Despite two record-tying rounds of 62 on Friday at Royal Birkdale, Bryson DeChambeau remains the lead story yet again. Brendan, Kevin Van Valkenburg, and Joseph LaMagna went LIVE on YouTube to recap the second round of the 2026 Open Championship, only to have a two-shot penalty assessed to DeChambeau, then in second place, derail the entire show. The three reacted in real-time to the theatrics playing out on the fifth hole, where DeChambeau re-enacted his movements from earlier in the day in front of rules officials from the R&A. Kevin went to go scout out the scene on the ground, leaving Joseph and Brendan to make sense of what was unfolding. The two-shot penalty moved DeChambeau from solo second, just one shot back of Lucas Herbert, down to a tie for fifth alongside Sam Burns and Si Woo Kim. Joseph, Brendan, and PJ do highlight standout the two 62s from Burns and Herbert, as well as the continued strong play of Cameron Young and Ryan Gerard, but the majority of this episode is spent on Bryson and the ensuing ruling that could cost him his third major championship. This week on WTF Wednesdays, Gina and Amber are bringing you ten brand new Florida Man (and one Florida Woman) stories that prove truth is always, always stranger than fiction. Buckle up, because the Questionable Decision Olympics have officially begun.

The memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran was apparently signed over the weekend, but the text remains a mystery to most. Donald Trump says he'll release it and even read it himself so nobody can misunderstand it. If it's such good news, though, why not put it out right now? Israel isn't a fan of it, nor are those who believe we've abandoned the Iranian people by making a deal with the IRGC. At the same time, there may be a silent majority that cares less about the politics and more about the price at the pump. And that's what caught my attention.Since the beginning of May, with Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz, gas prices in the United States have fallen. Not by a little, but by a lot. The national average has gone from roughly $4.50 a gallon to $3.50. That happened while the strait was closed and before any memorandum of understanding was announced. The White House wasn't bragging about it. They weren't loudly telling Iran that the closure wasn't working. That made me think something else was going on.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. The most public, I'd argue, was the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The Department of Energy released more than 53 million barrels as part of a broader international effort, bringing the reserve down to its lowest level since 1983. There were also reports that the United States was helping move oil out of the Gulf using some of the same techniques Iran has historically used to evade sanctions. American production remained high. Every hint of a peace deal pushed oil prices lower. Global demand softened. China sharply reduced its purchases on the open market. Alternative routes around Hormuz became more important. Gasoline inventories improved. All of it pushed prices down.If I rank the reasons, peace-talk optimism sits at the top. Strategic reserve releases bought time. American-supported workarounds moved real barrels. Demand destruction, especially with China stepping back, reduced pressure. Improved gasoline inventories helped. Some of the more speculative theories include sanctions waivers for Iranian oil, greater tolerance for shadow-fleet shipments, and alternate export routes making Hormuz less decisive than Iran hoped.What stands out is that there were more American incentives to get to the table than Iranian ones. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a temporary band-aid. Smuggling oil out of the Gulf is risky. Every day the Strait of Hormuz remained closed carried economic and military risks. That helps explain why the White House wanted a deal. Iran had incentives too, especially if China was no longer buying at previous levels, but the balance of pressure appears different than many expected.My assumption remains what it has been for weeks: there are multiple power centers inside Iran, and the biggest question is whether any deal can survive them. The Ayatollah is gone, much of Iran's leadership structure has been shattered, and the IRGC itself appears divided between factions willing to make a deal and hardliners who want to keep fighting. The memorandum of understanding may give us a clearer picture when we finally see it. Until then, the biggest question isn't whether a deal exists. The first time around, you're trying to survive—managing parent emails, organizing equipment, writing 90-minute practice scripts, and trying to prove you belong. You coach with a whistle in your mouth and a joystick in your hand. The second time? The fog of management is gone. You know how the machine operates, which means you can spend your energy on what actually matters: building the human architecture of the program and protecting the culture. Going into "Round Two" means you aren't guessing your way through a philosophy. You are deploying an established blueprint refined by the "Truth Room" of your past mistakes. The biggest hazard for a veteran coach entering a new school is trying to run the exact same playbook that won them a regional title somewhere else. If your last stop featured elite, downhill-attacking guards and you ran a relentless Dribble Drive, but your new roster features physical, back-to-the-basket bigs, trying to force your old tactical system makes you a rigid coach. Your system must serve your players to maximize their Effective Field Goal Percentage ($eFG%$): The Shift: In your first job, you might have modified your players to fit your system. In your second job, you have the tactical maturity to modify your system to fit your players while keeping your Standard of Excellence completely non-negotiable. The first time you were head coach, you likely hired your friends or whoever was available. This time, you understand that your coaching staff is your shield. The Rule: Do not hire an entire staff of "Yes Men." You need assistants who bring different tactical perspectives—maybe a "Modern Flow" architect to balance your structured Princeton Offense or a defensive specialist who understands recovery leverage. The Expectation: Hold your staff to the same Next Play Speed you expect from your players. They must be vocal "Energy Givers" in the gym, echoing your instructions rather than standing on the sideline with their arms crossed. A program is not defined by what the head coach preaches in the pre-season parent meeting; it is defined by what the head coach is willing to tolerate on a rainy Tuesday afternoon in January. Day One Standard: From your very first open gym, establish your non-negotiables: body language, how we treat the managers, how we sprint out of mistakes, and how we talk on defense. The Leadership Shift: Start building a Leadership Council immediately. Your ultimate goal in this second stint should be to move the program from Coach-Fed to Player-Led. When your upperclassmen start policing the locker room before you even walk through the door, you have built a culture that lasts. Coach's Note: "The first time you coach, you think it's about the X's and O's. The second time around, you realize the X's and O's don't mean a thing if the human beings running them don't trust each other. Focus on the relationship capital early, hold the standard fiercely, and let the scoreboard take care of itself." 1.
