What's the connection with a spy thriller from 1985 and the start of this episode of Music In My Shoes? Find out as we reminisce about "The Falcon and the Snowman," its espionage intrigue, and the collaboration between David Bowie and the Pat Metheny Group. Alongside these reflections, there's a heartfelt segment inspired by Butch Walker's social media post, which serves as a poignant reminder about the importance of health after music industry icon Matt Pinfield's stroke. Listeners from across the country share their stories and connections with bands that defined the rock scene and past MIMS episodes, including a nostalgic mention of Ian Slater from APB at the 688 Club. We embrace the vibrant feedback from our audience, like Kathy in Georgia and Del from "Mind The Gap Radio." This episode is as much about sharing personal anecdotes as it is about celebrating music that left an indelible mark on our lives. As we journey through the sounds of John Lennon, Ramones and Squeeze, we reflect on the unique sound creations and the lasting legacies these artists have left behind. The episode concludes with a look back at The Stone Roses and fond memories of the Midtown Music Festival in Atlanta. Join us for a celebration of the tunes that have shaped not just our playlists, but our lives, and continue the journey of musical exploration and reminiscence.Send us a one-way message. We can't answer you back directly, but it could be part of a future Music In My Shoes Mailbag!!!

I went to Roberto Venn School of Luthiery in 1997. Worked at Vince's Backstage music in Lafayette, La. until 2000. I then moved to the Hamptons, which was a mistake for my career. Ended up working other jobs, as well as repair to pay the bills. 2002 Moved to Nashville and ended up working for a company in Franklin that did factory refurbishments and Warranty repairs. I also had my own small shop and did a little touring with small bands. In December 06 I started working for Gruhn and was there till Aug. 2024. Even working for shops I've always had my own shop to do personal customer repairs. At Gruhn, I was a Repairman and Appraiser. I was tasked with going through the Electric instruments to inspect for originality. One of the repairs I did a lot of was Pickup rewinds. I've been rewinding pickups since 1999. Although I got most of my experience at Gruhn. I started building Pickups around 05. I have built and rewound pickups for a lot of folks In Nashville. Mostly players. Issac Brock of Modest Mouse uses my pickups in the Wicks guitars he uses in the studio and on tour. One of the Tele's Jack White uses in the Studio has one of my rewinds in the bridge position.I've worked for Songwriters like Kent Blazy (Garth Brooks, Patti Loveless, Chris Young), and producers like Mickey Jack Cones (Carrie Underwood, George Strait, etc.). I've worked with Jack White doing repairs, customization, and Tour Support since 2010. The cover of one of his 45's features him, one of the guitars I customized, and the Muppets. Through Gruhn I worked on instruments owned by a myriad of stars. I also curate the Private collection of the CEO of Gibson, Cesar Gueikian. We had a great time talking with Juliet Lloyd about her soul-pop-folk sound, Gem and the Holograms, burn out, and the utility of therapy. Juliet Lloyd is an acclaimed singer/songwriter who splits her time between Nashville, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C.  Across her 20-year career as a writer and artist, Juliet has released three albums, garnering placements on television shows on MTV and VH1 and airplay on more than 175 radio stations across the country.  Released on October 25th, Lloyd's new album Carnival is the culmination of years away from the music industry grind, the hours spent writing through some of life's hardest challenges, and the reintroduction of an artist now ripe with wisdom and experience. Recorded in an unhurried process over nearly 15 months and produced by Todd Wright (Lucy Woodward, Butch Walker, Toby Lightman), Carnival's nine songs are a study in contrasts: Light and dark, devastating and self-deprecating, apologetic and angry, conversational and conceptual. They are genre-fluid, weaving elements of pop, folk, soul, and rock to create a vibrant and often unexpected platform for Lloyd's unflinching storytelling.   Check her out here:  Website: julietlloyd.com Facebook: Juliet Lloyd IG: Julietlloydmusic You Tube: Juliet Lloyd

And finally, the guys hit the road to the Machine Shop in Flint for the second year in a row, this time to see if Scott Stevens and The Exies still have it. Spoiler: They do. We had the pleasure of interviewing Amythyst Kiah over Zoom video!GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Amythyst Kiah shares her new album, Still + Bright via Rounder Records. Produced by Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Green Day and Weezer) and recorded at his Nashville studio, the 12-track album is a vital new addition to Kiah's body of work, one largely dedicated to exploring the struggle and joy of true self-discovery. While her 2021 Wary + Strange details her grief, anger, and abandonment, Still + Bright is her liberation from the events of her earlier life, examining the vast expanse of her inner world, passions, self-exploration and realization, with a darkly cinematic twist. The project – which Rolling Stone hailed is “poised to be a major moment for the east Tennessee-raised singer-songwriter” – expands upon the wild definitions of Americana music. From gothic love songs with haunting vocals (“Silk and Petals feat. Butch Walker”) to a furiously stomping fantasy-inspired folk epic (“I Will Not Go Down” feat.Billy Strings"), or an ode to meditation laced with lush mandolin lines and lovely fiddle melodies (“S P A C E”), the album affirms her as an artist of both daring originality and uncompromising depth. The album is a collision of her love of indie rock, garage guitars and symphonic metal, flawlessly melded with the visceral lyricism and songwriting she's renowned for in the roots community. The project – which features collaborations with S.G. Goodman, Billy Strings and Avi Kaplan (Pentatonix) – also marks a complete transformation in Kiah's songwriting process: her first time opening up her approach and working with co-writers on an album. The album features co-writes with punk legend Tim Armstrong, Sadler Vaden (guitarist/vocalist for Jason Isbell's 400 Unit) and Sean McConnell (Brittney Spencer, Bethany Cosentino).Kiah is currently on the road on her Still + Bright Tour, plus she recently was announced as direct support for select dates of Larkin Poe's The Bloom Tour.About Amythyst Kiah:With an unforgettable voice that's both unfettered and exquisitely controlled, the Tennessee-bred singer/songwriter is a “fantastic fingerpicker, dynamo singer and profound songwriter [who] defies all sorts of stereotypes” (Guitar Player). Her 2021 release of Wary + Strange earned glowing features and reviews from The New York Times, NPR Morning Edition, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone, plus performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and CBS Saturday Morning. Kiah is also a member of Our Native Daughters—an all-women-of-color supergroup whose standout track “Black Myself” (written by Kiah) earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best American Roots Song. She recently joined Iron & Wine on their summer tour, and has shared stages with The Who, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, CAM and more.  We want to hear from you! The Talk of Fame Podcast got to talk with  Eric Paquette! “21 Ways My Life Is Great” out April 19th 2024, is the second single from YOUTHYEAR - the moniker of Eric Paquette, a Nashville based artist, songwriter, and producer. YOUTHYEAR has collaborated with alt giants Lit, Dashboard Confessional, Letdown, and Michigander along with Butch Walker, Desmond Child, Colin Brittain, members of No Doubt and more. YOUTHYEAR's debut single “Basement” was the first step outside of the writer/producer chair and into the artist spotlight.  YOUTHYEAR & rock legend Carlo Colasacco (Shinedown, Sueco) co-wrote and co-produced the song which features a music video that tips its hat to Nirvana's “In Bloom'' and Weezer's “Buddy Holly'' videos and their satirical portrayal of the late ‘50s early ‘60s. Sonically the song also draws influence from both bands and the more melodic side of grunge and pop-rock of the ‘90s. Upbeat and all-things-alt-rock, it's bursting with bright melodies that sit next to melodic powerhouse classics like The All American Rejects and new acts like The Band Camino. Late ‘90s icon Ajay Popoff of the band Lit (My Own Worst Enemy) joined in on group vocals as well as makes a feature in the music video, co-directed by Nick Stafford (All Time Low, Charlotte Sands, Boys Like Girls) and YOUTHYEAR who also co-styled the video.  Lyrically “21 Ways My Life Is Great” is a “so glad it's finally over” breakup song that captures the explosive joy of finally being free of a toxic relationship.``Guess my mom was right ‘about your type” is just one of the playful ways'' Eric is grateful to be onto better things. Bottom line, there are no regrets over the breakup in this song. We had the pleasure of interviewing Patrick Droney over Zoom video!Patrick Droney grew up in the era of dedication lines and VHS tapes. He survives on sentimentality. It hits him every time he hears Delilah on the radio or passes by the Blockbuster sign near the bodega on his corner. The Brooklyn and Nashville based artist/producer/guitar sensation returns with his sophomore album, SUBTITLES FOR FEELINGS, which explores the idea that each frame of life holds a deeper context—a subtitle meant to be translated in time.Written and co-produced by Patrick Droney with collaborators including Foy Vance, Butch Walker, Jon Green, and Lori McKenna, the songs are a deepening of his timeless, cinematic pop sound. Rewind to May 2021, when Droney released his debut album, STATE OF THE HEART. With streams now in the hundreds of millions, the project was his own coming of age film, offering striking snapshots of the human condition in songs like “Glitter” and “The Wire.”Since then, he has toured extensively, selling out shows across the U.S. and making his U.K. debut with the Eagles at London's Hyde Park. He performed at Super Bowl LVII, claims alumni status at Late Night With Seth Meyers, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and has shared stages with Sheryl Crow, The Vamps, and more. He also released genre-bending collaborations with Kygo (“Say You Will”) and Billy F. Gibbons (“Rough Boy”).We want to hear from you! This