Stone Roses — the band that defined a generation and changed the sound of British music — to the wild creative freedom of Primal Scream, Mani's journey has been nothing short of iconic. In this conversation, Mani looks back on the moments that shaped him — from the late-'80s Manchester underground, when The Roses' mix of psychedelic swagger and dancefloor groove ignited the Madchester movement, to recording their classic debut album and riding the wave of euphoria that followed. He opens up about the frustration of losing momentum during the long and bitter legal battles with Silvertone Records and FM Revolver, a period that tested the band's spirit but ultimately forged their defiant edge. He recalls the band's rebirth with Second Coming, his explosive years with Primal Scream, and the emotional highs of reuniting The Roses for the monumental Heaton Park shows — one of the greatest comebacks in modern music. Mani reflects on the brotherhood, the chaos, and the transcendence that came with it all — and what it means to live through those storms with joy still intact. "The four of us. Boom. There it is. The power of four. And it was beautiful." – Mani (on the magic of The Stone Roses' reunion) Mani also shares personal memories of the Beautiful Thing sessions, the deep connection between groove and spirituality, and how he's carried The Roses' sense of defiance and soul into everything since. With trademark humour and honesty, he talks about surviving the highs and lows of fame, the secret to keeping the spirit of rock 'n' roll alive, and why music, at its best, still feels like a resurrection. Listen to the full episode and join Mani as he reflects on a lifetime in music — from Manchester to the world — The groove, the chaos, the resurrection.

