For this episode we read: "Rapid crystallization of precious-metal-mineralized layers in mafic magmatic systems" (Hepworth et al., 2020). What does a computational geochemist and igneous petrologist do? Apparently, they think a lot on crystal mushes and bifurcation. Seeing mafic magmatic PGE and Cr systems from an igneous petrology perspective has its benefits and there's something in this episode for everyone interested in these systems. Separately, we also asked about his views on predatory scientific journals and their implications for geoscientists and researchers. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/geochemistea/support
Cousin Sal and the Degenerate Trifecta begin the show recapping a big weekend of Game 7's in the NBA and NHL playoffs. Parlay Kid believes the NHL playoff games have been so much better and everyone should be watching. Quickly, Eddie Spaghetti jumps on to take joy in the Rangers win over the Penguins as he is ready to move onto a different fan base than annoying crybaby Pittsburgh. Sal gave Eddie a signed Henrik Lundqvist puck at his birthday party that might have brought him good luck. The guys recap their Betaches as Sal's bet for Giannis to have the most points in Game 7 was undone by Grant Williams shooting his way to a record-setting night. As for Harry, the Toronto Maple Leafs took yet another first-round exit after he predicted they would win the Stanley Cup. Then it's more discussion of Sunday's big NBA playoff games as the Celtics/Bucks basically came down to three-point shooting and the Mavericks completely blew out the Suns on their home floor. Harry says Chris Paul deserves any criticism he is taking today including from Patrick Beverly. Next, the guys make their picks for the Eastern and Western Conference Finals as Harry thinks Marcus Smart will be the X-Factor for the Celtics in the series, while Parlay Kid loves the Mavericks and makes the argument no one is playing better than Luka right now. Then it's over to the NHL playoffs as they each make their best series bet as Sal and the Parlay Kid are split on the Tampa Bay Lighting/Florida Panther series and Brother Bri declares he's glad to be done rooting for the NY Rangers.
'Fro is back, and Bob Schmidt, of Fox Sports Radio, is talking .500 ball baby! The Cavs are on a 2-game win streak after they toppled the reigning MVP, Nikola Jokic, and his Denver Nuggets. Is this new offensive balance here to stay? Should we be concerned with Sexton's minutes. Where does Evan Mobley rank amongst his peers in the early ROY discussion. We're one week in and we've got a lot of Cavs optimism to discuss. Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel opened their show by discussing the Yankees' sweep of the White Sox over the weekend. Would it surprise you at all if we said "Mush" Parkins bet on the White Sox twice? It wasn’t all his fault though, as manager Tony La Russa still doesn’t have any idea how to utilize his bullpen. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Steve and Alex have hilarious comedian and career mush Dustin Hempstead. He tells us about how he got screwed on the first ever wager he placed in 1998, still using an old school bookie, gambling with his father, his disdain for Zion and a World Cup bad beat. If you love hearing about people losing this episode is for you.