week is our 21st installment of an ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. We bring you an in-depth exploration of another band that fits into our category of being an “in-betweener”: the amazingly awesome SAIGON KICK! This band straddled the world of the 80s hard n' heavy and the 90s alternative n' grunge. Like their touring buddies Extreme, they got a major hit with a ballad in the early 90s and got pigeonholed as a ballad band when they weren't that at all. We think this band should have been alongside Alice In Chains and STP… They Shoulda Been Huge!!! This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that we have featured on the show before and exist in a category that we discussed at length back in Episode 133 – The Inbetweeners. They're from Robert's home state of Florida, but will our Florida-Man agree with Kevin's assessment and status of “Shoulda Been Huge”??? Have a listen and find out for yourself. Songs this week include:Saigon Kick – “Coming Home” from Saigon Kick (1991)Saigon Kick – “Hostile Youth” from The Lizard (1992)Saigon Kick – “On And On” from Water (1993)Saigon Kick – “Eden” from Devil In The Details (1995)Saigon Kick - “Dizzy's Vine” from Moments From The Fringe (1997)Saigon Kick – “Solitary Jerk” from Bastards (1999)Super Transatlantic – “Shuttlecock” from Shuttlecock (2000)Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

When you produce acts like Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Weezer, Green Day, Pink, Rayland Baxter, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr., it's hard to find time for your own music. Yet in 2022, Butch Walker managed to release his 10th album, Butch Walker as … Glenn—a surprising tribute to the '70s piano-rock balladeers that were among the rulers of FM radio in his youth. Nonetheless, that didn't stop him from bringing a fleet of cool Fender and Gibson guitars, and a hemi of an amp, a Two-Rock Bloomfield Drive, on his recent It's About Damn Tour tour. For Walker, playing those guitars is something of a comeback celebration. In 2007, the house he was renting in Malibu from Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers caught fire and the Rome, Georgia, native lost the collection of classic axes he'd spent a lifetime accumulating, as well as the masters to every song of his own that he'd recorded. As Walker explains in the Rundown, it was a hard lesson about keeping up with insurance and making sure all his valuable instruments are covered—which they weren't.Today, he splits time in Nashville, where he's also built a new version of his RubyRed studio in the old Warner Music building, from the 1950s. As Walker said in a Facebook post. “There's been countless hits and amazing country and rock 'n' roll songs recorded here over the years. It smells a little funny. It's maybe haunted (hell, it was a morgue at one time). But I love it. It's got vibe for days, sounds incredible, and people dig working here.”So, dig into Walker's Rig Rundown, which we filmed in November at Nashville's Brooklyn Bowl.Brought to you by D'Addario XS Strings.

In this episode, Ted Stryker welcomes Paris Jackson to the Tuna on Toast Studio. Paris just released a new song called "Lighthouse". Paris recorded the song in December of 2021 with Butch Walker producing and Mike McCready from Pearl Jam on guitar. Paris and Butch had been talking about working with eachother for years, it finally came to fruition on "lighthouse" as well has future songs yet to be released. Paris released a solo album in 2020 titled Wilted which was produced by Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra. Paris talks about how great that experience was and what a good human Andy is. When discussing her music, she says at the end of the day, all her songs are folk. Paris tells Stryker she started playing guitar at 13 but doesn't consider herself to be a guitar player.   Paris Jackson talks about how singing "Surrender" with the band Cheap Trick and playing a set with her own band at Boston Calling was one of the best days of her life.   Paris also tells Stryker about playing with The Struts and botching their lyrics but still having a blast.     Stryker and Paris chat about being so under the microscope and not having a chance to stumble without it being super magnified.  Stryker asks Paris about music execs that try to get her to perform more under the pop umbrella than a rock or folk style.  Paris tells Stryker about the music she grew up listening to from Motley Crue to Simon and Garfunkle and Snoop and Dre. Stryker asks Paris what is success to her when it comes to her music career. Paris tells Stryker how the band Radiohead and their music helped her through some very dark times.  Paris mentions that she'd love to work with Conor Oberst, Cage the Elephant, Dave Grohl and Margot & the Nuclear So and So's. Paris tells Stryker she doesn't watch too much TV and really loves gore and to be scared! Paris said the only person that can really scare her is her brother Prince Jackson. She also talks about how lucky she is to have such great brothers.  Paris tells Stryker how she's had a few songs written about her that were not good songs.  It was such a wonderful afternoon chatting with Paris Jackson, she is smart, talented and very nice!  Thanks for watching another episode of Tuna on Toast with Stryker.
