We chat to Manchester United legend Brian McClair about his memories of playing in the 3-0 defeat to York City at Old Trafford in 1995. Find out why Brian still blames himself for the result, who was given the hairdryer treatment by Sir Alex Ferguson after the game, and whether there was any regrets that the loss meant United missed out on a domestic treble that season. Something a bit different for you today… footballer, podcaster – I can't recommend his Life With Brian podcast highly enough – and one of my childhood heroes, Manchester United, Celtic and Scotland football legend Brian McClair! We get into the music taste of Eric Cantona, Brian's punk days, why he regularly lied to Shoot magazine, Gary Pallister's dalliance with Joy Division, why Bryan Robson thought Brian's taste in music was weird, that massive scrap with Arsenal's Nigel Winterburn, the managerial style of Sir Alex Ferguson… all sorts of stuff. Somewhere on the astral plane, my ten year old self is kicking himself that he got to record this episode! We finally pinned down former Motherwell, Celtic, Manchester United and Scotland striker Brian McClair for this extended look back at three separate Shoot and Match interviews of his from the 1980s. When 'Choccy' wasn't banging in the goals at Parkhead and Old Trafford, he kept himself (and now us) entertained by providing a steady stream of misinformation in these old player profiles. Hopefully he's given us some straight answers as we discuss - amongst other things - collecting matchboxes, supporting Liechtenstein, meeting Idi Amin and why Alex Ferguson is funnier than you think. Former Celtic striker and Manchester United cult hero Brian McClair is the latest inductee into the 90's Football Hall of Fame. Nicknamed "Choccy" by his teammates because his surname is reminiscent of a chocolate eclair, the Scot enjoyed a trophy-laden decade at Old Trafford where he scored 127 goals and provided 49 assists. McClair joined United after shining for Celtic, where he scored a phenomenal 126 goals in 204 appearances, before going on to win nine major trophies, including four Premier Leagues and the European Cup Winners' Cup. On the latest episode of the 90's Football Hall of Fame show, we were joined by football writer David Sneyd to discuss Brian McClair's prolific scoring record, his dry sense of humour, and the famous Choccy's Diaries in which he often made stuff up about his teammates. We also chat about his seamless evolution from star forward to shadow striker to midfielder, why he had an underwhelming international career, and the "rave going on in his head". The rain was coming down is sheets as we sat in Arturos, a cafe in Mount Florida. Brian gave me the time of day before going to coach a session at lesser Hampden which he does every Friday. He sat with a glint in his eye as we spoke about life and the beautiful game, we touched on his journey from a kid on the streets to playing in some of the most well known stadiums in world football. Celtic Park, Old Trafford and Hampden are some of the stadiums he had the privilege of calling home during his career. We also speak about his transition to coaching and his thoughts on todays managers, most notably Mourinho who was United's manager at the time. Brian is a genuine, humble guy who loves this game of ours. I could have spoken to him for days never mind hours about football. Please Enjoy Bye Now

Brian McClair was a fascinatingly successful striker for Celtic during the mid 80s. Considered a genuine talent, his time is not really recalled as much as others during the same era. Four years at Celtic Park, the home of his boyhood heroes, saw him return a fantastic amount of goals and assists. On this episode we detail those 4 years. This week St Anthony returns with another former hero as his guest. Danny Crainie got his big chance at Celtic due to a big break - the leg breaks of Nicholas and McGarvey and he grabbed it with both hands. The return of Nicholas and McGarvey limited his game time and then with a change of manager from McNeil to Hay and the arrival of McClair and Melrose it became time for Danny to move on. Danny was at the club in that time when the challenge to us came not from the south of the city but the North East of Scotland...imagine that! Enjoy!