Lipps Service with Scott Lipps

On this episode of Lipps Service, Scott sits down with the blistering Irish rock quartet Inhaler! The band fronted by Elijah Hewson most recently released its junior album, 'Open Wide,' in February. They kick off the conversation talking about touring, including life on the road, playing festivals like Sea. Hear. Now., and gigs in South America. The guys get into how they met and formed in Ireland, and the Irish music scene they grew up in, with bands like Fontaines DC. They discuss loads about the influence of UK and Irish music and their own experiences shaping today's generation – what it was like opening up for Noel Gallagher, the current Oasis comeback stadium tour, and the new Spinal Tap 2 movie. They talk about the new album and the stories behind some of its hit songs like “Concrete.” The band also gets into the plights of musicians today, giving their thoughts on AI, starting young in the industry, band fights, and band democracy. Inhaler spills so much during this interview, hinting at what's to come, so this chat is not to be missed. In Episode #242 of the XS Noize Podcast, host Mark Millar chats with John Robb — musician, journalist, author, broadcaster, and founder of Louder Than War — about his brand-new book Live Forever: The Rise, Fall and Resurrection of Oasis. From fronting cult punk bands The Membranes and Goldblade to coining the term Britpop and becoming the first UK journalist to interview Nirvana, John has been at the frontline of music for decades. Alongside his career as a musician and broadcaster, he has written definitive books on punk, goth, and the acclaimed biography The Stone Roses and the Resurrection of British Pop. Now, with Oasis back in the spotlight thanks to their massive Live 25 tour, he turns his attention to one of the greatest rock 'n' roll stories ever told — the turbulent, era-defining journey of the band. In this episode, John discusses how he approached writing Live Forever, the rise of Oasis from Manchester clubs to worldwide fame, and why the band still matters three decades on. He also reflects on his earlier work with The Stone Roses, how he balances life as a musician, journalist, and author, and why he continues to push boundaries — on stage, on the page, and online. Whether you grew up with Oasis, followed John Robb's writing, or simply love hearing stories from those who shaped modern music, this episode is packed with insight, energy, and history.  Or listen via YouTube | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Amazon Music | RSS – Find The XS Noize Podcast's complete archive of episodes here. Britpop was more than just a musical genre—it was the soundtrack to an entire generation's coming of age. Our guest Mark Jennings opens up his musical time capsule to share twelve tracks that defined not just the movement, but pivotal moments in his own life. The mix takes us chronologically through Britpop's evolution—starting with Oasis's thunderous "Rock and Roll Star" and concluding with The Long Pigs' punchy "She Said." Along the way, Mark provides fascinating context about the famous Blur vs. Oasis rivalry that dominated British headlines but barely registered across the Atlantic. Before streaming services democratized music discovery, these cultural phenomena remained strangely localized, creating parallel music universes on either side of the pond.We discuss how The Stone Roses sparked the entire movement, why The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" video captivated MTV viewers, and how Radiohead's early work provides a gateway into their experimental evolution. For every legendary band like Blur or Oasis, Mark highlights underappreciated gems from bands like Supergrass, Ocean Color Scene, and Republica.Whether you lived through the 90s Britpop explosion or are discovering these sounds for the first time, this episode connects the musical dots between yesterday's cultural revolution and today's ongoing British music influence. Blackpool, Lancashire lies on the Irish Sea on the northwest coast of England, situated roughly 50-some miles north of Liverpool and 50-some miles west of Manchester. This seaside destination may conjure up visions of tourists, the Promenade, Pleasure Beach, or Blackpool Tower, but this week we focus on Blackpool as a crucial stop on the musical map. Joining us for this engaging discussion is one of Blackpool's favourite musical sons, John Robb! John was outside enjoying a lovely sunny day in Manchester, and we were lucky to get nearly an hour of his time before his phone connection went kaput. John has been at the centre of Blackpool post-punk legends the Membranes from their original 1977-1990 run to their post-hiatus return since 2009. Their initial era (including their three UK Top 20 indie albums and three Top 20 indie singles) is covered on Cherry Red's comprehensive 5 CD box set, Everyone's Going Triple Bad Acid, Yeah! They added to their already impressive body of work in the 21st century with two of their finest and most ambitious albums yet: 2015's Dark Matter/Dark Energy and 2019's What Nature Gives...Nature Takes Away. But wait, there's far more to this multi-faceted artist. Aside from also leading the punk band Goldblade, Robb has also produced bands like Therapy? and Cornershop; been a TV presenter and pundit; a journalist; best-selling author (including The Art of Darkness - The History of Goth, Punk Rock: An Oral History, Stone Roses and the Resurrection of British Pop, The North Will Rise Again, and an upcoming Oasis biography); creator of the essential Louder Than War website and magazine; festival boss; green revolutionary; vegan behemoth...a true renaissance man. "The Song Forlorn" Perhaps best known as the Peter portion of the Swedish outfit Peter Bjorn and John, Peter Morén and his band have put out close to ten albums of catchy indie rock that's yielded worldwide hits like "Young Folks," tours around the globe, international television ads and TV and movie placements in everything from Gossip Girl to Bandslam. Raised in the Swedish countryside, Morén grew up listening to Ride, Depeche Mode, The Housemartins and the Stone Roses and his sonorous and melodic body of work reflects his love of well-crafted pop songs. With four fabulous solo albums under his belt, a side project with members of The Shout Out Louds and The Concretes and handling producer duties for Robert Forster's wonderful new album Strawberries, Morén is a busy guy. And I'm leaving things out, I'm sure. But what I'm not leaving out is his second album under the moniker SunYears. The follow up to the dazzling Come Fetch My Soul, The Song Forlorn is a stirring and rousing song-cycle filled with wistful pop, affecting ballads, fuzzed out psych jams and rootsy instrumentals. Featuring guests like Lisa Hannigan, Sam Genders, Nicole Atkins, and Madison Cunningham, The Song Forlorn is an album that's filled with tremendous stylistic range. There's touches of Aztec Camera and Prefab Sprout, Beatle-esque jangle and spare indie folk. It's percussive, melodic and magical work. https://www.roughtrade.com/en-us/product/sunyears/the-song-forlorn IG: @sunyearssongs www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers IG + Bluesky: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

Jack Cooper is one of those musicians you follow no matter the artistic anatomy of the individual's journey into the universally unknown. His atmospheric approach is organic and built on the brilliance of his peers, while bravely bridging the gap between the contagious contents of the 1980s and 1990s soundscapes. From his time in Mazes, The Beep Seals, and everything he eagerly evaulated, and put all his poetic power into his latest outfit, Modern Nature.  On this episode of The Self Portrait Gospel Podcast, we speak to Cooper about his rural upbringing in the UK, the influences of bands such as Oasis, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, to name a few, the critical conditions of the world, and our place in it, and eventually forming Modern Nature. Releasing a series of titles on Bella Union, Cooper has returned to the sonic stratosphere with perhaps the band's most epic effort yet, "The Heat Warps."

Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 27ú lá de mí Bealtaine, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1977 cheap daoine go raibh buama moirtéal a raibh lochtach an cúis den phléasc agus de bharr sin bhí an criú gunna cráite I gCill Mhantáin. I 1988 rinne an tArdeaspag de Tuaim aistarraing mar eadránaí den easaontas a bhí ann faoin cheadúnaigh iascaireacht. I 1967 thosaigh an taisteal saor in aisce do níos mó ná míle daltaí. I 1977 fuair dhá óstán sa chontae úinéir nua agus dhíol siad na n-óstán. Sin Rod Stewart le I Don't Want To Talk About it – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1977. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1990 chan The Stone Roses ag Spike Island sa Bhreatain le timpeall 30 míle duine ann. Tháinig sé amach gur theip an t-imeacht ag an am de bharr nach raibh an fhuaim go maith agus go raibh an t-eagrúchán uafásach, ach I rith na mblianta bhí sé níos fearr. I 1999 bhí roinnt buaiteoir den Ivor Novello cosúil le Rod Stewart a fuair gradam Lifetime Achievement, fuair Robbie Williams agus Guy Chambers scríbhneoirí den bhliain agus fuair Chrissie Hynde cuidiú iontach do cheol sa Bhreatain, Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh Lily-Rose Depp sa Fhrainc I 1999 agus rugadh aisteoir Chris Colfer I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1990 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sé. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 27th of May, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1977: a defective mortar bomb was believed to have caused the explosion which yesterday shattered a gun crew in the second army tragedy in wicklows glen of Imaal. 1988: a disillusioned archibishop of tuam dramatically withdrew as a mediator from the anti rod license dispute. 1967: one thousand clare students started to travel for free. 1977: two well known clare hotels changed hands recently and were sold. That was Rod Stewart with I Don't Want To Talk About It – the biggest song on this day in 1977 Onto music news on this day In 1990 The Stone Roses played at Spike Island, Widnes, Cheshire, England to a capacity crowd of 30,000. The event, considered a failure at the time due to sound problems and bad organisation, has become legendary over the years as a "Woodstock for the baggy generation." 1999 Winners at the Ivor Novello song writing awards included Rod Stewart who won a Lifetime Achievement Award, Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers won songwriters of the year and Chrissie Hynde won outstanding contribution to British Music. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – actress Lily-Rose Depp was born in Franc in 1999 and actor Chris Colfer was born in America on this day in 1990 and this is some of the stuff he has done. I'll be back with you tomorrow with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.

Every now and then we like to Rewind to one of our favorite episodes, normally when one of us is too ill to record or has gone on vacation. At least one of those things has happened this week so we bring you one of our all time favorite episodes...Brian, Blake, and Richard were joined by a special guest for this episode of Chasing Tone Rewound - Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters...We have an extra special guest this week and Brian may or may not fanboy a little bit. It is of course Chris Shiflett who is a monster player with a huge back catalogue of work - including playing in one of Brian's favorite bands, the Foo Fighters. Chris has some very cool new music coming out and also has his own podcast, Walking The Floor, and we talk about some of his escapades including a rare first hand peek into international tour bus life.Chris is a super nice dude, and his stories are absolutely fascinating. The guys talk about how Blake first discovered his music. They also go deep into Chris' love of classic rock and roll, and country music, and the influences that drove him to explore country based rock further. The guys then go right back to Chris' roots and his teenage years and find out all about his earliest tastes and influences and his signature Fender guitar. Conversation turns to his different rigs and then pedals...Brian may have found his new happy place amongst all this Foo tinged pedal talk.Chris has an idea for a custom delay pedal, and gives the guys an entertaining demonstration, and it just so happens Brian knows a guy. As well as being a fantastic player and all round legend, Chris loves football, sorry "soccer", and Richard and he share a love for the same football team so speak in what Blake and Brian can only describe as a completely foreign language. Brian's head spins, and he has fallen in love with one of Chris' solo songs "Born & Raised" so plays a little clip which instantly wins Blake over too. Right at the end Chris gives us some absolute golden insights into his songwriting process which is worth the admission fee itself. This is a special episode and the team hope you enjoy it and would like to say a huge thanks to Chris for coming on - go check out his new music! There may be a swear or two in this but heck - that's rock and roll baby!Van Life, Thierry Henry, The Stone Roses, Glaser mods, Panning Tremelo, Custom Chris Shiflett Delay pedal, Mopey minor keys...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!Check out Chris Shiflett's music here and his Podcast Here and look for him on TikTok, kids!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Merch and DIY mods:https://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

