Representing Philadelphia, the rap trio of Tajj, Tarik, and Qu'ran known has Da Youngstas released their 3rd LP titled No Mercy in 1994. This album marked a time of growth for the group who started as kid rappers. Da Youngstas put forth a more mature sound with great production handled mostly by Marley Marl and K-Def that many hip-hop fans believe is the best in their discography. https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=ZT-8wexjk9ZlfC&_r=1 https://www.facebook.com/share/16Ya6yiEWp/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Sampling isn't a new concept—it's been around for decades. But its roots in hip-hop and R&B can be traced back to the 1970s and 1980s, when DJs and producers in New York City began experimenting with turntables and drum machines. One of the earliest examples of sampling comes from the legendary DJ Kool Herc, who's often credited as one of the founding fathers of hip-hop. Herc would isolate the *breakbeat*—the part of a song where the drums take center stage—and loop it to keep the party going. This technique laid the groundwork for what we now know as sampling. But it wasn't just about looping beats. Producers like Marley Marl, J Dilla, and later, Pete Rock and Dr. Dre, began taking snippets of vocals, horns, and basslines from soul, funk, and R&B records, and weaving them into entirely new compositions. Sampling became a way to pay homage to the past while creating something fresh and innovative. Of course, with innovation came controversy. As sampling grew in popularity, so did legal battles over copyright and ownership. Artists and record labels began suing producers for using their music without permission, leading to stricter laws and higher costs for clearing samples. But despite these challenges, sampling has remained a vital part of music production. Join me for this episode where we will explore the impact of DJ Kool Herc and some popular samples.

Hey! We've reached episode 80, and Jon was recently asked to DJ an 80s party, so he decided to do something special, go back to the stuff he grew up on in the 80s. Yep, that Old School Rap/Hip Hop. As Jon tells it, this is the music that made him want to be a DJ. So many days and nights were spent riding around in a lowrider with 15 inch Kicker woofers bumping this very music right here. This mix is perfect for the old school heads out there ane even the new folks who need an education in real Hip Hop. The mix includes tracks by Ice T, Fat Boys, Biz Markie, Kid N Play Doug E Fresh, Heavy D & The Boys, Special Ed, Eric B & Rakim, X-Clan, Run-Dmc, 3rd Bass, EPMD, BDP w/KRS-ONE, UTFO, Marley Marl, and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. As always, enjoy the journey and if you like what you're hearing, like, share and comment.
When you think of the best hip-hop albums, many come to mind. However one that should, but is often forgotten is the 1993 debut album from Lords Of The Underground, titled Here Come the Lords. Produced by the legendary Marley Marl, underrated K-Def rappers Doitall and Mr. Funke, along with DJ Lord Jazz, they bring their high energy and lyrical skills that are a match made in heaven over their rugged beats. Their ability to rap crazy, like on the track Psycho, or add humor like we hear on Sleep for Dinner, make this an entertaining album that belongs in the conversation about best hip-hop albums of all time.
Unlock your confidence and always use the right tools for the job with MANSCAPED™.Kev Brown's Website - https://officialkevbrown.com/Hailing from Landover, MD, Kevin Brown, aka Kev Brown, got his first exposure to hip-hop when he heard his brother's copy of the 1986 Run-D.M.C. album Raising Hell, though he didn't begin to heavily immerse himself in the genre until he was in high school in the early '90s. Soon he began writing his own rhymes, but quickly found that his true talents lay in production. In 2001 famed beat-maker Pete Rock played a track Brown did with rapper Grap Luva, "What Ruling Means," for Marley Marl, who was so impressed with what he heard that he included the song on his album Re-Entry, which came out that same year. That led to work with De La Soul and DJ Jazzy Jeff, but it wasn't until 2004, when The Brown Album, his remixed version of Jay-Z's The Black Album (which came before Danger Mouse's The Grey Album), hit the streets that Brown started to receive real attention. After a succession of collaborations and singles, Kev released his solo debut, I Do What I Do, in 2005. The album, which was released on Up Above Records, had the producer rapping at least one verse on each of the 13 songs, as well as featuring guest MCs from his crew, the D.C.-area-based Low Budget, and Phonte Coleman from Little Brother. Plus, how his career has changed now that he's in his 50s.

