Planning on doing a marathon this year? Hansons Marathon Method tosses out mega-long runs and high-mileage weekends—two old-fashioned running traditions that often injure and discourage runners. Runners using the Hansons method will gradually build-up to the moderate-high mileage required for marathon success, spreading those miles more sensibly throughout the week. Running easy days mixed with precisely paced speed, strength, and tempo workouts, runners will steel their bodies and minds to run the hardest final miles of the marathon—and finish strong. Luke Humphrey, Running Coach and the Author of Hansons Marathon Method joins me on the show today to tell us all about this novel approach to marathon training. There is two things that are certain in this life, and that is death and taxes. This week I am joined by my good friend and well known guest on this show, Luke. He is here to bring true informed consent on our taxes, and I will prepare y'all, it is painful to listen to.Both major political parties have a spending problem. There is no rational discussion being had in the halls of Congress about reckless spending. Instead, they quibble back and forth on the difference between $2.5 & $3 Trillion dollar spending packages that fund such absurd things.Subscribe and hang out with me every Wednesday to stay up to date on this show. The media has proved YET AGAIN how motive driven they are and how factual evidence is no longer important in their journalism.Kyle Rittenhouse, a young man found not-guilty on 5 different charges, was made out to be a "white supremacist," a MAGA loving, anti-BLM, blue lives matter supporting poster child. If you watched the trial, or even spent 20 minutes learning the facts of this case, you would know that is far from the truth. Sadly our media and even our own President do not seem to care about the truth anymore.I am excited to be joined by two good friends, Luke Humphrey and Matt Stabley to dive into this trial, our second amendment rights and the unfaithfulness of the media. When do we, as a country, say enough is enough with the fake news media?Subscribe and hang out with me every Wednesday to stay up to date on this show. The basis for everything that we do in America is based on trust of the government. But WHY? What if I told you there are many experiments the government has done on its people (much without consent)? Would you trust the government then? You don't have to dig very deep or go very far back into our nations history to uncover numerous cases in which the government deliberately conducted secret experiments on its people. This weeks episode I am joined by friend and fellow researcher, Luke Humphrey, to uncover many different "social experiments" done on the American people (most of which without consent). Informing yourself on the government is just as important on informing yourself on other subjects. Truly ask yourself, how informed are you on your government? Many of us remember Lorena Bobbitt as tabloid fodder from the early 90’s; a “hot-blooded Latina” who violently severed her husband’s penis and threw it out the window of a moving car. But what the media did NOT clearly expose was the history of abuse, control, and gaslighting that Lorena suffered from her spouse. In I WAS LORENA BOBBITT (2020), starring Dani Montalvo, Luke Humphrey, and Lorena herself as narrator, we learn the truth about what led up to that fateful night. We also relive the 1990’s, play F/M/K with the Colins, and get molested by a listener’s disturbing fish knowledge. This book describes a unique marathon training program developed by Kevin and Keith Hanson, and trained by coach Luke Humphrey, one of Hanson’s early students. The program is interesting as it promotes shorter long runs, and more running days, with lots of easy runs. The idea is to build up aerobic endurance through consistent volume and customized speed sessions, rather than a weekend warrior approach. Both Alan and Liz have tried it, and will describe the rationale and advice in the book, and their hands-on experience with it.If you're looking for a new plan, ideas to improve your marathon performance, or ensure you finish, this is a great book for every runner from novice to elite.

In this episode we discuss effective tapering and freshening up for the marathon as the Melbourne Marathon draws ever nearer. Lisa gets over her niggles only to develop blisters from her new shoes and mash her toes on her longest training run to-date. She records a great time in the wind at the Tan Relays, but ends the week under a dark cloud of fatigue. Brian fails to execute the first session of windsprints in his sharpening block, which results in revisions to his program for the final stages of training and tapering. Meanwhile he gets through the biggest Fartlek Friday of the program and spends close to three hours on feet during his final very long run. Brian develops a sore foot, makes a mistake in training, but manages to finish the week in one piece by backing off the pace. Lisa's week was one of her best finishing up with a speedy two hour long run that felt better the longer she went. We talk about the elements of a successful marathon training plan and Lisa describes her training program leading into the 2018 NYC Marathon. Brian questions whether Lisa has built enough recovery and easy running into her strategy, and we debate the optimal length of a marathon pace simulation run. Resources and references discussed in this episode: Advanced Marathoning by Pfitzinger and Douglas, Running to the Top by Arthur Lydiard, Hansons Marathon Method by Luke Humphrey. In today's episode we talked about Exploring outside your bubble, Ancient history and we interview Luke Humphrey from The Money Charity.
Luke Humphrey is many things; a member of several top 25 NCAA cross country teams, a 2:14:38 marathoner, and a three-time Olympic trial qualifier. He is also an advocate and coach who uses the Hansons Marathon Method to help runners of all abilities reach their running goals. Luke sits down with Rob to discuss his history in the sport and the nuances of the Hansons Method, which is outlined in the books he has co-authored with Keith and Kevin Hanson.
Luke Humphrey (Twitter) is a professional runner with the Hanson-Brooks Running team and the owner and head coach of Hanson Coaching Services. In this interview we talk to the Coach about how he got into running, what advice he has for busy athletes and his take on the state of the U.S. men's marathon scene. :45 How did you get your start in running? 2:40 What advice do you have for college runners who want to run post-collegiately? 5:25 What made you decide to transition from a professional runner to the owner and head coach at Hanson Coaching Services? 7:05 You have recently launched a new coaching site, Hanson Coaching Services, can you tell us about the new site and who the site and training is geared towards? 9:30 The Hanson Training system is a very well know and respected program inside the marathon and distance community. What made you decide to write a book about it? 10:45 Could you tell a new runner who has maybe not heard about what Keith and Kevin Hanson teach what makes your program training different? 12:00 As marathoning becomes more popular, more and more new first timers are turning to the challenge of running the marathon. For a new runner, who may be looking to finish a marathon to help raise money for their favorite charity, what advice would you have for them for going to from maybe 20-25 miles a week to a 26.2 in one session? 13:45 What type of weekly progression for the long run do you recommend for that 20-25 mile week runner? 16:25 Many of these recreational runners may have a spouse and three kids. They have work meetings in the morning, they have kids baseball games at night and just live busy lives. What advice do you have for someone who is finding a hard time creating the time to train to structure a weekly plan? 20:20 That runner is now running five days a week, of course, mileage will differ, but what would a typical training week look like on five days a week? 21:40 Looking at the U.S. Marathon scene, on the guys side, we have not seen a U.S. man go below 2:08 since Ritzenhein did it in 2012. Where do you see the future of the US Men’s team marathon runners in the next few years? 23:05 Of course Hanson-Brooks has Des Linden who will be running the Olympic marathon on the women’s side, how is she looking? 23:45A question that came in from Twitter, follow us @FinalSurge, have you thought about writing a book for a 5k runner and what differences would a book for a 5k training method have that is different than what is you your book. 25:40 A second question that came in, How would you modify the basic plan to have only two SOS sessions per week (master/veteran asking)? And maybe we need to explain what an SOS (Something of Substance) day is. 28:35 Can you let us know how you are using Final Surge to help your coaching clients? 29:55 You have made training plans available to purchase through Final Surge, who are those plans geared towards more of a beginner or an experienced runner.
We welcomed Luke Humphrey, Pastoral Resident for Community Life at College Park Church, to deliver the message from God's Word.
