Some of the most useful new Illustrator features are easy to miss if you aren't actively exploring the latest updates and beta tools. In this episode, Theresa Jackson talks with illustrator and toy designer Thaddeus Coates and digital artist Luke Choice about the new Illustrator features they're genuinely excited to use. Thaddeus shares how Illustrator fits into his character design and toy-making process, including using Turntable to communicate ideas to manufacturers. Luke dives into the practical side of Illustrator updates, from snapping improvements and smoother performance to AI-assisted vector workflows inside Illustrator Beta. Whether you spend your days designing logos, illustrating characters, building client work, or experimenting with new ideas, there's probably a feature in this episode you haven't tried yet. Episode Highlights Prototyping with Turntable: Hear how Thaddeus Coates uses Turntable to prototype toy ideas and communicate designs to manufacturers faster. In this episode, we examine the RadioShack Retro Turntable (Model 4001797), a $129.99 belt-drive player that aims to balance vintage aesthetics with modern connectivity. The unit plays all three standard speeds—33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM—and accommodates records up to 12 inches, making it compatible with most collections including older shellac formats. It features dual built-in speakers for immediate playback, though serious listeners will likely take advantage of the RCA outputs to connect to external audio systems. The turntable's standout feature is its bidirectional Bluetooth capability, allowing users to either stream audio to the turntable or send vinyl playback wirelessly to Bluetooth speakers. Additional connectivity includes a 3.5mm AUX input and headphone jack. Housed in an MDF case with a PVC vinyl finish and transparent dust cover, the turntable occupies a 15.75" x 14.17" footprint. At this price point, it positions itself as an accessible entry point for vinyl newcomers or a convenient secondary setup, offering out-of-the-box functionality without requiring immediate additional investment in external speakers. Brad Zerbo and Jaytriot host a packed “Dedication Week,” turning this episode of The Audio Files into a full-blown celebration of Badlands viewers, friends, and musical legends. They open with a tribute to guitarist Steve Cropper, honoring his legacy with stories, deep cuts, and the iconic riffs that shaped American soul, before launching into a long list of listener-requested dedications. From Southern rock and reggae classics to 90s ska-punk, Scottish sci-fi punk, and mid-70s British new wave, Brad and Jay guide the audience through a wildly eclectic setlist, sharing personal stories, music trivia, and memories tied to each track. The show also showcases Jordan Sather's requests, introduces new artists like Calandra, and debuts “The Turntable,” where the hosts exchange songs to push each other outside their musical comfort zones. Between laughs, gear talk, guitar envy, and heartfelt shoutouts to the Badlands community, Dedication Week becomes a warm, nostalgic, and energizing musical hangout, proving why The Audio Files is the heartbeat of Badlands Media.

Episode Overview In this episode of The Design Vault, hosts Albert Shum and Thamer Abanami are joined by legendary producer Dan the Automator Nakamura (Gorillaz, Deltron 3030, Dr. Octagon) to explore the Technics SL-1200 MK2 — the direct drive DJ turntable that evolved from an audiophile product into a central instrument for hip hop, house, and techno DJs and producers. From Konosuke Matsushita's long-term “250-year philosophy” to Grand Wizard Theodore's scratching breakthrough, this is the story of how Japanese engineering precision met street creativity to create one of the most influential musical instruments of the late 20th century. Dan shares personal stories of witnessing a young Qbert and Mix Master Mike before fame, why the 1200 is often called the “Porsche 911 of turntables,” and how the constraints of early sampling technology shaped hip hop's signature sound. This episode is cut short because I did not graduate at the head of my class, nor do I have an audio engineering plaque to humbly present over my tower of power. I'm merely a super sick internet disc jockey that had some intense audio issues through the first two attempts recording this eppy, I had a slight panic and just didn't do a dance episode at all. I felt life pulling me in another direction so here we are with a makeshift melancholy ear beating for you, my fantastic listening audience. Thank you for being here, I might attempt the dance eppy next weekend. Until then, I remain your faithful favorite internet disc jockey..DJ Witwicky

Season 6 | Episode 8In this episode, we sit down with Jenny Boyts, President of Forty5 and the creative force behind some of Indy's most electric music experiences (The Vogue, Rock the Ruins, Turntable, Made Rock & Roll). From growing up knowing she was gay at six in a deeply evangelical family, to leading massive events and making space for voices that don't always get heard, Jenny shares how she's learned to lead loudly — and unapologetically. We talked about:-Why making people feel seen drives everything she does-What it means to stay true to yourself in a male-dominated industry-And why her story is about so much more than musichttps://www.forty5.com/
Listen to an interview with the musician and activist Taylor Hall. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so Hall chose the month of May to release her latest collection of songs, Cheaper Than Therapy. During her recent conversation with WFYI's Kyle Long, Hall said she hopes the project will help to destigmatize mental health and provide her fans with a message of hope. Also hear a conversation with Jenny Boyts, CEO of Forty5, a locally owned Indianapolis production company specializing in live music events. Forty5 owns and operates local venues including The Vogue and Turntable, and produces live concert series like Rock the Ruins at Holiday Park. Boyts rose to prominence in Indianapolis through her work with Indy Pride, serving as Indy Pride's board president for 4 years. Boyts says the relationships she created while building community with Indy Pride have informed her work with Forty5.
Audio-Technica released the AT-LPA2, a transparent turntable with a high-density acrylic chassis and platter designed to dampen vibrations and improve sound quality. The power supply and playback controls are separated into a different unit to reduce electrical interference. The turntable uses a belt-driven system with an optical sensor for consistent speed and features a redesigned carbon fiber tone arm with interchangeable counterweights for cartridge compatibility. The AT-LPA2 is priced at $2,000 and is available widely, following the limited-edition AT-LP2022 model.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast.