It's the first episode of Season 4, episode 37. A last minute cancellation turns into a visit from Mr. Dibbs. Dibbs = good time and on this episode what was supposed to be a short 15 minute episode where Tai, Adrienne and Dibbs share their top 3 favorite musicians and top 3 favorite movies, turned into a 4 hour long discussion about many things and even includes a pop-in from Slug & Dibb's better half, Laura. We managed to trim the episode down to an hour and a half. Deja-vu! Tai just doodles in this episode while they end up having discussions about lab grown meat, Walmart, Outer Range, Bulldogs, Josh Brolin, Denzel Washington, knives, brass knuckles, Ka, highest price paid for a record and Chipotle....and Slug drops in inverted. An hour & and half or more was chopped from the episode that broadcasts, so even though you'll miss out on a ton of laughs from that, you can be assured that you're gonna still have a great time listening in to the hour and a half that we're presenting ya with. B. Cox commemorates Capone-N-Noreaga's debut album The War Report as it turns 25. In the midst of an identity crisis for New York rap, the two Queens natives arrived on the scene - unheralded, yet determined. After appearing the "Unsigned Hype" section of The Source Magazine in 1995, the duo was signed to a record label and began recording their debut. In the midst of recording, Capone was jailed for a parole violation, leaving Noreaga to finish the album. Assisted with features by the likes of Juice Crew veteran Tragedy Khadafi, Imam T.H.U.G, and Mobb Deep with a Who's Who's of hip-hop producers (Six July, Nashiem Myrick, Lord Finesse, Clark Kent, Marley Marl, Havoc, Naughty Shorts, EZ Elpee, Charlemagne), the album featured haunting, gritty and hypnotic beats over lyrics that told tales of street life and urban decay. The appeal of the group to underground and hardcore hip-hop fans alike lead to a cult success of the album. Despite no charting singles or widely circulated music videos, the album was certified gold. Since its release, it has been credited as an album that reasserted the identity and sound of New York hip-hop, laid the groundwork for the success of many who followed after it and has now been hailed as a classic - even from the most unlikely of circumstances.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comSupport The Vault Classic Music Review on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodShow NotesAlbumism: Capone-N-Noreaga's Debut Album "The War Report" turns 25 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/tribute-celebrating-25-years-of-capone-n-noreaga-the-war-reportThe BoomBox: Capone-N-Noreaga's "The War Report" Brought Listeners to the Frontlines of the streetshttps://theboombox.com/capone-n-noreagas-the-war-report-20-years-later/Vibe: 20 Years Later: A Ranking of Capone-N-Noreaga's Classic Debut "The War Report" https://www.vibe.com/music/music-news/capone-n-noreaga-the-war-report-20-years-519554/WhatWentRight: What Went Right With...The War Report by Capone-N-Noreaga? https://whatwentrightwith.com/2017/06/17/what-went-right-with-the-war-report-by-capone-n-noreaga/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Before he was Big Daddy Kane, the legendary MC who broke out big in the late 80s, he was just Antonio Hardy, the kid from Brooklyn who heard something new coming out of the turntables at the block party. It was the sound of hip-hop coming of age, and Kane was coming up with it. Soon, he'd be writing his own rhymes and traveling to other boroughs to battle their best MCs.Big Daddy Kane would go on to become one of the most versatile rappers of his day, with hits like “Ain't No Half-Steppin,'” and “Smooth Operator.” He came up alongside the late great Biz Markie, and joined up with Marley Marl and the Juice Crew, establishing himself as one of the pioneers of the golden age of hip-hop.As we approach the 2022 summer season, we want to revisit our conversation with Big Daddy Kane. Trymaine Lee spoke with Kane about those early days in Brooklyn, what he can offer today's rappers, and what the forthcoming Universal Hip-Hop Museum could mean for Black culture.(Original release date: August 19, 2021)For a transcript, please visit https://www.msnbc.com/intoamerica. Dante Ross signed Pete Rock and CL Smooth to Elektra Records after becoming familiar with them through Pete Rock's promos on Marley Marl's radio show.
