Today, we're sharing a special episode from our friends at the chart-topping a16z Podcast. In this conversation, a16z co-founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz dive deep into the REAL story behind the creation of Netscape—the web browser co-created by Marc that revolutionized the internet and changed the world. As Ben notes at the top, until today, this story has never been fully told either in its entirety or accurately. The two discuss Marc's early life and how it shaped his journey into technology, the pivotal moments at the University of Illinois that led to the development of Mosaic (a renegade browser that Marc developed as an undergrad), and the fierce competition and legal battles that ensued as Netscape rose to prominence. Ben and Marc also reflect on the lessons learned that still resonate in today's tech landscape (especially with AI). State policy is hugely consequential for autism families — from state Medicaid programs, to support worker wages, to health care, to guardianship, to recreation and respite. This week we bring you the audio of an NCSA webinar held on September 13, 2023 focusing on advocacy at the state level. If you'd like to see the video or slides, please see our website NCSAutism.org.We start with an intro to federal policy, with Gayle Gerdes, Health Policy Source, who is helping NCSA on voicing our positions on federal policy matters. Then our main speaker is Susan Goldstein, a dynamo mother of a young woman with severe autism who parlayed her passion for autism programs into creating Florida legislation that expanded autism services in the state, and was later elected a state representative. Today she serves as a lobbyist for the Legis Group in Florida. Susan was featured in a prior Autism Confidential podcast, and this episode greatly expands on the concepts she discussed there — with a huge abundance of advice and inspiration. Hosted by Jill Escher and Leanne Morphet, NCSA Policy Chair.

It was written by By ,  and . It was written on June 24th, 2023, Part 2 of 2       (41:52) Mark and Lisa have a spicey conversation about a Speakpipe question from a Kentucky listener who asks, whether it is better to go for the higher GPA or take the courses that you want to take in high schools   (01:00:36) Lisa continues her excellent interview with Evan Mandery, a professor at the John Jay College in the Department of Criminal Justice and he is the author of the book, “Poison Ivy”,. Evan challenges the myth of the meritocracy when it comes to elite colleges, and he exposes the hypocrisy of elite colleges. Evan has an undergraduate degree from Harvard and a law degree from Harvard, but he does not hold back what he thinks about how schools like Harvard could be doing so much more than they are doing to help society, but they often exacerbate social inequality. Evan Mandery is the author of eight books, including four novels, as well as the co-creator and executive producer of the TV series Artificial, for which he won Peabody and Emmy awards in 2019 Part 2 of 3 Preview of Part 2 v Evan talks about how we can do the best for our kids but challenge gross societal inequities. v Evan talks about the gross inequities of the unique tax breaks that elite colleges get v Evan talks about why Teach for America has been so successful v Evan challenges Lisa when she says it is hard to justify paying an IVY league tuition and working at a low paying public-school teaching job v Evan praises Bates Colleges for the work they are doing to change society v Evan talks about how legacy preferences are indefensible v Evan talks about a bill he authored to make a difference in college's fixation on the well-resourced through legislation. v Evan talks about all the ways schools like Harvard have flawed admissions practices       (01:13:00) The recommended resource is an NCSA website, NCSAsports.org. On this episode we welcome Coach Raphael Chillious of the South Kent School back to the podcast. I wanted to have Coach Chillious back to go over some of the most asked questions in the prep school and college recruiting world. In this episode we answer the following questions and more:-Is it better for a player to leave high school early to go to a prep school for multiple years, or graduate from their current school and just do a post-grad year? -What is the difference between a preferred walk-on, recruited walk-on, and walk-on? -Do college coaches prefer a player from a high school or a prep school? -Do D1 coaching staffs look at paid recruiting services i.e. NCSA? -Does it matter to college coaches what class you are playing at in New England? -Do prep schools like international players? -Some prep schools have multiple teams. What are the pros and cons of being on a second team? -Is it a true offer if you didn't get it directly from the head college coach? -What should a player include in their highlight tape?
