She will be headlining at the Country to Country Festival at the O2 in London this weekend. The first woman to be leading jockey at the Cheltenham Festival with six victories, including the Champion Hurdle, and the following year she became the first female jockey to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Yesterday, she continued to make history winning the Stayers' Hurdle aboard Bob Olinger to complete a Cheltenham Festival double. Gittaristurin Ritchie Blackmore var farin úr Deep Purple og fyrsta ætlanin var at innspæla ein singleplátu sum solistur. A-síðan skuldi vera ein endurinnspæling av Black Sheep Of The Family, ið enska trioin Quartermass átti. Sum B-síðu ætlaði hann Sixteenth Century Greensleeves, ið var nýkomponerað lag. Eisini var fyrrverandi E.L.O.-sellospælarin, Hugh McDowell, við á studioliðnum. Men stutt seinni broytti Ritchie Blackmore útgávuætlanina frá einari singleplátu til eina heila Long Playing. Hann fekk teir eftirverandi limirnar í ELF at koma uppí dansin eisini; tangentspælaran Micky Lee Soule, og bassistin Craig Gruber, og upptøkan var flutt úr USA til Musicland Studios í Múnsjen, Týsklandi. Tá hann sum 67 ára gamal doyði í 2010, hevði hann selt 47 millónir album eintøk - bæði sum bólkalimur og solistur. Í Rainbow var hann við á teimum trimum fyrstu studioplátunum, umframt konsertplátuni On Stage (og øðrum konsertplátum, ið givnar vórðu út seinni), og síðani skiltust hann og Blackmore. This was something of a musical departure for Bonnet, who had previously identified himself more as an R&B singer. Bonnet would later credit his time in Rainbow and his collaboration with Blackmore, in particular, as fundamentally changing his musical outlook to a more hard rock focus. He sang on the Down to Earth LP, which would become his most successful album. It spawned two hit singles in 1979 and 1980: "Since You Been Gone" and "All Night Long". During Bonnet's time in the band, Rainbow also headlined the inaugural Monsters of Rock festival at Donington Park, Castle Donington.

Tonight, we'll read the opening to “Lorna Doone, a Romance of Exmoor”, a novel published in 1869 and written by English author Richard Doodridge Blackmore. Snoozecast first read this one back in 2020. This book is based on a group of historical characters set in the late 17th century. John Ridd is the son of a farmer who is murdered by a member of the Doone clan. The Doone's were once noble but now outlaws. John falls in love with a girl named Lorna who turns out to be from this very clan he loathes.   The backdrop of "Lorna Doone" is the rugged and isolated region of Exmoor in England. This setting plays a crucial role in the novel, influencing the characters' lives and shaping the plot's dramatic events. Blackmore's vivid descriptions of the landscape transport readers to a world of windswept moors, treacherous bogs, and hidden valleys, adding a layer of atmosphere and suspense to the narrative. Lorna Doone is also a brand of rectangular shortbread cookies you may find in the grocery store today. Introduced in 1912, it was possibly named after the main character in tonight's episode, but no record exists as to the exact motivation behind the name. The association with the romantic and adventurous heroine of the classic novel likely added a touch of allure and nostalgia to the cookie brand, which originated from an Irish-American bakery in Chicago, Illinois. read by -V- Learn more about your ad choices. Kate Blackmore's feature length film debut, Make It Look Real, navigates the intricacies of utilising an intimacy coordinator on the set of a film. Kate follows intimacy coordinator Claire Warden as she embarks on the collaborative process of presenting sex on screen for Kieran Darcy-Smith's film Tightrope, which features three Australian actors who each are asked to simulate sex on screen in different ways.Throughout Make It Look Real, we see frank and open conversations between Claire, actors Sarah Roberts, Albert Mwangi, and Tom Davis, about the purpose of the sex scenes employed in Tightrope and how they play into the characters narratives. Then, we see conversations with Claire and Kieran and hear how they negotiate the progression of the narrative, leading Kieran to reflect on the third act threesome he had planned. In between these discussions, Claire and Kate take audiences on a journey through film history where we hear from actresses who have pushed themselves to unnecessary and unsafe places to work through a scene that features nudity or simulated sex scenes. What results is a documentary that takes a holistic approach to intimacy coordination and proposes a safer, more inclusive future where the rights and safety of the actors is considered on a foundational level. In the following interview, Kate talks through the process of intimacy coordination, how the concept of utilising a constructed film like Tightrope came about, and what Kate has