Sign up for “Different by Design: A Retreat for Gifted, Sensitive & Neurodivergent Adults” happening January 30-31, 2026 https://retreatwithdianne.com/ Giving yourself space and calm isn't a luxury but a fundamental infrastructure quality for your life. In this episode of Someone Gets Me, Dianne A. Allen shares a conversation with Mike Parker, Founder of Liminal Coaching, about liminal state, which is the space between who you are and who you become. Listen as Mike talks about how his fascination with psychology and consciousness began in childhood, why a deep understanding of metaphors is essential to consciousness, and how he creates safe spaces for people to let their minds wander. Watch the Someone Gets Me Podcast – Unlocking The Liminal State for Healing and Clarity Did you enjoy this episode? Subscribe to the channel, tap the notification bell, and leave a comment! You can also listen to the show on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music. Mike Parker got in trouble at school when he was 14 for hypnotizing his classmates during lunch hour. Learning hypnosis from the school library was part of a lifelong interest in consciousness and the mind. He has spent all the years since looking into this extraordinary, vast mystery of thought and consciousness that we all walk around using every day. He had a parallel career, putting in mission-critical payment systems around the world, and consulting, which paid the bills. Then, about eleven years ago, life underwent a significant disruption. At that point, thirty-five years of consulting, an MBA, and a lifelong exploration of consciousness through various meditative and trance-based practices came together to create Liminal Coaching. Martyrdom of Joseph & Hyrum Smith; Brigham Young led the Saints west (D&C 135–136) by Mike Parker (Mike Parker is a long-time FAIR member who has graciously allowed us to use materials he originally prepared for the Hurricane Utah Adult Religion Class. The scripture passages covered in his lessons don't conform exactly to the Come, Follow Me reading schedule, so they will be shared here where they fit best.) Class Notes Additional Reading and Videos Alexander L. Dallin H. Oaks, “The Suppression of the Nauvoo Expositor,” Utah Law Review 9, no. 4 (Winter 1965): 862–903. Oaks argued that the Nauvoo city council's action to destroy the Expositor press was legal within the understanding of the law in Joseph's time. (This article was published twenty years before he became an apostle.) Joseph L. Lyon and David W. Michael Quinn, “The Mormon Succession Crisis of 1844,” BYU Studies 16, no. 2 (Winter 1976): 187–233. Quinn argued that Joseph did not leave clear directions on who should succeed him and this spurred a crisis that was resolved only when the majority of the Saints threw their support behind Brigham Young and the Twelve. Ronald K. Esplin, “Joseph, Brigham and the Twelve: A Succession of Continuity,” BYU Studies 21, no. 3 (Summer 1981): 301–41. Esplin countered Quinn's article by arguing that the path of succession was clear from Joseph's statements and the canonized revelations. Russel R. Rich, “Nineteenth-Century Break-offs,” Ensign, September 1979, 68–71. Rich described some of the schismatic groups that broke away from the restored Church during the Prophet Joseph's life and after his death. R. Jean Addams, “Aftermath of the Martyrdom: Aspirants to the Mantle of the Prophet Joseph Smith,” Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship 62 (2024): 335–402. Addams examines the individuals who claimed the mantle of the Joseph Smith, their motives, and the churches or organizations they founded in the decade following the death of the Prophet. Road to Carthage: A Joseph Smith Papers Podcast is an eight-part documentary miniseries that explores the history of the martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum Smith in 1844. The episodes focus on the historical events that led to the assassination of the Prophet and his brother by a mob, as well as the aftermath of that tragic event. Series host Spencer W. Cio D'Or hardly requires an introduction, having long stood as both a pillar of our scene and a source of inspiration for so many. Over the course of her singular and decades-spanning career, the Cologne-based artist has cultivated a universe of sound entirely her own, immediately recognizable yet endlessly evolving much like the work of her contemporaries and collaborators Mike Parker and Donato Dozzy. To experience Cio's music is to follow a throughline that traces the complex history of contemporary techno in a single gesture, compelled by the vast unknown and the primordial familiar in equal measure. Recalling the blurred realism of Richter's photo-paintings or the timeless intricacy of Bach's fugues, Cio's self-contained sonic world delicately reframes our own precious lifecycle, a reflection revealed through its elegant and subtractive minimalism. In collaboration with our friends at Mostra, I'm honored to share a selection from Cio D'Or's set performed at this year's edition of the Barcelona-based festival, a sublime triumph from a scholar of sound. @cio-d-or @mostrabcn Artwork by Camille Ferdinandus.

Is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) the only way to treat OCD? What if there's another evidence-based approach that works differently and might even feel more intuitive to some? In this episode of the OCD Whisperer Podcast, host Kristina Orlova brings together a panel of seasoned OCD clinicians: Mike Heady, Christina Ennabe, Mike Parker, Carl Robbins, and Bronwyn Shroyer. Together, they unpack the essentials of Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT) and how it compares to ERP. They bust common myths like whether ICBT is just arguing with your thoughts and explain how it helps people move out of imagined fears and back into reality. They also dive into when ERP might still be helpful, how ICBT handles doubt differently, and what the research says about its effectiveness. Whether you're new to ICBT or trying to figure out which approach fits you best, this conversation brings depth, clarity, and a refreshing perspective on OCD treatment. The 4 things you'll learn in today's episode: Why mixing ICBT and ERP can be confusing if you don't fully understand both How ICBT focuses on obsessional doubt rather than just intrusive thoughts What “reality sensing” really means and why it's not the same as doing exposures What the research says about ICBT's effectiveness and how it compares to ERP In This Episode [00:31] Meet the panelists [03:56] Can CBT and IBT/ICT be used together?
