A working man. A man who works… to free his boss' daughter from the clutches of a human trafficking ring. Gabrus joins Jake and Julian as we attempt to make sense of this very puzzling film starring Jason Statham and co-written by none other than Sylvestor Stallone. They've come together to make an awful mess, complete with mobsters straight out of Grand Theft Auto and the Russian bad guy equivalent of Beebop and Rocksteady. Gabrus also talks about his experience seeing the film in 4D. Jon Gabrus can't wait to be an off-the-grid, shirtless retiree living on a tropical island, and he tells aunties how little lifestyle changes are inching him there. Some new camping gear is bringing this Long Island boy back in touch with his outdoorsy roots. Simultaneously, he's shirking formality rules with some comfy pants that you can't even tell are elastic. Plus, he shares some “Gabrus math” about why you should wear speedos (if it makes you feel better). This episode was recorded prior to the end of the Writer's Guild of America strike. It's a full on “Speed” situation as they need to keep a city bus from dropping below 56 miles per hour to avoid detonating a bomb. What would you do? Try to negotiate? Blow through a window and jump to safety? Sling yourself under the bus and try to defuse the bomb?! We'll explore what Gabrus thinks he'd do if he was thrust into one of Hollywood's most panic-inducing action movies and hear what the FBI recommends. Adam Pally (Happy Endings, The Mindy Project) latest comedic role is in the charming but hilarious, Who Invited Charlie. Pally plays Charlie, a down-and-out, comfortably clothed guy that bumps into his college roommate in a weird (could only happen in NYC) way. After seeing his friend, who drops his wallet in a scuffle, COVID hits. Charlie has the idea to follow his friend (without an invitation) to his lovely Hamptons house, where they are all seeking refuge from the pandemic. As you can imagine, chaos ensues. While COVID is a topic in the film, it is not its focus. This movie focuses on relationships, whether they be platonic or romantic. At the core, this movie shows you that all is not what it seems, and no matter how lost you feel, there is always hope -- it's also laugh-out-loud funny. Pally talks about what drew him into playing the character, some of his favorite moments on set, and how proud he is to be a part of this project. This is a must-see film. In addition to this fantastic movie, Pally has joined forces with a friend of over 25 years, Jon Gabrus, in a series called 101 Places to Party Before You Die. This reality show takes the two best friends and brings them to the most random towns for 72 hours to see, eat, drink, smoke, and do anything else they can while they are there. Gabrus and Pally have such easy chemistry, each episode makes you feel like you are traveling with them. You want to go where they go and eat where they eat. Fans have done just that. Everyone is campaigning for a season two because, let's face it, we all want to hang out with them. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Polina Jdanova Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Who Invited Charlie: Follows a New York City family hiding out in the Hamptons whose bubble is popped when a Bloody Mary-swilling, pot-smoking 'Charlie' comes to bring a lifetime of hurt that might heal them all *This film can currently be screened at a local film festival near you. Check out the film's Instagram account and Pally's social media for updates on new showings. 101 Places to Party Before You Die: Accidental travel hosts, Pally and Gabrus, are given family-sanctioned three-day weekend escapes venturing across the U.S. to different destinations to experience everything they have to offer. *All episodes of 101 Places to Party Before You Die can be streamed on HBO Max. Jon Gabrus didn't realize he had spent his entire comedy career preparing to travel around the country getting wasted and being hilarious on camera. But that's exactly what he has ended up doing, along with his best friend and co-host Adam Pally, in their new truTV series ‘101 Places to Party Before You Die.' In this episode, Gabrus talks about landing his “dream job” as a travel host and explains why the “before you die” in the show's title resonates with him so deeply. He also talks about the origins of his incompetent intern character Gino Lombardo on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast, tells the story of his embarrassingly terrible ‘Veep' audition in front of his comedy crush Julia-Louis Dreyfus and reveals why he once quit smoking pot in hopes of joining the FBI. We talk about how becoming a stoner changed his approach to comedy, and his favorite weed scene from a movie. Then we make plans to assemble a cannabis heist crew to take on an overclocked Volcano vaporizer. Well, well, well - if it isn't last season's Newcomers host Gabrus, reunited with Lauren and Nicole once again, not unlike the way the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy join forces in this week's MCU installment. We totally planned it that way! Join us, and them, as they fight to protect all the Infinity Stones (not unlike Croc Jibbitz) from the evil grasp of evil Thanos. Next week's movie: Captain Marvel (2019) Like the show? Rate Newcomers 5 stars on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and leave a review for Nicole and Lauren to read on the pod! He talks to Solomon about the secret child in his family and about his past jobs that sound more "fun" than they were—even though he got some stories out of them! Today's guest is Jon Gabrus, a comedian (MTV's Guy Code, Comedy Bang! Bang!, TVLand's Younger) and a podcast expert (High and Mighty, ActionBoyz, Raised By TV). He is from Long Island. But we don't talk about that stuff. Instead, we talk about something Gabrus is trying to do: read more. Gabrus is both a nerd and a meathead, and we talk about how fantasy books by R.A. Salvatore got him into reading, and Stephen King's "The Stand" taught him that he could conquer any book he set his mind to. We talk about how to make time for reading when surrounded by distractions, and Gabrus recommends a couple books to check out if you're looking to get excited about reading again. This is the final "Try!" podcast of 2020, we'll see you in 2021 with more new episodes.
