When I asked Emily to come on the show I knew it would be a good one! Emily has been crushing it in the running space and beyond for so long and I couldn't wait to sit down with her! Although I was super energized to speak with her…I didn't know I was walking into a life coaching session! I took so many notes during our convo…not so I could tell yall, but for me to keep pushing myself to be better. So many GEMS in this one. Make sure you have a pen handy! Finally got Nikki Hiltz on the show!!! I had been wanting to talk to them for like a year now but they were way too busy tearing up the circuit! Nikki is a true champion! During their journey, not only have they risen to the top of the sport and had a 2023 practically second to none, Nikki has shouldered some of the burden of making change in a sport that so desperately needed it. We discussed the Nikki's last couple years, how coming out as gay differed drastically from coming out as trans/nonbinary, support systems and Pride 5K. Note to Nikki - Thank you for all you have done and are doing in an industry/sport that doesn't seem to like change at times. You are giving a voice to so many people! Each step you make for and with the LGTBQ+ community is also a step for other underrepresented and underserved communities! And for that I'd like to say thank you!
The queen of running social media graced us with her presence!!! Erin Azar aka ImMrsSpaceCadet! Erin took running by storm a few years ago with her content focusing on connecting with other folks that love running yet find it to be a struggle…calling herself a Pro Struggle Runner. Her content literally BLEW UP! Fast forward she is a host of a podcast sponsored by Red Bull, she's been on the Today Show, works with the USATF making content with some of the worlds greatest athletes, and crushing it on Instagram and TikTok! This episode is different than you might expect…I walked away with so many takeaways and tips I am going to work to implement in life! This was a fun one but kinda deep too! I liked Erin before but now…I feel like I just gained a new friend! Go follow Erin on IG https://instagram.com/immrsspacecadet?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Fresh off a flight from Europe and fresh off an amazing 9th place finish at the 2023 World Athletics Championship Marathon in Budapest! My favorite two parts of this episode were finally getting an understanding of how to use gray vs grey and learning a bit more about how Lindsay has used patience in her career and in her races to succeed! If you are already following Lindsay's journey you'll love this episode…if she is new to you…you'll love this episode! Be sure to follow her on IG https://instagram.com/lindsay_flanagan24?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Thanks for listening! Drop a comment, like this episode, share with a friend, and be sure to subscribe!
Such a fun episode! Had Keira back on the show after almost a year! In that year she has done so many amazing things on the roads! Crushing races and most recently snagging the American Women's Half Marathon record with a time of 1:06:39! As she prepares to run for Team USA at 2023 World Championships in Budapest she spent some time with me catching up, talking about workouts, running tips, family, balance, answered some questions from her fans on Instagram and just had some all around fun! Be sure to watch her next marathon in Budapest! Go KEIRA!
Got a chance to catch up to American distance runner Nico Montanez! Nick has been selected as one of the three marathoners to represent the US at The World Championships in Budapest this summer! Nico started running around the middle school age like most of the professional athletes we love to watch on TV but his backstory is so much different than most. In fact, his energy and backstory is the main reason I wanted to chat with him! I was not disappointed! The way Nico approaches life with gratitude is not only admirable….it's inspirational. So many nuggets in here about life. How to be self aware but approach yourself with grace. How to fight self doubt and feelings/actions that are self sabotaging in nature. We obviously talked about running a bit and how awesome it's been to be in Mammoth with a legend, Deena Kastor. AND OBVIOUSLY some about that little thing he is doing this summer in Budapest called World Champs! Go follow Nico on Instagram and cheer for him in Budapest!!!
Such a dope lady!!! Makenna was so fun to talk to! So down to earth but at the same time super inspiring! *had some technical difficulties with this one so please bear with me. Ben Rosario is the Executive Director of the professional distance running team, NAZ Elite. Ben has literally done everything in and around the sport from an elite professional running himself, to coaching youth, founding NAZ Elite, coaching the pros, working with HOKA through this team for product development…all the way to the position he holds now. We had some technical difficulties during the recording of this episode but Ben is nonetheless full of gems for running and life! I find it fascinating that it seems like everywhere he has gone, including in grade school, he ends of leading and/or building something. Along this journey of life and sport Ben has done a beautiful job at living, learning and evolving to better himself and the people around him. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed kickin it with Ben!
To celebrate 100 episodes I wanted to do something special “to me”. Something that felt right. So I had my mom on the show! We talked about we I started running, the importance of community, raising Tommie Runz, how GaryIsARunner caused my stress fracture, her favorite shows, and more! This was somewhat of a candid convo, or at least it felt like it. I've never had an issue phrasing a question until this episode. To be honest, this conversation was somewhat therapeutic as we haven't really discussed some of this stuff before…ever (my fault not hers). Hope you enjoy and thanks for supporting as always!
For the second time Erika Kemp graced the show with her presence. Just a couple days after running making her debut in the marathon in a time of 2:33:57 in the 127th Boston Marathon. Post amputation, Jacky has challenged herself to great lengths and inspired so many people along the way. Refusing the let being an amputee keep her from living her best life…she forced the issue. She has the record for most consecutive days running a marathon each day…104 days in a row!!!! Jacky has completed countless ultramarathons and trail races. Most recently ran a multi day 200 mile race around a 1.2 mile loop!!!!!! BONKERS! Ken Rideout (dad, husband, investment banker, recovering addict, best masters marathon in the world!) Ken graced the show with his presence and energy! This is a good one! We talked about quite a bit in this episode but one thing that stuck with me was this guys determination! They are thoughtful, on point and hilarious! Sometimes running can get a bit serious and uptight…but Laura has been doing a great job at poking a little fun. Her humor regarding the running world is what we have all been thinking about running, marathons, brands and even running podcasters/personalities. Be sure to follow Laura on IG @lauramcgreen
