In this opening message, we’ll explore the surprising power of language, why your words matter more than you think, and how the Bible, science, and real-life wisdom all agree: change your words, and you really can change your life.
In this episode, Pastor Dom teaches on real faithHebrews 11:1-31 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.James 2:2020 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? James 1:5-85 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.James 3:4-54 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.Psalm 141:33 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.Proverbs 18:2121 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,…Mark 11:22-2322 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.Luke 6:4545 For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Such A Little Thing
"Life and death are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21). Jesus said that with our tongues we either bring forth good or evil things in our lives (Matthew 12:34-37). The course of our life and our spiritual growth is greatly determined by our use of our tongue. James 1:22-25 tells that we must not just be hearers, but also doers of the word and that we will be blessed in our doing (obedience). Then he highlighted the control of our tongue as being of first importance in doing God's word (v26), and later he devotes James 3 to explaining and illustrating the power of the tongue and the importance of us controlling it, so that we only speak the good and not the evil. Derek expounds James 3 explaining the wonderful examples given by James, including horses, ships, fires, wild beasts and springs.

Our words matter to God. Words can lift up or tear down. They can unite or divide. They can make us laugh or make us cry. Words stick with us and cannot be taken back. They leave a lasting imprint. Our tongues reveal our human sinfulness and brokenness. It is like a barometer for our inner world, our character, and our spiritual formation. At the root of any tongue problem is a heart problem. We must pursue a wise lipstyle by training our tongues, being attentive to our words, and being reflective in what we say. Are we using words that are edifying, necessary, and grace-filled? Our words matter and need to be guided by grace in a broken world.21.10.17

This week Dr. Michael Breece did a great job of teaching us the power of our words! Teaching from Proverbs 18:21, he helped us understand that we can train ourselves to use our words for the benefit of others. And while teaching us how powerful our words can be, he reminded us of how damaging they can be as well.
In this episode, I chat with my mom-in-law Stephanie Stevens http://stephaniestevensspeaks.com/ about how our words shape our worlds. We talk about how we actually have the power to create a positive or negative environment starting with the thoughts we think which ultimately leads to the words we say. This is one episode that you will need to listen to more than once!

The Bible has a lot to say about life and death. In this first of three talks, we will unpack Proverbs 18:21, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit."
Our text talks about righteousness. If we read closely, we see that righteousness is expressed with our mouth. God spoke the world into existence and then spoke to divide day from night. We are made in God’s image, so what we speak begins to define our life. When we speak negatively, we will see negatively in our life. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. The words we speak have power. We make the mistake of worrying about the questions in life but God already has the answer to those questions. That is why we need to pray “not my will, but YOUR will be done.” On the shore of the Red Sea, Moses was already singing about victory as the Egyptian army was closing in on them, and the children of Israel were asking why they had been brought out there to die. Moses didn’t listen to the negative talk, but was speaking to the victory that was on the way. There is nothing too hard for God to do. We have to speak it into existence. What does your mouth say?