experienced as a creative who has explored ideas like representation on screen and how that intertwines with body autonomy and respect. Kate also talks about how she hopes a film like Make It Look Real will be received by audiences.Make It Look Real is an Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund production and will premiere at the festival on Saturday 26 October where Kate, Sarah, Albert, and producer Bethany Bruce will be in attendance. Hello Scaling UP! Nation, August is Legionella Awareness Month, and we're excited to bring you in-depth insights on this crucial topic. Usually, we bring you four episodes every August, but this year, you're in luck! With five Fridays this month, we have five episodes packed with valuable information for you. Today, podcast host Trace Blackmore, CWT, is here to answer your pressing questions about Legionella. As industrial water treaters, you are the heroes in the fight against Legionella, protecting your communities and clients against this dangerous bacteria. Scaling up your Legionella knowledge is a great way to celebrate Legionella Awareness Month, and to support you, we've created a free Legionella resources page at www.ScalingUpH2o.com/Legionella Understanding Legionella: Common Questions Answered What is the difference between Legionella and Legionnaires' disease? Legionella is a bacteria responsible for Legionnaires' disease, a type of pneumonia that comes from getting ill after being exposed to Legionella. It thrives in water and poses significant health risks. Legionnaires' disease was discovered in the mid 1970's after several attendees of the American Legion convention got sick after attending the convention. How does a person get Legionnaires' disease? Inhaling water contaminated with Legionella bacteria can lead to infection. What are the symptoms of Pontiac Fever or Legionnaires' disease? Early symptoms mimic the flu, but more severe pneumonia-like symptoms can develop. Look out for high fever, cough, difficulty breathing, chills, and diarrhea.  How common is Legionnaires' disease? Per the CDC, in 2015 there were approximately 6,000 cases reported in the United States. Who is at higher risk for developing Legionnaires' disease? While most people have resistance, fewer than 5 in 100 exposed individuals may develop the disease. High-risk groups include older adults, smokers, and those with weakened immune systems. How does Legionella enter buildings? Legionella enters through a building's makeup water. This is why we need to test the water coming into a building's system and also set up a program to test within the system so we know what to do and respond appropriately if a test comes back positive for Legionella bacteria. What promotes Legionella growth? Biofilm, temperature fluctuations, inadequate disinfectant levels, and water stagnation within building water systems can promote Legionella growth What are Water Management Programs (WMPs)? WMPs are designed to identify hazardous conditions and minimize the growth and spread of waterborne pathogens, including Legionella, in building water systems. How Should I Discuss Legionella Testing Frequency with a Client Who Only Wants to Test Once a Year? When discussing Legionella testing with a client who only wants to test once a year, emphasize the importance of more frequent testing for safety and compliance. Here's how to approach the conversation: Encourage Regular Testing: I always encourage people to test for Legionella at least every season or quarter. Regular testing helps identify potential issues early, ensuring the safety of your water system. Refer to the Water Management Plan (WMP): It's crucial to refer back to your Water Management Plan (WMP) to understand the necessary steps if a test comes back positive for Legionella bacteria. Develop a Comprehensive Plan: Let's come up with a plan outlining what we are going to test, how often we will test, and how we will use the data. We should also decide how to handle positive results, particularly for different Legionella species. Taking some time to plan upfront will streamline the process when collecting water samples. By emphasizing the benefits of regular testing and a proactive approach, you can help clients understand the importance of more frequent Legionella testing and the value of a detailed WMP. Where can I find more information? On our Scaling UP! H2O Legionella Resources Page at www.ScalingUpH2o.com/Legionella there you'll find Legionella resources collected from the CDC, ASHRAE, OSHA, ASPE, WHO, ASSE, APIC, AIHA, ANSI, ASDWA, AWT, CMS, and others along with our prior Legionella podcast episodes, Legionella Legislation, and Legionella videos.  