Pretentious hospitality is a profit killer. When consumers feel intimidated by an industry, they simply lock their wallets and walk away. The global wine and champagne industry has spent decades building cardboard walls of elite terminology and black-tie dress codes, accidentally alienating the modern diner who just wants an incredible experience. We sit down with Aaron Walters, chef and owner of Muselet Champagne Bar, to see how he is completely dismantling the traditional wine bar format in downtown Bentonville. We get into the technical mechanics of champagne production and why the standard glass flute is actually destroying your sensory experience. Aaron Walters maps out his journey from working as a high-end private chef across Hawaii and Alaska to navigating the gritty realities of local distribution networks. We dive deep into the technical execution behind their menu staples, examining their three-day buttermilk sous vide fried chicken process and why using a rice flour starch blend prevents oil absorption. We also get a breakdown of the business metrics behind their viral "bong and a bump" menu item, which paired high-quality caviar with high-speed delivery to move over fifteen hundred orders in just a few months.Aaron Walters opens up about managing inventory overhead when menus pivot weekly due to seasonal ingredient shifts, like transitioning from a winter truffle risotto to a spring carrot puree. You will walk away with a completely fresh perspective on old-world pairings, a breakdown of how professional preservation systems keep sparkling bottles fresh for three weeks, and a warning against the low-grade sparkling wines disguised as high-end luxury. What is the most unconventional food and beverage pairing you have ever tried that actually worked? Let us know in the comments below.
This week on the podcast, Kaitlyn and Missy are sharing the random things they're fully pretentious about and honestly… some of them might be justified. From little everyday opinions to oddly specific preferences, they're saying it all out loud and reading through listener submissions that made them laugh way too hard. They also catch up with a life update, chat about what's been going on lately, and of course end the episode by sharing something they're currently loving and influencing everyone to buy/watch/try. It's a fun, chatty episode that feels like hanging out with your friends while judging sparkling water flavors and defending your very specific opinions.
Episode 3 - Jack and Rob reflect on seeing Iggy Pop, Sex Pistols, and Nine Inch Nails concerts and the bizarre experience of attending big box shows vs. seeing your friends' band at a DIY space. Why are people in the punk scene so obsessed with collecting records? The definitions of the German words “Jein” and the mystery of “Fremdschamen”.

THE FOUNTAIN (2006) is one of the most ambitious, polarizing, and misunderstood films of the 21st century. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, the film weaves together three timelines: a conquistador's quest for eternal life, a modern scientist racing against death, and a cosmic traveler drifting toward transcendence, which all bound by love, grief, and humanity's refusal to accept mortality. This week on the podcast, Patrick and Tracy welcome Sara Raasch, author of The Entanglement of Rival Wizards. About The Entanglement of Rival Wizards: Sebastian Walsh: Evocation Department. Human. The first of his family to pick college over the military. Elethior Tourael: Conjuration Department. Half-elf. Pretentious asshole. The latest legacy Tourael at Lesiara U. Both: Mageus Research Grant finalists. Sebastian refuses to let anyone snatch this away, least of all a snob riding on old money. But what's worse than a nemesis stealing your grant? You could both get it. Under the condition you work together. Sebastian is in hell. Thio's broody. Takes up their shared lab space with his projects . . . and biceps. Brings treats for Sebastian's familiar . . . . . . and is nothing like Sebastian thought. When Sebastian's past with the Touraels forces him to choose his research or Thio, the decision should be simple. But while working with his rival is volatile . . . falling for his rival might blow up Sebastian's future. About Sara Raasch: Sara Raasch has known she was destined for bookish things since the age of five, when her friends had a lemonade stand and she tagged along to sell her hand-drawn picture books too. Not much has changed since then — her friends still cock concerned eyebrows when she attempts to draw things and her enthusiasm for the written word still drives her to extreme measures. She is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of multiple books for teens, including the historical romantasy duology WITCH AND HUNTER, cowritten with Beth Revis; as well as romances for adults, such as THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE KISSMAS, GO LUCK YOURSELF, and THE ENTANGLEMENT OF RIVAL WIZARDS. Some fantasy novels win awards, earn glowing reviews, and get called “masterpieces” by critics… but when actual fans picked them up? They cried, “Boring!” “Pretentious!” and “I want my weekend back!”In this episode of Fantasy for the Ages, Jim counts down 10 fantasy novels since 1930 that critics adored but general readers couldn't stand. From sprawling gothic castles to postmodern fever dreams, these are the books that divided the book world like no others.

In this throwback episode recorded at VoD 2023, hosts Kevin and Zach are joined by Dr. Dan Smith from Tennessee to tackle dental myths and share clinical tips. Dan debunks the idea that the highly aesthetic and intricately detailed posterior composite restorations often seen on social media are inherently superior in longevity or patient benefit to a well-executed, standard composite. While acknowledging the beauty and skill involved in creating "tertiary anatomy," the group discusses where to draw the line between practical, quality dentistry and "dental Facebook porn." They agree that while such impressive work can inspire dentists to improve their skills, key factors like proper isolation and a good seal are far more critical for clinical success than elaborate staining and carving that patients may not even notice. Dr. Smith also offers a pro-tip for those interested in adding detailed anatomy, suggesting the use of fine diamond bur kits from companies like Brasseler.