Kill Holiday, formed by members of San Diego hardcore band Unbroken, made a surprising shift from aggressive post-hardcore to dreamy shoegaze with their 1999 album Somewhere Between the Wrong and the Right. Released on Revelation Records, the album channels British influences like Ride and The Stone Roses, with shimmering guitars and laid-back, melancholic melodies. Despite its shoegaze and Britpop sound, the album resonates with the emotional core of the emo genre, more in feeling rather than form, standing out as a reflective, genre-crossing record from a label known for hardcore.   Songs In This Episode Intro - Somewhere Between the Wrong Is Right 11:49 - Someday You Will Lose and I Will Win 18:21 - Know You Your Friends Are Outro - In Closing (Memorial Day)   Support the podcast, join the DMO UNION at Patreon. "23" If I hadn't received an email from Oregon way back in 2010, this episode would never have happened. Out of nowhere, 15 years ago, I got a letter from Dave Cantrell who wrote a very kind email about my 33 1/3 book on The Stone Roses. The lovely things he said were...lovely and deeply appreciated, but what really stood out to me where a couple of things. First of all, Dave and I both grew up in Concord, CA a town here in the East Bay of California. And that's its own specific thing--but the other thing that really stood out was his writing. Error-free, meticulous, generous and grounded, I immediately wrote back and recruited him to write for Stereo Embers. You would have, too. It would be like walking past a park and seeing a guy throw a 105 mile an hour fastball. You want him on your team. And I'm happy to report that he still is.Cut to 15 years later, and not only is Dave a close friend, he's the Senior Editor of Stereo Embers Magazine and his new book 23 is out now. Putting it in music terms, 23 is a perfect mix tape of his work for Stereo Embers--a compilation of pieces hand-picked by Dave that represents his work over the last decade and a half. By the way, I call him the post-punk professor because, whether it's old bands or new. he's one of the leading experts on the genre. In 23 you really get a sense of the range of Post-Punk professor's knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for music. His writing is focused, articulate and precise and he writes with organic momentum and intellectual pace. And unlike many music journalists, Dave's work isn't about him--it's about the music. And that makes the writing driven, selfless and pure. www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.bombshellradio.com www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers Instagram AND Bluesky: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

What's the connection with a spy thriller from 1985 and the start of this episode of Music In My Shoes? Find out as we reminisce about "The Falcon and the Snowman," its espionage intrigue, and the collaboration between David Bowie and the Pat Metheny Group. Alongside these reflections, there's a heartfelt segment inspired by Butch Walker's social media post, which serves as a poignant reminder about the importance of health after music industry icon Matt Pinfield's stroke. Listeners from across the country share their stories and connections with bands that defined the rock scene and past MIMS episodes, including a nostalgic mention of Ian Slater from APB at the 688 Club. We embrace the vibrant feedback from our audience, like Kathy in Georgia and Del from "Mind The Gap Radio." This episode is as much about sharing personal anecdotes as it is about celebrating music that left an indelible mark on our lives. As we journey through the sounds of John Lennon, Ramones and Squeeze, we reflect on the unique sound creations and the lasting legacies these artists have left behind. The episode concludes with a look back at The Stone Roses and fond memories of the Midtown Music Festival in Atlanta. This is the free half of a full talk which can be obtained by subscribing to JaysAnalysis at the Paypal links at the site. Musician and researcher John Adams joins me to divulge new details in relation to his series with researcher Nino on the secret history of punk music. Arising from the psychedelic genre and the 60s counter-culture (so-called) movements, punk became an iconic sub-genre that would have a tremendous impact on "youth culture" through the 70s, 80s, 90s and into today. The real question, however, is whether there is a deeper occult agenda to punk music, as well as a social engineering aspect to this "scene." We explore these questions, as well as topics such as: Henry Rollins, Riot Girl, feminism, GG Allin, Iggy Pop, situationism, Fugazi, The Sex Pistols and "spectacle," performance art, deep state connections, Genesis P-Orridge and transgender agendas, the Stone Roses, Lou Reed and Blavatsky, The KLF and the rise of electronica, Discordianism, techno and rave culture, and the power of pop culture to mind control mass populations. For our first episode, music industry savants and known Scots John Niven and Chlöe Walsh look back on “Baggy” and how the Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses revitalized indie music and helped cement the rise of rave culture in the industrial, Dickensian landscape that also birthed The Smiths, Joy Division, and The Buzzcocks, as well as Oasis a decade later.