If you have a helpful Legionella resource not listed on our page, please reach out to our Executive Producer Corrine Drury at Corrine@Blackmore-enterprises.com and we will gladly add that to our Scaling UP! With over 30 years of experience as the host of Atlanta Morning News on WSB Radio, and inducted into the Georgia Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Scott brings unparalleled expertise and insight into the influence, accuracy, and bias of media as we approach the upcoming presidential election. Key Takeaways from the Episode The Importance of Accuracy in Journalism Scott Slade emphasizes that journalism is the first draft of history, highlighting the paramount importance of accuracy in traditional media. "It's your job to tell a balanced story, "He states, underscoring the responsibility of journalists to provide truthful and comprehensive coverage. Diversifying News Sources Slade advises against relying on a single news source, advocating for a well-rounded media diet. He champions the legitimacy and depth provided by local newspapers and stresses the need to consume news from multiple outlets to avoid the echo chamber effect. Scott advises, "Read a strong daily newspaper or two every day, even if it's online. Listen to more than one radio and TV station, and don't get caught in the echo chamber of ideas." The Dangers of Soundbites In today's fast-paced media landscape, soundbites can easily be taken out of context when there's a sensational sound bite. Scott recommends a thorough approach: "You should try to understand the who, the what, the when, the where, and the how of where that soundbite came from and why it's being used in the story.” He warns against the sensationalism that can arise from these snippets and encourages listeners to seek out the full story to grasp the context and nuances behind the headlines, and reminds us that “It's up to the journalist to make sure you (the audience) understand the context. Social Media as a News Source While social media can be a convenient way to stay informed, Slade cautions against using it as a primary news source due to its potential for inaccuracy. He suggests prioritizing more reliable and vetted sources for critical information. Scott notes, "If I had to give up something, as far as being in the know about what's really going on, I think social media would be the first thing I'd give up. It has great entertainment value but when it comes to making decisions about things where you need to really rely on what's truthful and accurate. It can come up lacking." Factors that Drive Newsworthiness Slade outlines five key news values that attract the most attention: locality, universality, celebrity involvement, conflict, and oddity. Stories that meet these criteria are more likely to engage and inform the public. Scott shares, "If your story can fill one, or even better, more of those slots, it's usually a good one." Media's Influence on Elections The Power of Perception Media has a substantial influence on shaping public perception during elections. Scott explains, "Media can present a perception of someone by what they include and what they leave out." By choosing what to include and what to omit, media outlets can significantly impact voters' views.  Upholding the Founding Fathers' Intent In a thought-provoking discussion, Slade and Blackmore touch on whether modern media upholds the First Amendment's intent. While media's role has evolved, the core responsibility of seeking and reporting truth remains unchanged. Scott remarks, "The society of professional journalists begins with seeking truth and reporting it." Advice for First-Time Voters For first-time voters feeling overwhelmed, Slade offers practical advice: "Preparation is the best remedy for stage fright. Knowledge is power." He encourages young voters to research candidates based on what matters most to them and to avoid the pitfalls of one-sided arguments. Final Thoughts This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in the intricate relationship between media and elections. Scott Slade's insights provide valuable guidance on navigating the complex media landscape, ensuring you stay informed and make well-rounded decisions as we head into the election season.   Listen to the Full Episode Don't miss this enlightening conversation with Scott Slade. The challenge is… calculate the softening capacity of your water softener based upon incoming water. Seriously, get a pen and paper or even Excel and calculate it. Does your answer match the actual setpoint on the softener? Why would you want to set the softener lower than the theoretical maximum softening capacity you just calculated? What can impact the functional softening capacity of a water softener? Is it possible for the incoming hard water quality to change over time? How could iron in the incoming water impact softening capacity? Water softeners are more complex than that enclosed vessel you see before you day after day. Learning the nuances of how it works and what can cause it to behave differently will make you a stronger water treater.    2024 Events for Water Professionals Check out our Scaling UP!
